LittleBigPlanet PS Vita Profile Size bug

Archive: 9 posts

Is your profile size very large? If so then you may experience major lag in LittleBigPlanet PS Vita as the game saves the profile when it should not do so, like when you close your Popit.

Like most games with user generated content, LittleBigPlanet PS Vita can create very large save files as it has to remember every level, sticker, and captured object you created or obtained. Initial loading times can be very long if your profile size is very large, and the time it takes to save increases when you have a lot of content saving. This is shared with similar games like LittleBigPlanet 2, ModNation Racers for PlayStation 3, and ModNation Racers: Road Trip.

What does this have to do with my freezing issues? This is a bug that is worsened by the very large size of your profile. Due to LittleBigPlanet PS Vita's buggy code, the game loads your profile in places it would not do so if the bug did not exist. This bug manifests as various problems in the game, such as freezing for short periods and the game not handling itself as fast as it should. This is why when you use the undo function, it can take seconds before the game will actually undo the action when it should undo it after half a second when you activate the undo function by pressing the left directional button.

Features affected by this bug:
*When loading a level, you may see a white loading screen. This is because it is loading your profile, but it is taking longer than usual because you have a large save file.
*Sounds may take longer to load than it is supposed to, causing sounds to play at an incorrect time.
*When you close your Popit, the game has to save all of your profile data, due to the strange format of the save data. If you have a very large profile, the saving icon can appear for a very long time, though it should not do so.
*When you publish a level, download DLC items, use the camera tool, or switch to a different page of downloaded levels, the game can appear to freeze in the middle of the process, as the bug is causing the game to load your profile.
*As said above, when you use the undo function, it can take seconds before the game will actually undo the action when it should undo it after half a second when you activate the undo function by pressing the left directional button.
*When loading an object such as a scoreboard or custom object, it will load for a while before you can place the object.
*When trying to connect to other players, you can be kicked to the pod, and it will show a message similar to the string "Unable to connect to other players".
*When changing the magic mouth's text, you may be unable to do anything for a while.
*When entering a level in Create Mode, the game may freeze for a few seconds and then unfreeze.
*When the game attempts to load another player's earth, the game may take an extended period of time to load the earth, or may even never load it.
*When online, the game may take an extended period of time to save your profile. It can show the saving icon for more than five minutes if you have an extremely large profile.
*When searching for levels, the keyboard may take a while before moving to the screen, preventing you from doing anything before it appears.

These symptoms are more problematic while connected to the LittleBigPlanet Servers.
If you experience more than one of the above symptoms, or experience issues similar to these, you are affected by this bug, and have a large profile.

Update: It appears that deleting items in-game does not fix the profile size bug. To fix the problem you will need to either delete your LittleBigPlanet PS Vita game or partially corrupt your profile. Deleting LBP PS Vita will delete all installed updates and save data, and create some downtime as you will need to update your game and reactivate any cross-buy items. Corrupting your profile has a chance of you being able to keep your story mode progress, but if your profile gets completely corrupted the game will fail to save properly until you delete the game. Obviously having a chance to keep your Story Mode progress is better than having to delete the game entirely and restarting as if you just purchased the game.

Before doing this, make sure to back up any items you want to keep in a level and publish that level to your Earth, as both options will delete your created objects, costumes, and stickers.

When your profile is corrupted, select option that is not "retry", as you want to clear any remaining custom objects. If when the game loads, the introduction level starts, or you see a message that "Recent changes to your profile could not be saved due to an unknown error", then your profile is completely corrupted and you will need to delete LittleBigPlanet PS Vita and reinstall it again. If the Pod loads, then your profile is completely clear of any custom items, but your story progress is safe, and your profile size bug is cured.

If you have a large profile, take these steps to reduce your save file size.
*Remove all downloaded levels. Downloaded levels can be very large. Disconnect from the LBP Servers by holding the "PS" button, then activating "Airplane Mode". Then from the Pod, tap on the Earth, then tap the Downloads button, then tap "remove all".
*Reset your pod and Sackboy costume to default.
*Use the delete all community objects tool and delete all community stickers tool to delete the respective items.
*Delete levels that you have already published and will not update again in the future.
*Delete levels that you will never publish.
*Delete all costumes that you will never use again.
*Delete all saved pod objects, and customized Earths and Moons.
*Delete captured objects and stickers you will never use again.
*Delete all levels that you will not work on.
*Delete all levels on your My Moon if you do not plan on entering Create Mode for a while.
*If you are still experiencing issues and is willing to do this, delete all remaining objects, custom stickers, and costumes.

Feel free to discuss this issue here.

Thank you for your comments about this bug. Hopefully Sumo Digital (or whoever currently is working on LittleBigPlanet PS Vita) fixes the bug so it doesn't freeze my game.2014-09-03 15:46:00

I doubt it will happen since we don't even get any new Team Picks lately.

EDIT: Looks like the Team Picks are back. Hooray!

Good news. It appears that upgrading my memory card to 16 GB has reduced the effects of this bug, it doesn't take so long to save. I believe backing up and restoring the memory card can reduce the effects of this bug.2014-10-16 00:52:00
