How to not give up on a level.
Archive: 8 posts
I've been playing LBP since 2008 and out of all those years I post only 2 levels which took not even 20 minutes to make, plus there onold accounts. What I'm trying to say is I can never finish building a level. I always just give up because I run out of ideas for something and justs top playing LBP. This is probably a hard question to ask but, how do you keep working on a level and not get bored of making it or giving up. | 2014-09-21 17:07:00 Author: Alfrottos Posts: 42 |

Try to build something with friends, so, never you'll get bored. https://lbp.me/v/qt-gt3r I created this level with my friend, helping each other, interacting with him. | 2014-09-22 17:59:00 Author: spiderdian-home Posts: 2 |
I feel the same way. I only have 2 levels published and 2 back-ups of levels. I'm always working on levels but become bored very easily with the level. But I found a level I feel passionate about. I thought of something that I want, and I want to play. I spent a while thinking of the level and through some search, I found it hasn't been done before. I feel pure dedication to pump out this level. In the past 8 days I've invested about 60 hours into the logic alone. And I have to admit, I'm getting a little bored because the entire system I worked on now needs to be re-worked to function with the levels optimization. The new system that I have to build is much more effective and fixes many problems and allows me to implement a new feature that I was unable to figure out in the way the original system worked. Summary: Make what you want to play. Don't spend too much time in each session. Try playing with friends but pay attention to the level. Its also a matter of how much you like the game and how much you like to create, whether it be with or without people. | 2014-09-23 00:02:00 Author: SEWO97 Posts: 637 |
Ah, one of the most common problems for every creator out there. Trust me, you're not the only one feeling this way. I myself have a reason that I'm not ashamed of to talk about, and that's laziness. When it comes to finishing levels I just don't have the motivation or the will to do so. Most of my projects just lies somewhere in my moon half-finished. But I've learned a couple of things to fight my laziness so if you want help, listen. First off, when you have an awesome idea, never hesitate! Build it as soon as you can before someone else steals it. I have had many ideas before but I was too lazy to even start so I just waited until someone else came up with a similar idea, and sometimes they ended up getting a lot of attention for making something new and original. Find out how you want a level to be like and just improvise step by step on your moon, take some hours everyday until you have a solid foundation. If you're bored of creating on the level, take a break and play some other games. When you feel the urge for LBP again, head into the moon and continue on your project. You might even have new ideas to add. When you're out of ideas, go and play some community levels, you will most likely be able to get some inspiration from them! If you have friends, ask them to test your level with you! They will often give you suggestions and motivation! If all this fails there's always the force-yourself-to-build-until-you-think-it's-fun. I have used it a lot in contests, I just forced myself to start LBP and finish my level. But if you're doing this, take your time and build the level in sessions. Breaks are an important factor. Trust me, many of these things didn't even work in the long-term for me and the reason why is myself. That's why I stick to making fast, easy and fun mini-games/survivals. Find your thing, get good at it and have fun! Good luck! | 2014-09-23 19:19:00 Author: blacksackman Posts: 234 |
I've found that entering contests gives me some extra motivation to enter a contest, even if it is only for a pin. It's easier to stay focused if you have a deadline and a clear idea of what you're making from the start. Although that usually only happens for me when it's a contest that interests me. I feel like contests have made it easier for me to focus in general while creating, and I can make things a lot faster now than I used to be able to. | 2014-09-23 21:42:00 Author: KlawwTheClown Posts: 1106 |

Pretty much all of these. It helps to have active friends who play the game; it really inspires you to play and beat them at level building. | 2014-09-24 03:26:00 Author: Undarivik Posts: 442 |
