Arcade Survival Challenge Album, by Hexagohn

I took some time over the past month and I made 3 different survival challenges, some with multiple difficulties. I love old arcade games and each of these have that similar theme. They are each games I think would make cool arcade games. They are made to be fun, they are made to be difficult, and they are made to be competitive. I hope you will have fun playing them and battling for the high score. I now list Hard and Easy scores. There is now a video for each level. They are quite handy if you want to know what each one is like. The video for Dodgitron has some handy tips for those of you who want that competitive edge. They are all multi-player compatible and they are actually quite fun with multiple players. The #1 spot here will be updated each week or by request. I am willing to leave feedback for 5 people via F4F. 1. I added detail to the Dodgitron and a added some hints. These details do not exist in hard mode and will not. Hard mode is so difficult I dont want any chance of lag. 2. I added minor visual detail to Bomb Voyage and made points during play much more frequent and significant. 3. I added detail to the ship in Asteroid Attack Easy, this detail will be added to the hard mode in time. Thanks for the feedback and everything guys! Here they are!: Dodgitron (Easy & Hard) Current #1: Easy oooDorienooo 330,499; Hard xThaVIOLENToNeX 15,326 Video: YouTube - Dodgitron, Little Big Planet survival challenge level. Grab stationary blocks to move yourself around a square room and avoid death by kill screens that slide across the stage. Use the light warnings to your advantage, collect points while playing and collect bonus points at the end. This one is the most difficult but is also the most competitive. It has very deep single player competitive game play. Its polished enough that you should have fun trying for first place. Asteroid Attack (Easy & Hard) Current #1: Easy PixelledFox 2,432; Hard PixelledFox 1,750 Video: YouTube - Asteroid Attack, LBP Survival Challenge level. Like a combination of Asteroids and Missile defender. You wield the paintinator as the ships stationary defenses and knock asteroids off course as you try to navigate the deadly asteroid field. This one is really fun with multiple players. Bomb Voyage Current #1ixelledFox 48,443 Video: YouTube - Bomb Voyage, LBP survival challenge level. Uh oh, it seems you have accidentally stuffed this dangerous cave with explosives! To make matter worse you forgot you still had an impact explosive! Prevent the impact explosive from exploding for as long as possible or the whole cave will go up in a giant ball of flame! Collect points while playing and also at the end. To play multi-player on this one you all have to hold the same bomb. The reason for this is explained in the level. | 2009-02-22 23:04:00 Author: Hexagohn Posts: 335 |
Well I just played your Survival Challenges, and must say they are great! Heres my feedback: Asteroid Attack: The Pros: +Everything looked great! The sun was magnificent, and definitely my favorite aspect of that level. +The gameplay was great, and original (For LBP). +I liked how you shot through the small gap in the ship, and you couldn't see you character, so it felt like you where not shooting, but the ship was. The Cons: -It got pretty intense, really fast. After a while, there where so many asteroids that they bumped into each other, and went much faster toward my ship -I didn't get too far, but does your ship keep going round? Because I'm guessing it actually ends, which you don't want a Survival Challenge to do, really. 5 stars, and hearted! Dodgitron The Pros: +I kept getting owned until I noticed the use of that green circle. Once I knew about that I used all my skill, and it was extremely fun! +Gameplay was awesome! I loved grabbing the platforms and zooming around. +The whole area looked great! But it could use a bit more detail! +It probably has no end, and so it's a fully working Survival Challenge! The Cons: -Tell people about that green ball, it could save their life. -Add more detail, to spice it up, cause I know that doesn't take up the whole thermo. 5 stars, and hearted Bomb Voyage The Pros: +The whole place looked like a very well made cave! Very nice! +Original gameplay was original! I loved how the dust came down before the whateveryoucallthems came down. +It was fun too play, and got kinda creepy later on. +Its a non-ending (Unless you die.) Survival Challenge which is very good! The Cons: -The point collection was very slow. I barely ever got any points, and if any actually came into the cave, I wouldn't see them, because they where on the the other side of the cave. 4 stars and no heart Overall every level was absolutely great! My favorite (after learning the secret.) was Dodgitron! I have been waiting for a feedback thing I could do because I badly need feedback on my Survival Challenge: Bouncing Balls. You can get the link in my sig. Thank you very much for the (hopefully) feedback, and the awesome challenges! | 2009-02-22 23:57:00 Author: Kog Posts: 2358 |
Thanks a lot for testing them and everything. 2/3 5 stars and hearted isnt bad at all. I made 3 different ones because I figured most people would at least like one of them. BTW none of them end, I thought to be a survival challenge that was part of the criteria. I will certainly check out your Bouncing Balls challenge, tonight in fact. Oh, and in the Bomb Voyage one most the points are collected at the end the main objective being to survive for as long as possible. I believe the high score in Bomb Voyage is higher than the other two. I do agree the point dispenser during the game could use some work though, my problem is they tend to get smashed and get in the way of the bomb and things like that and it is rather annoying, so I made them comparatively insignificant. | 2009-02-24 00:09:00 Author: Hexagohn Posts: 335 |
Lol, most of the time when I find a great Survival Challenge (Which only happens to be mine, and your Dodgitron at the moment...) I get addicted to them, and am always trying to get that highscore. Well, I was just playing it and it seemed I was doing OK, and I thought I might get second place again, 'beacuse I'll never beat the score of 11,000'. Well I proved myself wrong. That round my overall score, after I was hit with the AVALANCHE of point bubbles, was... 74,603!!! You might want to update that highscore thingy! | 2009-02-24 00:24:00 Author: Kog Posts: 2358 |
Wow, I just went and confirmed the high score. CogSpartan or Cog around here has a very high score of 74,603. That gives him first place, good job. Good luck to those who want to beat his score! | 2009-02-24 12:54:00 Author: Hexagohn Posts: 335 |
These look great. I'll have a go on these tonight if I can. | 2009-02-24 12:57:00 Author: wexfordian Posts: 1904 |
These look great. I'll have a go on these tonight if I can. Thanks, be sure to go for #1 and post back with your thoughts. | 2009-02-25 12:17:00 Author: Hexagohn Posts: 335 |
Thanks, be sure to go for #1 and post back with your thoughts. Well third in Bomb Voyage is the best I could do PixelledFox has a craxy high score! OK I'll start with my favourite..... Bomb Voyage I absolutely loved this level. It's just so solid. This actually looks and plays like a MM survival challange! The lighting is great the style is cohesive and the gameplay is simple and very addictive! **** you man! I'm up against some stiff competition in the "survive this" competition I really can't suggest how you can improve this as it just seems like such a tight package already. Asteroid Attack This level also rocked (pun intended) Again solid, easy to pick up and play gameplay. I like the style of it with the background looking great. It can get pretty hectic when there are multiple asteroids coming at you which is exactly what you want in a survival challenge. Suggestions: I think the look of the spaceship could be a little more detailed. For all the work you put into this I think it could really polish the level by just tweaking the look of the ship a little. Dodgitron I can't really say a whole lot as I didn't play this as much as the others. One thing I can say is its hard (and I was playing the easy version) I think though if I had invested more time in it, it seems like this level could be very addictive. Theres a lot more going on in this. Thanks for giving us 3 great levels to play! If you fancy a shot at some pinball try my levels pinball wizard 1 & 2. I'd love to know what you think. I've entered it in the "survive this" challenge also so for now were enemies! | 2009-02-25 12:45:00 Author: wexfordian Posts: 1904 |
Great work on all three of these, here are some thoughts: Dodgitron: I really admired the originality and complexity on this one. The concept is fresh and the gameplay was different from any other mini-game I have played. The idea of putting that green ball in the middle as a life-line was really clever. Sound effects worked well as did the materials. Nice work, hearted. Asteroid attack: This was probably my favorite of the three. It has a very old-school feeling to it which really resonated with me. Great implementation of the paintinator to create another original challenge. I liked the eye candy you had in this one, your planets look great and the use of gas added a nice element to them. My one complaint is that my trigger finger got sore after awhile lol. Hearted. Bomb Voyage: First of all great name lol. Once again, this is really original. I liked the emitted dirt particles as a visual warning. The moving floor was a nice touch too. My complaint is that I only saw one point bubble but maybe it's because I died too quickly. I might also suggest sprucing things up a bit visually, perhaps decorating the bombs with custom stickers would look cool. Overall another great survival challenge, hearted. Really great work man. I hope after creating all these you will now take the time to give us the eagerly anticipated sequel to Heart of Gold | 2009-02-25 14:15:00 Author: OCK Posts: 1536 |
Hey guys, thanks for checking them out. Thanks for the suggestions, making the ship look better and decorating bombs are both great ideas. I tried to spruce up the look in Bomb Voyage with the cave dirt colors and everything but it never really worked out how I wanted. As for the name I was originally going to use Bombs Away but some one here beat me to it lol, it worked out well though. BTW I added a new look to Dodgitron (I dont meant the joke either) it looks a lot better now. I agree the Dodgitron is difficult, at first at least. Honestly to really get it you have to play it a few times. Here are a few tips though: Learn the movement of the blocks so you know good escape routes, return to a position with many escape routes after each kill slide returns and use the green ball because it is your friend. Also, if you are going for the high score the points during gameplay can be very important, each cluster gives you like 250 points. | 2009-02-25 15:49:00 Author: Hexagohn Posts: 335 |
Just thought I'd drop by and say that I am now #1 on the dodgitron (easy) with a massive score of 330,000 ( #2=74,000 - #3=11,000 so I owned it lol) I'm also #3 on asteriod attack and #6 on bomb voyage so I'm declaring myself king of hex's levels untill someone gets a better score Give these levels a try peeps as I think they're great. Also Hex I think if you are gonna keep these updated you should put both the easy and hard top score on as the thread is for both | 2009-02-28 17:42:00 Author: dorien Posts: 2767 |
Well, i had a glitch in Bomb Voyage.. My bomb got crushed, but didn't explode. So i could just survive without having to worry about the bomb. I decided that would be a bit lame since it would be really easy.... Also, Dodgitron is my favourite! I loved it. | 2009-02-28 17:58:00 Author: ThommyTheThird Posts: 440 |

Thanks for telling me about the glitch Thommy I believe I got that fixed and especially thanks for not exploiting it. Gratz on your insane score dorien, I am not sure I could even beat that one lol. I updated the scores and they now list Easy and Hard #1s. Thanks for playing and keep it up! I also noticed Dodgitron has like 20 hearts and 600 plays which is my lowest heart to play ratio yet. It has 4 stars though so I am not complaining. I think it is because it gets a lot of replays and it is sort of a hit or miss. Anyway if you like it I encourage you to heart it! | 2009-03-02 13:40:00 Author: Hexagohn Posts: 335 |
Wow... those levels are sick! wooow.... ok uhm.. I like the Bomb Voyage level most i think. And actually i'm getting kinda annoyed of those VR level... No offence though, but I'm seeing them everywhere O_O One thing on the Bomb voyage level though; when the bombs explode, you can see that there's no wall at all.. i believe. Maybe it would look cool if you added some kind of cave looking wall there... Y'know with holes 'n stuff | 2009-03-02 16:03:00 Author: Yarbone Posts: 3036 |
Thanks for checking them out, I know what you mean there are a ton of VR material levels but it was just perfect for the theme I wanted. I tried to spice it up with the background lining but oh well. Thats a good idea with the background thing. I will probably add it today. What did you think of the Asteroid Attack survival challenge? I really loved Solidplace and would love your opinion on this one. | 2009-03-02 16:08:00 Author: Hexagohn Posts: 335 |
Uh lol I haven't played that one yet >_<... will do... probably No, wait, i'm gonna do it now :hero: | 2009-03-02 17:47:00 Author: Yarbone Posts: 3036 |
Thanks man, im still doing F4F, anything you want me to check out? | 2009-03-03 03:21:00 Author: Hexagohn Posts: 335 |
I told you I liked these before, but I play them occasionally with other people... thought you'd like to know that me, OCK, Leonidas2123, and Jaeyden were goin' ballistic on the space ship one last night. We lasted a good long well and went into supernova mode, which I didn't even know existed til then. We wouldda had an even higher score after dying, but we failed to connect the full multiplier on the points at the end :/ That is one awesome survival challenge, man. | 2009-03-03 03:47:00 Author: Unknown User |
Yo.... I played Asetroid attack.. and i didn't expect it to be that hard o_O (yes i did the easy version xD) I didn't get a really high score i believe :/ because i was just barely at the sun, on the background. (looked really cool btw... the sun) And it was really fun to play, although I still like Bomb Voyage most OH and I probably know where you got the name from >=] The Incredibles!! :hero: | 2009-03-03 05:19:00 Author: Yarbone Posts: 3036 |

Yeah it is pretty hard, I might make an easier version. Its not hard to tweak it to make it easier. I originally was going to use Bombs Away as the name but it was already used by a member of this forum lol, I decided on Bomb Voyage, I almost didn't use it because it was in incredibles, I dont like to copy things lol. Thanks for the feedback ninja, I am curious, did the little picture show and everything work after supernova mode was reached? | 2009-03-03 22:06:00 Author: Hexagohn Posts: 335 |
Well done on getting spotlighted! I really enjoyed these levels | 2009-03-09 10:51:00 Author: wexfordian Posts: 1904 |
