3D Camera With 360* Rotation?!

Archive: 21 posts

After watching Gamescom vids with Gevurah22 showcasing Create Mode, I couldn't help but think of the 3D Camera glitch in LBP2...

Can you imagine what it would be like to just have a tool like this?

It would create a MASSIVE BOOM of innovative games with this 1 small tweak from Sumo Digital...

You can create immersive FPS games, RPGs, Racing Games...

Errmehgheerd...

Can I get a 'TCHYEA!' if you agree with this?

Yeah, it would add so much more depth. I'm not a programmer or anything, but it does seem like a simple thing to implement officially in the game.

In one of the earlier interviews, they mentioned something about a 3D camera. I can't remember exactly what they said but whatever it was gave me the assumption that they were introducing some form of 3D tool, whether it be a new camera or if they tweaked the old one.2014-08-24 17:13:00

I've said this on many other threads, but imagine top down levels with all 16 layers used and then the 3D camera. Oh the possibilities... 2014-08-24 18:09:00

Ugh yes we really do need this I don't think it would be that difficult. Would be like a 3-D game hopefully this is implemented I wouldn't mind racing or a open world level2014-08-24 18:40:00

You can make some sick FPS games Tynz, or make your RPGs more immersive

I know RIGHT! It's such a simple little tweak, I bet it would take Sumo Digital like 20 minutes to program it as a tool in the game

This is music to my ears. Do you have a link to it? It would make my day :O

It makes my eyes water just thinking about the possibilities. We can actually make 3D Platformers...

I can imagine a Sackturismo, or a Grand Sack Auto in LBP with this tweak. I honestly want to see a 3D Theme Park come out of this, or an extremely intricate 3D city.

Would be one of the best things to add. Instantly transform a top-down level into a 3rd or 1st person level. It'd be nice to have as a camera angle in create mode too, for better sticker/decoration placement on the sides of objects.

The only problem I can think of is the camera clipping through 3d objects, but they've already got some (http://i.minus.com/i4sToBXtDSp2d.jpg) kind (http://i.minus.com/ibbeeTEOjJJo5z.jpg) of (http://i.minus.com/ibiYJ0v87HPs4H.jpg) transparency ability for materials

I'm sure if they added this feature in the game, my college/social life will be gone for a few months ahaha

And in its place, there would be pure play, create, and share ecstasy. And a different kind of social life. Less flesh and blood, more knitwork and stuffing.

You're right though... I've got 5 college classes this semester and I need to focus. In fact, aren't I supposed to be writing a paper right now? ...hmmm.

That is tough, if only we could got paid to make games right!.

That would be a pretty good business model. Make a game engine game, let everyone be able to make games on the PS4, and inside the Playstation Store, you can sell that game you made and make some part-time cash with that.

You would be your own indie game studio from the comfort of your own room...

That would probably happen 5-10 years down the road. Lots of money can be made, and lots of people can retire just making games.

Well, theoretically, you can do that, just not through LittleBigPlanet. In fact, I have a level I was working on in LBP2 for about a year and a half (now I'm leaving it as an incomplete concept and adding a commentary about what went right/wrong) that, when I have the time and capacity to learn a dedicated game design software (right now I've got GameMaker Studio), I want to turn it into a fully fledged game.

The wonderful thing is, I wouldn't have known where to begin with that project if my experiences with LittleBigPlanet hadn't helped me in understanding the basics of programming through its easy-to-learn logic systems. The problem with it in LBP2 is that I was building things like 2D sprites and the user interface and controls from the ground-up, which--in addition to taking a very long time--was very thermometer and framerate intensive. LBP2 has to be wrangled like mad to display complex sprite animations. But now it's just a matter of translating what I know in LBP to software with 200% more technobabble.

That's awesome that you want to turn your concept to an actual game. In LBP2, I found a really cool way to make sprites feel alive without using too many stickers, and is thermo-friendly. In my games Sky Cobra and Aero Spartan (Links below in my signature), the Final bosses are these huge mechs that took weeks to do, but was well worth doing...

I basically separated all the pieces and attached followers to them, and for every sequence that I wanted the Mech to make, like body movements, and firing patterns, it would move accordingly and looked really nice and fluid.

There was no lag, it was thermo-friendly, and the pictures weren't chipping.

Someone recorded gameplay of Sky Cobra, and you can see one of the Mechs here

Perhaps this can help you make sprite games in LBP2 or LBP3 if you're planning to make games there

Yeah, probably so. I think my main issue is that I was sticking squarely to old-school pixel sprites which I built using the sticker panel material, and then used them as is (ie, not compressing them into cheaper sticker images, since I could never get them cut quite as cleanly as I would have liked.) That probably wasted more thermo than it was worth. Using an actual 2d pixel image would be the opposite of performance/space-intensive, but technically, I was using very squashed 3-dimensional images, since there are no "true" 2d materials in LBP. But you know, live and learn...

Very intense looking level by the way! Reminds me of Raptor: Call of Shadows, but only because that's the only top down bullet heck shooter I've ever really played.

It's what I've been waiting for...for 3 and half years

If people have a good memory, just after the release of LBP2, someone stumbled across the glitch camera. "Stumbled" wasn't good enough for me, so I systematically found how to make each camera (the thread is about somewhere on here), but I then got stuck trying to make an FPS...and that was 2011 and three small demos later I never achieved it. It kind of feels like I'm the silent expert on the 3D glitch camera

My main problem was rotation, so the last new Mover in LBP3 interests me greatly, because it looks like the combination of a Mover and a Rotator, side to side, up & down and rotation. I'm hoping that Rotators don't just turn from the middle, but from a point of your choosing, i.e, a Tag. That's all if the camera still works and they haven't fixed the inability for the camera to simply turn around without freaking out (which is preferable, obviously).

There are some problems though if the glitch remains the same. The camera was locked to a certain layer, which is good if it locks to layer 8, but not if it's layer 2 or 15. For example, if you wanted to create some stairs, you could easily move the level in and out, to give the illusion of moving up and down. But that doesn't work if you have no room to move up and down...or you can try destroying and emitting it in and out, and trust me that's a nightmare.

Anyway, excited and rambling

That's why everyone is hoping for a real 3D camera. With all the playable layers, there should be a camera that changes depending on that. There probably will be a camera that changes depending on the layer, but I'm not sure about if there will be 3D capabilities or not.

Thanks! Yea, LBP2's Thermo limit was a pain. I had so many concepts that I wanted to make, but it was too large for the level. LBP3 doesn't have a thermo I believe. I think they're going to rely on how many GBs your PS4 will be. So get one with the most memory haha.

XBONE has nothing on this.

From looking at the Gamescom Demo, the layers would fade away if it hit the camera, and their new system looks really responsive. I'm sure they can add the 3D 360* camera function easily.

I just want to clarify - LBP3 does have a thermo, but it's dynamic and only applies to what is rendered on screen.
