Global Material Changer.

Archive: 12 posts

Just a simple one really. Instead of having to manually click on every material you want to change, just give us the option to change the material in the menu that shows you what stuff you've used in a level (can't remember what it's called) and it automatically changes all that material in your game.2014-09-02 07:59:00

what if you have one block of cardboard, chrome, and hologram

you global change cardboard to hologram, then the same to chrome

initial data is lost, but maybe some way to preserve initial material? so if it was cardboard first it tracks that?

other then that, this is a super great idea, and should definitely be implemented

I'm not sure what you mean. If you've made something out of cardboard, all you do is click on the material in your menu and it gives you the option to change material. So instead of having to search out that material, you simply change it all at once.

Solid idea. I'd add a part two and three. And in-game global material tweaker (suddenly all that pretty green sponge is EVIL) and an in-game material changer for individual objects.

You should add this to the logic thread (which should probably be in this forum)

This would be great. Especially for when you're nearly finished with a level and want to change some materials to reduce lag and you can't seem to find that one last piece of cardboard. This would certainly be a great time saver.2014-09-02 16:54:00

That is EXACTLY why I came up with the idea. I spent hours trying to track down a piece of cardboard and couldn't find it. It drove me nuts!

I just realised... Is this still necessary after the Dynamic Thermometer? Hopefully, more materials shouldn't really cause any damage.2014-09-03 01:14:00

Still, it would help us sleep better at night. Plus this feature would also be useful for viewing how different materials would look with scenery without having to change every little thing each time.

Another great advantage. Would play well into the idea of having a mini-scale overview of your level generated as you build it; a little map that you could use to check what materials are where, and also to transport yourself instantly to another part of a potentially ginormous level without all the zoomin' around and stuff.

Oh yeah, I remember that being suggested in another thread. Hopefully something like this is added since it would be very convenient.

It isn't to do with saving thermo. It's just a far more efficient and sensible way of changing materials.

What about full on customizable Huds like in LBPK? [with more features and custom objects/logic]
