Placing Material Without Overlapping Other Materials

Archive: 6 posts

Probably the most frowned-upon question in Little Big Planet, but I honestly have no idea how. If I try to place, say, a circle into a large patch of ground, it would overlap and erase the area the circle is placed. But how does one place that circle and only have the part protruding the ground show up (and the remains of the circle not placed)?

Sorry if you don't understand me.

Place the ground into the circle instead of vice versa. The placed object takes priority so placing the ground over the circle would cut the circle.2014-09-06 05:22:00

or use the merge glitch.2014-09-06 06:06:00

Or place the circle somewhere above, make a copy of the ground with L3, and in stead of placing the copy, use triangle to cut off part of the circle. Grid snap helps getting it to fit.2014-09-06 13:13:00

All of the above.

Or, pick the same material and thickness as your ground and place your circle. Use the slice and dice tool to cut the protruding part then you can change the material or thickness to whatever you want. I would do it this way if you can't stamp the ground over the circle, which is the easiest.

Hi Undifined.
I'd use the merge glitch.

OK, Not sure how many layers your using for the circular material piece, I'm assuming its 1 layer thick and you want to embed it in a large
3 layer thick material square.

Easiest way is to use the merge tool.

1. Start, with your ground (3 layer thick large area material block), Jusr draw this as normal.
2. Make a 1 layer thick smaller circle of the same material (for the hill).
3. Place a microchip on this circle and open its circuit board. place 2 further microchips on this chip board. Open the circuit board,
on each of those, and shrink their boards down to 1x1 size.
Now, Only select both of these chipboards togeather. You will now be able to move the circle and have it merge into the ground.
When its in place where you want it press circle twice to get out of it. It should now be in place. Just glue it to the ground and its
job done.

If your having problems getting it to work, just invite me and I'll help you do it. PSN sean88
