Community Chessboard #8 - It's Bigger and Better!

Archive: 34 posts

http://i.imgur.com/wp475z8.jpg

The Community Chessboard is back! And it's now 302% larger than it's predecessor! It's an ambitious one but it's worth it.

Please Read the Rules First!

- You must only save the Chessboard as a Bitmap File (.BMP) or .PNG - Other file formats will ruin the whole board

- These are more like guidelines as opposed to rules. Nothing bad is going to happen but please try to stick to them, they're there for a reason. Except if you break rule #1, in which case, congratulations, you've ruined the board...

- Copy the image into your preferred editing software and upload it online (Imgur, TinyPic and Photobucket are the most common). Add the image to your post by using Copying the link (make sure you copy it from the full image) and placing it between "" (link goes here) "" without quotation marks.

- Please post before you fill in a square; edit your post with the updated chessboard after using the "edit" button. Do not make a new post for the updated square. This is more important if the thread gets busy.

- If you have taken more than an hour to update your post, other users are welcome to add to the board even if you haven't finished.

- Do not go over or edit other people's work unless you have asked for (and they have given) their permission.

- Pixel Art only. If your not familiar with Pixel Art, you can Google it or ask here. It will become obvious as the chessboard progresses what it is. It doesn't matter if your not very artistic. You don't even have to be good, it's about having fun and bringing the community together!

- No Copy/Pasting! You may recreate existing pixel art for the board as long as you draw it from scratch

- All work should be original. Same as rule above. Do not copy old pixel art you made previously. Although I won't be able to tell

- You can choose to draw inside the box or up to the box. If the box next to yours has been filled in but the lines are still present, please fill in the line between the two boxes.

- Do not hog the board! Please stick to one box at a time. You may fill another square in

- Try to make your square fit with any and all surrounding squares, if all surrounding squares are empty then you can go wild!

- Do not leave white gaps in your square, you must fill in the background.

- Encourage activity by giving "thanks" contributions. Obviously this isn't a place to abuse the rep system by thanking every post but it should help to encourage new users to add a square.

- Always follow rule number 1, it is the most important rule. Double check before and after you save that the file has the right extension (.PNG or .BMP - it doesn't matter if they're in capitals or not).

Only save the file as a .PNG or .BMP!

If you have any questions, you can ask them here, send me a Private Message (PM), or look at the old thread here (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=80959-Community-Chessboard-is-BACK!-7).

I would just like to ask that, this time, people try to actually have the squares flow into each other, and now jut have a random red face from an old buddy of mine that doesn't mesh with everything else. Randomness is good, but I want the random to flow into each other so the whole thing looks more awesome.

Also, I would like a running tally of the most active participants in the first post, wally.

Anyway, guess I'm going first... or second, really.

EDIT: I am Speed Demon

Don't worry, I was going to cross that bridge when I get to it. At the moment, I thought I'd wait until someone else contributes first. It might be hard to see but the water gets lighter at the top of my square, it was to give an indication of the water line to give others a sense of order.

Great to see we finally have the chessboard back up, but I'll have to wait if I want to contribute a square. Anyways, good luck and let's make this one in under a year! 2014-09-07 04:50:00

Sorry, I can't except it, you saved it as a JPEG, which I specifically said not to do in the rules. In fact, I said it three times for emphasis. Save it as a Portable Network Graphic (.PNG) or the board becomes blurry.

I can't even save it because it's been shrunk, upload it to one of the websites mentioned in the rules first.

DONE!

Ruined Rock's and SwagosPuntos' face and included razk's square whilst saving the quality.

I saved it on my computer as a .png, so it must have been converted to .jpg when I uploaded it to Mediafire. I'll reupload it to Imgur - sorry for not noticing before.

It's fine, it's good to hear you actually knew what you were doing, I assumed you just completely ignored the rules! , If it's still on the old grid, I can fix that instead, I'm saving it each new piece to make a gif at the end (SR20's idea for the last one but I don't think he ever made it)

What? You have to copy the latest iteration into your preferred drawing software and jsut edit one square. Nothing about a new canvas :/

OOH sorry I did read the rules, I just didn't take them in. I'll do that.

I liked the idea of an island slowly being created, so I did that.

Good job on that.

Though personally, I would suggest not bothering trying to connect them at the moment, becasue rushing tot ry and fit them all together toward the end is the fun part. But that's just me

Wally von Almond, tell me: how long must I wait before I can do a repeat, yo, g dawg, in da hood?

haha the mad rush towards the end sounds great, I just liked the detail on the island. If I go again at some-point I'll do one further away.2014-09-09 16:59:00

Rules aren't that strict when it's quiet, say when the thread has been inactive for the best part of a day. It seems as soon as I started the thread, people stopped signing up, so I'd say you could start a new square to give it a bump, if we get a large wave of newbies then give them priority (aiming to get all of them to contribute). Just leave a sensible amount of time between each square you fill. I'm not going to do anything if you contribute too much, I might mention it if it happens repeatedly but it shouldn't really be a problem, It would defeat the purpose of the board if I said you couldn't contribute. I know; Long reply

I suggest you categorize the chessboard on a grid, so each space has a number and letter (i.e., G7 or A15), and then list which ones people made in the first post. Maybe make a rule that people can't make a square that connects to a square they already made. BECAUSE COMPLICATIONS MAKE EVERYTHING BETTER2014-09-09 18:45:00

It's a good Idea but it seems like a lot of work. Since the rules state to stick to one square at a time, I'm not going to change it, most people wouldn't do two squares next to each other anyway but at the same time, I don't want to limit those who had an idea to big for one square. I'll keep my mind open when as more squares get added, if I feel it's better to do it your way, I'll change it. http://i.imgur.com/rqx89Fm.png

I shall bump this by taking the next square.

EDIT: Nevermind, this school computer is on windows 8 and I can't find Paint. I'll do a new square when I get home, but until then someone else can do stuff

I expanded upon the giant face thingy to form some sort of stalagtite. Which.. is exactly what I did as part of the last chessboard.. hmm.
