AWESOMANS REVEWS: The Bearer Part 2: The Ring by Takelow

Archive: 2 posts

Lord of the Rings. The last movie came out, what, 5 years ago? It's sad, those movies were fantastic, but all good things must come to an end or turn into a pile of crap, as seen by the Star Wars franchise. However, if you are missing your friends Aragorn and Legolas and Frodo and all those guys, you still have some hope! LOTR: Conquest just came out a month ago and The Bearer series by Takelow are on LBP, and they are some of the greatest levels of all time.

The first thing I have to say about this series of levels is that the first level is unnecessary. I skipped it after I got to the part about the Dwarves, but it's worth a play due to the awesome intro alone. I mean, those books are killer. The Bearer series is pretty much a huge summary of the LOTR summary from what I played (which has only been part 2 due to the fact that so many GOOD levels are finally on LBP) and it's pretty accurate. Except Sam is a kitty.

From beginning to end, the level looks amazing. I found myself using "one of the" and "some of the" a lot in my reviews, but this is THE best looking level I have ever seen on LittleBigPlanet. A lot of times I will say that levels are MM quality, but they usually aren't. They're up there, but they aren't MM quality. Well these levels are MM quality. In fact, they might just be better.

Takelow's attention to detail is visible at the very beginning. As soon as he drops you into the shire the level seduces your eyes. I really can't explain it here. Just the best looking level you'll see on LBP. Better than LittleBig Dead Space. The parts where you go into the houses are soo good. Everything just looks great.

Not only that but the game is fun. Running over the little houses in the ground, riding in Gandalf's carriage-thing, Jumping around the houses like in LittleBigHome, it's all so good. This level, besides Tree Fortress 2, is my favorite level ever. And little touches like the ring hanging over the fire place add so much to the experience.

Oh, and Gandalf is the best. Probably the best looking custom made character ever. He actually looks like Gandalf and not like a circle with a triangle on it. Like seriously, it's the best looking Gandalf ever. Gandalf better be a winnable prize Takelow or I'm rewriting this review calling your levels the worst I've ever played and that they don't even deserve to be on LBP.

So if you're one of those lazy jerks here who don't have the patience to read the whole thing, this is the second best level I've ever played. Go play it now or you'll life will be forever empty.

Hi Awesomemans

Thank you a lot for the great review and your kind words. I appreciate a lot.

I not agree with you concerning the first level. How can you say it is unecessary without playing it until the end? After the dwarves, there is the Elven's section then the Mordor. And the last part of the level is a kind of "tutorial" for the following levels.
Actually, the first level was critical for me. I could test the environments you will find later in the levels. When i see the rating, i think people love this first part a lot

For this second level, i am very glad and happy you loved it so much. I tried to do a correct representation of the LOTR environments, firstly with the Shire, Bilbo's house... And..heu...SAm is not Kitty... Hobbits are reresented by sackboys in the levels (since you play Frodo), so, Sam, Meryl and Pippin are Sackboys too
I hope you will also take a look to the Part III, because i think you could love it too

Thank you again for the kind words and the good reviews
