Hello, PlayStation.Blog! I’m Tom O’Connor, Senior Producer in the LittleBigPlanet Production team at Sony XDev Europe.
As well as putting the finishing touches to LittleBigPlanet 3 (http://blog.us.playstation.com/tag/littlebigplanet-3/) on PS4 (http://www.playstation.com/en-us/explore/ps4) and PS3 (http://blog.us.playstation.com/category/ps3/), we have also been busy working on a brand new handcrafted (and handheld) mini-adventure. Run Sackboy! Run! is a free-to-play, platform-survival game built exclusively for PS Vita (http://blog.us.playstation.com/category/ps-vita/) and mobile devices, in which you can earn exclusive costumes for LBP3.

The Negativitron (that big nasty vacuum cleaner who sucks up all the creativity) is back, wreaking havoc on Craftworld and nipping at the heels of our very own Sackboy! Using simple tap and swipe gestures, you’ll speed through three iconic worlds from the LittleBigPlanet series — The Gardens, The Canyons, and Avalonia — evading danger for as long you can. Anyone can enjoy the game, but as Sackboy charges along at top speed, you’re going to need super-quick reactions to keep him on course and out of trouble.

Collect as many bubbles as you can as you speed through Craftworld, and then use your bubbles to buy special costumes and upgrades. Each of the costumes in the game have built in score multipliers, meaning you don’t only look snazzy but you can get higher scores too. You can challenge your friends using the game’s built-in social feature and scoreboards. There’s loads of power-ups too, including a Jet Pack, Shield, and Magnet, plus my personal favorite: the Glider. You also have a mission ladder system, meaning there are always new objectives and challenges each time you play.

There are tons of stickers to collect too, and an in-game Sticker Book to keep them all nice and tidy. As you complete collections of stickers you will unlock special rewards. You will not want to miss out on the exclusive costumes for LittleBigPlanet 3 which you will be able to gad about in when the game is released later this year on PS4 and PS3.
The game is scheduled for release in October this year, and will be available on PS Vita, iOS, and Android. We can’t wait to tell you more about the game soon.

Endless runner minigame huh. Sounds alright, shame I don't have a PSvita... Or a Android phone... Tho I may know somebody who does, suppose I'll see. But hey can't beat free to play game with costumes that are basically free if you don't count the fact you'll have to earn them in game. I don't blame you, mobile phones are ridiculously expensive in the long run. It depends how old you are. As a student, you can't really afford not to have one, if your still in school, it's not really a big deal, especially with social media and free messaging services. I got my phone for free and I'm on pay-as-you-go so I've only spend ?8 in 9 months. Whereas some people have ?30 monthly fees! FYI texts are a complete rip-off, it costs the network company a fraction of a penny (literally next-to-nothing) for you to send a text.

Back on topic, I didn't read the part where it said "released in October" so I was disappointed when I couldn't find it on the store. It sounds a lot like Mega Run.		2014-09-04 17:37:00

It'll be cute dressing up Toggle as that cheerleader and Sackboy as the football player.

Anyways this game looks awesome, although the fact that it has an old villain and old worlds is a bit confusing. I'm also hoping for trophy support on the Vita version... But odds are it'll be a PS Mobile game. Either way it's good Sackboy is getting some exposure and attention, hope this leads to more LBP3 sales.		2014-09-04 18:07:00

Isn't PS Mobile dead? Either way, I'm sure it will have Game Center achievements on iOS, so I would say it's certainly possible it will have trophies on Vita.

I'm excited for this, certainly not as much as a full LBP game, but it could be cool. It's obviously a fan-fare project, which explains the re-use of old LBP themes, which at the same time will act to try and win over some new fans. I do like that it unlocks costumes for LBP3, I'm just praying it doesn't follow the route of other F2P games and have some sort of energy meter that limits how much you can play at a time. If there are unlocks involved, I want to be able to play the crappola out of it to earn them lol.		2014-09-04 19:56:00

I like to think that since the game is based of old worlds and stuff from LittleBigPlanet 2 and 1 (or think), sackboy ran all the way to bunkum (and picked up some of the new costumes coming from the place). Then again, thats me, so yeah.2014-09-04 21:06:00

I have no idea what you are talking about? For starters I was just joking. I'm not a MLP fan, But I also have absolutely nothing against MLP fans. And I know for a fact there's a lot of MLP fans who already play LBP and are fans of LBP too. And how the mew would a costume pack and maybe level kit of MLP ruin LBP for anyone? As a MLP fan I would disagree, While I'm pretty sure that there will be never a MLP Pack. (Hasbro is just a greedy company) People shouldn't go all upset over a single pack and a costume.

If somebody's joy of LBP would be so easily ruined by such a thing as that then IMO we are better off without people of that type of bratty attitude in the community anyways.

Tho personally I'd just prefer more people in general to be more open minded and realize there's nothing wrong with people being different from each other. As variety is 1 of the best parts of life and there's nothing wrong with it. There's no reason to be mad at somebody just because they have different hobbies from themselves.

I have to say, it is very boring with all this... waiting. I mean seriously, first of all, Littlebigplanet 3 is in the works for November and then a new game in october to wait for now. Next thing to happen, LittleBigPlanet Hub will be coming out in a few weeks and... wait hold it, nevermind.

I'm thinking this will be nice, although I question the centaur/unicorn costume (is that thing going to have fully functional backlegs?). To be honest, when you referenced most people as being "too young to know" I had assumed that included me and that you were, in fact, around 40-50. It was humorous to find out that you're only 22.

Thx man You know I just was never able to be a cynic about anything, whereas it seems most people fall into that trap as they get older. It's easy to start complaining about everything, but I've found it much more enjoyable to keep looking to the future and look for things to be excited for. Which isn't to say I can't rant a little from time to time... Speaking of which (lol):


I hope it's not a freemium game, I'd still play it, I just hope it's not.

This is my sole worry for this game. It is going to be a "free" game, Sony has said so already. Now I've been burned enough times to be weary of F2P games. I hope the EU forces games that aren't truly free to play to adopt a new naming convention. Trials Frontier was a maddening experience, and any game that forces you to keep paying over and over to keep playing (no option to purchase a "full" version) is a really scummy practice. That said, I have hope this won't be the case with Run. I think Sony has more to gain by using this as a promotional tool for LBP3 and to test mobile waters as well, and I think they know that. So you can quote me on predicting that this will be actually free to play (at least at launch, who knows if they decide to expand with paid dlc, but no pay for fuel shenanigans).

I think the writing is in the unlockable costumes for LBP3. Sony wants mobile players to play this fun cute beautiful game and notice that they have unlocked stuff for the "full experience on Playstation 4". They are hoping this will motivate those players to do a little search to find out what this is and where they can get said full experience. Ideally (for Sony) this leads to more PS4 sales (or at least LBP3 sales)! I think it's pretty smart, and us (already) fans get an extra game out of it

Especially handy for creating characters in your levels I'd say.

Awesome, thanks for sharing that gameplay vid! I'm watching it now and first thing that comes to mind is I'll likely be turning the in-game music off pretty fast, I've heard the garden themes enough times, having it playing on loop every time I start a new run might just drive me nuts. Don't get me wrong, I love that song, but just like that track you love that gets played over and over on the radio, after a while you just can't stand it anymore.

Otherwise it looks ok, it's definitely a mobile game, but at least it doesn't look like there are any terrible F2P features. I can see myself going through this one to unlock costumes and that RSBR t-shirt.		2014-09-30 19:47:00

I think it might be out by tomorrow. It's out in the New Zealand iOS app store, which is ahead of the world in terms of time, so hopefully we all get it around midnight... I think it's mostly the sound effects in this game that'll force me to put it on mute. The jumping noise is tolerable, but constant bubble collecting and points multipliers will drive me crazy. With all that negative stuff said... I hope this game will get somewhat popular and put attention on LBP3.

I have a question though... Are those stickers/goodies we collect going to transfer to LBP? I already know the costumes do, but I wasn't expecting stickers in the game.

An excellent way of getting people into the franchise.

Now make a Flappy Birds clone using Swoop and call it Fly, Swoop, Fly! Follow this with a Angry Birds clone called Little Big Toggle. In this game you have two Toggles, one small and one large. You use the large Toggle to pull the catapult and the little Toggle as the ammunition. When you let go by pressing the toggle button it switches Big Toggle into Small Toggle and Little Toggle into Big Toggle. Well, looks like it was simply a soft launch in New Zealand, likely so they can test the waters and fix any bugs before launching worldwide. Hopefully it will launch soon rather then the last week of October, I'm really eager to play this now. Definitely playing on Vita though, my OG iPad mini has become crash city since iOS8 (it was bug-city in iOS7 so I traded one ailment for another :meh

Funny which sounds trigger opposite reactions for all of us. For me the bubbles and multipliers are such enjoyable sounds that I can enjoy them over and over. Instead of blasting someone publicly on a forum, why not use the ability to send a polite private message if it bothers you so much. A new update added the above Toggle costume (although you can't redeem it properly yet) and also adds lucky chests which contain coins (or bubbles). You need 500 coins to unlock an Aviator costume for Sackboy. Apparently you get daily prizes as well, but I have to wait about 20 more hours for my first one...2014-10-30 01:26:00

It's amazing seeing the general feedback of this game! It already has over 100 5 star reviews and is in the Top 20 most downloaded free apps. Oh yeah, and LBP3's position on Amazon went up quite a bit since its release.

Yeah, it's out on android now. Unfortunately it lags a ton randomly on my Sony Xperia Z. Whenever I change the quality setting it does absolutely nothing to clear it up. I thought it took them this long after the iOS version release to prevent this lag from happening on android. The game does also lag on my iPod Touch 4G, but it's running iOS 6 which uses all of the RAM that the iPod Touch 4G has which makes it almost unusable. (I blame apple trying to make me buy a newer iPod which is part of the reason I switched to android)

Hopefully this gets fixed soon, so I can actually play without misjudging how long I have to hold jumps.		2014-11-29 11:40:00

So which of the costumes can you actually get for the main LBP games? I thought you'd be able to get all of them, and very specifically the bigfoot costume, but no dice. I thought for sure the unicorn was available. (I'm a looooooooong way from testing that one)

Is it just the shirt, the aviator and the gnome? (That aviator is going to be a pain to get.)

This wouldn't be so irritating if us fans were kept up-to-date.

Remember HUB? December 2013 came and went and Sony acted as if it was never revealed. Now October came and went (November as well) and the RSBR Vita has been completely ignored. It's all about communication... Tell us why it got delayed, give us an estimate of when it'll come out (not hard to do some math and come up with a date), and apologize for your error in the first place.		2014-12-02 21:28:00

So what's up with those HQ renders for the costumes that aren't winnable? I know some of them are pre-existing (jockey, crocodile, mayan warrior) but the others (Kangaroo, yeti, football player, unicorn princess, aviator) seem to be new.
