I was curious myself, and found this:

"The salt and ice challenge is a YouTube phenomenon wherein participants pour salt on their bodies, usually on the arm and ice is then placed on the salt. This causes a "burning" sensation, and participants vie to withstand the pain for the longest time. " - From Wikipedia

I heard that it left 'cuts' on your skin; is that true?

I can see why you'd do it as a competition but if it leaves lasting/temporary damage/marks, it seems a bit silly.
Kids these days, eh!

Actually, it is quite dangerous...

From Wikipedia:

"The mixture of salt and ice lowers the freezing temperature of water, and causes an endothermic reaction which can greatly reduce the temperature of the mixture. This can quickly cause second and third-degree injuries similar to frostbite. Due to the numbing sensation of the cold and possible nerve damage during the stunt, participants are often unaware of the extent of any injuries sustained during the challenge. Participants risk suffering frostbite-like symptoms and second or third-degree burns. Skin discoloration from the challenge may remain after the challenge has been completed or failed."

This is no where near s dangerous as the cinnamon challenge. When you put the salt on your skin, you press an ice cube as hard as you can in it. As it melts, it reacts with the salt, leaving a sought of "burn". Teens do it as dares or to prove there "hard" to there mates. But don't worry, this is nothing like the Ice Bucket challenge, you can't be nominated for this =)2014-09-01 13:35:00
