Does anyone know how profiles transfer between lbp2 ps3, and lbp3 ps4?

Archive: 26 posts

Trying to find out how profiles get imported into lbp 3 for ps4 to see if it's worth trying to hunt for my old ps3 hard drive, which I kept after its processors melted before I go back to uni. Obviously if it's via some form of file transfer of save file using usb I will need to find it so I can get the files off.2014-09-03 15:52:00

Thanks for the reply. I guess I will have to go on a hunt then just in case. Hopefully there will be official word on it soon however, as the longer they leave it, the more people will have completely made the switch over to the newer console.2014-09-03 16:23:00

Yeah, it is a burning question. The only thing even close to an answer about if we even will be able to transfer was a quote from an xdev person (sarah wellock)? was that they were working to ensure we will be able to take as much of our stuff as possible over to lbp3. If the news was out there, it would definitely be in here. Many, many people are asking this question.2014-09-03 16:31:00

They said they were working on getting saves to transfer, hopefully, they figured out how it'd work.2014-09-03 16:38:00

I have high hopes. I know a few other games are transferring saves between gens and even cross platform.2014-09-03 17:00:00

Like mentioned, it's not officially confirmed but my best guess would be either through the PS+ cloud save or using some external storage like a flashdrive.2014-09-03 18:09:00

I have seen the answer to your question on something called the internet. Took me one minute to find out.
So you would rather be arrogant about how we apparently don't know how to use the internet than answer the question with the link?

There is no confirmed answer. To my knowledge, this is the closest thing to an answer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=ePLtSxYgUGw#t=1534).
It's very likely but not confirmed and there has been no mention of how it will be implemented.

The most likely method would be PS+ cloud saves, as you do need PS+ to play ps4 games online anyways. But the problem with that is as LBP is a family game, its most likely that people have multiple accounts on their ps4/ps3 and one with PS+ to share with all of them. The other accounts cannot use their cloud save.

Another method, which is being used by Minecraft between the PS3/Xbox360 and PS4/XboxOne is cloud saves. You choose a specific world save to upload to a cloud specifically for saves from your prev gen console and then on your next gen console it recognizes you have a save in the cloud linked to your profile and then you can download it to your next gen console. I guess cloud saves could be used for LBP profiles, if sumo digital updates LBP2 to support it.

Here are the way I see it being done

USB
PS+ Cloud
LBP Data Download (like sharing objects in lbp, but with your backup file)

if any of these are arguable, or if you have any other potential way to transfer, argue away

Anyone remember LBP Hub? I really think LBP hub will be a free app on PS3 and PS4 that allows you to transfer data between the two. But that's just my thinking.2014-09-04 03:25:00

I suppose this also could work.

I wonder if you'll be able to edit your PS3 LBP2 levels on the PS4 LBP3 game? I doubt it as they're completely different architectures. Or if you can still edit and republish your levels on the PS3 after you've imported your profile to the PS4? Or import those levels and continue editing them in LBP3 since all community levels in LBP2 will still be playable in LBP3.

I cannot wait for the official answers on this and more, as I'm still in the process of finishing off one of my levels on PS3. My bet is they'll be using the PS+ cloud. Those not on PS+ or a PS4 yet will use an import function or external storage device.

You probably can I would bet. If you can play the levels then obviously they would be compatible. Just like how you can edit LBP1 levels in LBP2. We just aren't sure on how we would get the levels through.

It wouldn't make much sense if it was purely cloud based. I'm sure there are are large portion of people without ps+, however I haven't looked at the statistics. The file sizes could potentially get very large as well depending on the complexity and number of levels on everyone's moon.2014-09-04 22:46:00

Very true. I feel like there would be several ways to get your profile through since there are several ways to get your profile onto different PS3's. I feel like the cloud save would just be one of the methods though.

People are continuing to make levels on LBP2 and continue them on LBP3, seeing as how sumo has been pushing that, I'm sure there will be some way to do this

Shhhh.... Your not allowed to discuss that! I know the answer to this question but due to NDA rules I'd rather not get banned or such.

Yeah... that N.D.A. is still in effect. We know you are all excited to discuss the beta but we have to respect the developer's wishes and will delete anything claiming to be beta related whether it is accurate or not. When the contract is voided we will alert everyone but for the moment please be patient. As you know the developers frequently visit this site and we strive to lead by example so show them how awesome we are as a fan community; make them proud.2014-10-07 23:33:00

Alright, I see we can't talk about it. All I have to say is, anyone worried about not being able to transfer their data shouldn't be. There will be a way of some sort.2014-10-08 04:24:00
