Rumor: LBP Karting coming to PS Vita

Archive: 21 posts

Saw this on PSLS and figured it was news-worthy, considering a lot of LBP rumors lately turn out to be true.

And here's the original story:

http://www.vitaboys.net/2014/09/little-big-planet-karting-might-be.html?m=1

What do you guys think? Is Sony porting Karting to the Vita? I think it'd be a smart and easy move to fill in Vita's lack of AAA games. If it were to happen though, it'll for sure be a port. I can't see Sony hiring another studio to make a new Karting game from scratch with a different story/levels.

Hopefully we'll get an official response soon.

Considering there's almost 0 demand for LBPK... I'd think even a port if 1 is even possible would be almost a waste of time and company money. Also considering the fact the PS-Vita itself isn't very popular... which again makes 1 wonder why this would be a good idea. Meh.2014-09-12 19:48:00

Yeah, wouldn't make much sense huh. Even being free on Plus for a year, Karting's online remained a ghost town and the popularity didn't pick up. Still, I'd take another LBP game on Vita even if it's not the LBPV2 everyone's been wanting.

I was looking through old episodes of lbp-podcast some days ago and there was a similar rumor back in 2012:

Karting was dead on arrival. A port would just be kicking the corpse.
If they're going to put Karting on the Vita, it should be a completely new iteration with new tools, etc. If the rumor is in fact true, UFG better not touch this one.

Don't mind me, just playing a chock load of karting spotlight potentials right now.

Yeah, I remember that leaked poster in 2012 saying it's coming soon to the Vita. Crazy it's been over 2 years since then...

I'll agree I wasn't a huge fan of UFG's offering either, surprising considering I loved Modnation Racers back in the day. Everything felt a bit uninspired, like the studio was just 'doing their job' with the exception of a passionate few. We've seen with our own eyes that a non-Mm studio CAN tackle on LBP (Tarsier/Double Eleven), but all the right things have to come together for that to happen. So I'm hoping if this game does come out (and isn't a direct port) they'll make several notable improvements.

Haha, I'm glad at least some folks do enjoy this game. It's far from being terrible but I think fans expectations were set high after LBP1/2/V. I do hope for a sequel on PS4 some day.

I had the same thoughts. The PS3 is still a very popular system, but LBPKarting didn't really hit that market very well. No reason to bring it to another smaller platform. I think they just want to bring Karting to a more mobile console (pun not intended) so we can play it anywhere.

People will buy the game for sure, though.

Little Big Karting was redundant. I mean, why waste time creating a full fledged karting game when you could just make a funner, simpler, top down racer in lbp2?Its not like ModNation Racers did well.In fact, why not just buy Roadtrip? Its free for +Members...2014-09-13 20:03:00

Haven't noticed anyone clamouring for full 3D in LBP3 lately? LBPK has it. It's not redundant, it's just unfinished.2014-09-13 23:50:00

LBP3 technically is 3D with the free-roam layer logic, although it's limited to 16 layers. Can we make a Mario 64 clone? Probably not, but a Mario 3D World clone is very achievable with the new tools.2014-09-14 02:23:00

Technically LBP1 was already 3D. My point was that there's obviously still demand for "3D", so LBPK was never redundant.2014-09-14 10:48:00

LittleBigPlanet Karting was more than just Modnation Racers with Sackboy's face slapped onto it. The addition of logic and LBP-esque resources was a real game changer. Also regular LBP doesn't have resources specifically for making a kart racer. Sure you can make a top-down thing, but it isn't the same.

I think the reason why not many people are clamoring for a full 3D LBP anymore is because they've either accepted the fact that it's never going to happen, or they're hopeful that LBP3's tools will be enough.

Fun? How is playing with potentially major LAG in ModNation Racers: Road Trip fun? Not to mention how broken it is, plus I don't even have enough space on my PS Vita Memory Card!2014-09-17 02:21:00

Maybe you don't mind it, but the karts are really heavy. And the loading times are just as bad as the PS3 version.

Also where did you get 1/3 a gigabyte from? It is 1.5GB. Sonic & Allstars Racing Transformed is a much better racer and takes up slightly less space.

That's a terrible excuse. Have you never played Mario Kart, Diddy Kong Racing, or CTR? Heavy karts are slow. And if all the karts are heavy, it slows down the entire race.

either this or nothing folks...

What are you talking about? There are plenty of other racing games on the Vita.

I could see them putting out a quick port just to maintain the illusion that they're still giving the Vita support.2014-09-23 13:00:00
