Promote creating an account!

Archive: 11 posts

I have realized this, and it is a VERY odd thing:now a days, there are around 290 guests, and only 20-25 members on! Please, forum admins, promote creating accounts! More people, more love! (And maybe more hate but you never know...) still, just create a banner or whatever that says something like "Sign up,it's free!" And list all the benefits you get from signing up.2014-09-18 01:43:00

I would hazard to guess that upwards to half of those "guests" are actual members who do not wish to sign in at that time but just lurk to see what discussions are going on. I do that sometimes. The other half are probably spambots.2014-09-18 02:31:00

..or all looking for the Boo button?

During a three month period when our Human Confirmation was shut off by our last admin, we had literally hundreds of bots a day join us.

..not a bad suggestion though. We probably should have something somewhere that talks about all the cool stuff, but I would think most could figure it out on their own after some time.

Hmm.. Saying that signing up is free really won't promote more guests/afkers who are just browsing random LBP forums, because there are people who doesn't understand what it means, for example if there are any German browsers (no nationalism included, just implying that there are very many German browsers who are maybe underaged whom can't speak or read English clearly.)

However what would work is, perhaps, that on some posts you can put a requirement to be signed in to an account. Might sound stupid, but it actually works. Pretty accurately, too!

That may get them to sign up, but they wouldn't particularly want to sign up. They'd just sign up to get past an annoying restriction, if they don't jsut go somewhere else.

The only real way to promote creating an account is just to make this place seem like a very good place to sign up. If they see an active and friendly community, then they'd sign up if that's what they're looking for. If they don't want to be a part, I see no point in forcing them.

Some people might come here once or twice just to look at news or help with a glitch for example. I visit the EA forums bout 3, 4 times a year to look for help, but I haven't signed up to it. I'm sure some visitors may be like that.2014-09-20 20:37:00
