DV's Level Contest #4: The Results

Another contest, another set of results. This time, we saw four creators by the names of dynamokev77, Dawnbreaker_23, vezonfan01, and oscarejo compete as they took players on an adventure through the skies with their lovely entries. Through chit-chatting with a Greek goddess, fighting against a menacing army of gophers, soaring with the wind through some intriguing ruins, and hanging onto one colossal windmill after another for dear life, I had quite the time playing through these levels. I think you guys will too if you haven't tried them already. Of course, however, only one can win, so I might as well go ahead and say who it is. That very person, the winner of DVLC4, is...

DawnBreaker23, for (DVLC4) Gophers Stole Our Bombs! (https://lbp.me/v/qs5wqpc)

Indeed, the nasty gophers have attacked in this fantastic level of Dawn's. I really enjoyed playing through her previous entries for both DVLC1 and DVLC3, but I think Dawn's creating skills really shone in this one. You progress through all sorts of different obstacles with those cute and fuzzy gopher jerks, with a great sense of progression and consistency throughout. It takes great advantage of the sky theme with beautiful, hand-painted clouds, levitating gopher-bots, and some class-act product placement blimps. Other than that, the music works well, the bubble-collecting is off the charts, and nitpicks are at a minimum. Wonderful job with this one, Dawn.
As it's been done with previous contests in this series, the winning creator mentioned above will be awarded with a (U.S.) $20.00 PSN code, a creator interview which will start as soon once I bother sending the first question over, the top spot in the eventual level hub for said contest, and the general sense of accomplishment and such. (I'll try to record the entries too this time!) So then, I hope you guys enjoyed yet another contest, I'd like to take a moment and say... well-

..about there being just one winner. Well.. I didn't lie entirely then. In the DVLC4 thread, I did in fact say that I would consider a second place prize, and with four entries competing against one another, I thought I'd go ahead and implement it with this contest. However, I don't recall actually saying what the second place prize would be... soo that shall be a (U.S.) $10.00 PSN code and a specified #2 spot in the level hub (and a recording like the others, of course). Second place goes to...

vezonfan01, for The WayWind Islands (DVLC4) (https://lbp.me/v/qs5mp6m)

I really don't mean to come off as biased here even, I mean vez is one of my best friends on LBP and the net, but I really think there's something special crafted here. It's a beautiful and ambitious adventure, not going for the "sky theme" as directly as the other entries, but you can see that it's still implemented. The atmosphere is wonderful with an amazing sense of detail from the leaves blowing in the wind to the carefully sculpted series of roots hanging out. The wind system put in place can be finnick-y at times, but when it works, it works real well. Gliding for those secret bubbles, passing by the eloquent windmills or the ruined bridges and shacks, and gazing at the views you've unlocked by climbing the rocky heights makes for an overall delightful journey. And with an ending that I just personally loved. Congrats, vez.
Alrighty, so that wraps it up then! Thanks so much to each of you who entered, to everyone who tried to enter but just couldn't make ends meet, and to everyone who just supported the contest, well, in general! You know I have fun hosting these things, but I'm just going to say it again anyway. It was a pleasure running this, so look past the egotistical acronym for these contests and enjoy what these fine gadders have put together! As far as the future of these contests go, I will be hosting DVLC5, which will be my last level contest for the year, for a while, and likely in general. It probably seems kind of sudden, but I kind of like the idea behind having gotten to do several of these things throughout 2014. Aand leaving it at that right before LBP3 comes out should make for a nice stopping point as I had planned them for LBP2 anyway. With the threequel's slew of new tools and characters, the contest possibilities for the sites to take advantage of with their own official competitions should be very high.

That isn't to say that I'm fully rejecting the idea of coming back and doing a few more in the future, but things are bound to get more hectic for me soon enough. C'est la vie.

My unfinished entry should've won first place, second place, and the nonexistant third place. :kz:2014-09-05 12:16:00

Thanks for the kind words, the entries were indeed a ton of fun to play through. I've went ahead and recorded them all, so if you don't have easy access to the PS3, you can watch me play through them all in the spoiler below.

DVLC5 is currently set to kick off on Friday, September 12th. As for the hub, it might take a while due to my business with things, but I'll still make sure to put an honest effort into building it when I get the chance.
