Ultimate Community Project 2014

I would like to be part of a challenge of sorts.

A full on community multiple person build, each putting in what we know.

We first pick a theme, or themes (depends on build).
First person, starts the build and passes it on to the next builder and so on. if somebody has ideas they just post ideas and goes next. Or something like that, If anybody has any suggestions.

Taking part in... doesnt mean you'll actually have to build. Giving ideas on what to build is a big part of creating this.

*Idea: An actual pinball machine, with balls and flippers. with a wicked 8 player connection (once jackpot/goal is lit any balls shot in "hole/ramp" will give all other players multiball... the more shots in jackpot the more balls added. 8 players battling for high score.

If not, I think that would be awsome.

Yes to the 1st question and yes to the 2nd one.
1. Try my level 'Pinball Wizsack', there is room on the thermo for some tinkering if you wanted to use the table as a base and I think the pinball itself works well.
2. My level 'Murder Mystery Movie' is an entire mini-movie approx 5 minutes long. It was designed as a reward for completing my 'Murder Mystery' level.

........but I'm up for building anything!

Another Idea: recreates, how about go old school and recreate one of the classics? pac-man, astroid, donkeykong.
Or even a ninja turtles game...

Pac Man seems easily doable, score bubbles within a maze? Custom kart PacMan, other players as the 'ghosts' chasing them down, slight speed advantage to PacMan possibly?2014-09-28 13:08:00

If you attach a "danger tweaker" to your kart, it kills you immediately. It would have to be a self weaponizer activated by eating one of the powerpellets (like the rocket or glove, but turn off track following). Does anyone know how to make it automatically use a weapon for you? I've not attempted it. An emitter on the kart with the self weapon? Does that change you? Or disable the shoot button, and have the trigger tie directly into the weapon fire trigger of the kartinator would be better. The reverse would need to be true for the ghosts, they would need to be deadly until triggered.

Hmm....it might be better that the pacman kart is 'tagged' so passing over the power pellet triggers the changes to the ghosts mode, rather than getting involved with weaponisation? The ghosts themselves also 'tagged'. If the two tags then come into contact during power pellet 'phase' ghost is destroyed. Not sure whether that's more simple or not?

Would also suggest this is built on an arena style base, not track to enable full use of the maze aspect.

Another thought being that 'doors' to additional sections of the maze open, or all the walls drop away to reveal these new areas once a certain score is reached?

Yes, it sounds like we all have some ideas how it should go. maze, top view, doors, baddies (ghosts), I like the idea of 'unlocking' new areas keeping it blacked-out until 'goal' is reached.
If we use the 'fruit' instead of being 'extra points'. Have it so, that you have to collect them to 'keep away the ultimate ghost' (a ghost that is full screen that comes in from a side and covers alot of the playfield (maze) killing pac-man if he touches him.
I was thinking this 'ultimate ghost' would have to be above the maze (playing top-view) with 'tags' that will tell if pacman is under.
If we used a kart resizer on the spawn point, we could decrease the size of the kart which will increase the size of the level we can build. If we keep the level looking clean and simple we could increase the logic within it for 'doors', 'powerpellets'...

Keep throwing ideas out.

I'm not sure about the 'top down' view, too close to the original in my opinion and besides.....we have LBPK.....and that means 3D!!

I do like the 'ultimate' ghost, boss type enemy idea though and we already know a creator who's a boss logic master!

If you make Ultima-ghost into a boss type encounter, I think it'd be best to have it more of a puzzle encounter. Since Pac-man doesn't exactly have weapons, you would have to use environmental switches and events to make it vulnerable/take damage (trap it, make it run into something specific, enact a series of conditions/switches to make it vulnerable to eat/ shrink it so it can be eaten).

My original thought with a pac-man themed level is to have a 4 player PVP/arena maze level, 3v1. 3 ghosts vs 1 pac-man, played like the original game, where the ghosts chase pac-man, while pac-man searches for the berries, then when pac-man gets berries, he gets a limited time of attacking instead of running/evading (maybe blinking light or change color or something to indicate he's powered up).

I was thinking if it wasn't top-view like the original. What view would it be? If it's fps then you lose the ability to see "pac-man" (as player 1), if its a behind view, you lose the view of 'eating pellets' (also player 1).
A top tilted view might work for the 3D effect.

Continuing the 'view' question. How about the abilty to switch between the two views? Top down if you want, 3d if you want, best of both worlds and simple enough to do with game cameras.

I've noticed that 'moving' objects dont cast a shadow on the ground, that might have an impact on the 'super ghost' appearing (from the first-person view).
Maybe having it rain 'baddies' under the 'super ghost' would solve the shadow problem.
