| Ok Rewritten rules, thanks to thegide for the new rules ideas, ok heres how it is now! All you need to do to enter is say if you are entering here, just so i know roughly how many people will take place, the competition will be judged when enough people have entered. Prize is 150 xp The aim of this competition is mostly to show off your musical talent to the rest of us and also to have a competitive musical contest to become number 1. What to do: 1,Enter the competition by saying so in this thread 2,Compose a piece of music-as many instruments as you like. remember the more instruments, the more composing. 3,Learn the piece. 4,Record the piece on all desired instruments. 5,Make some form of video-this may be anything,as long as it isn't rude, it does not have to be a music video it could be a slide show a LBP video or just words saying lyrics or anything, this is so that you can upload it to youtube. 6,Upload it as a video file on youtube. 7,Post either a link or the video here via the video upload tool onto this thread. 8,Wait to find out who wins xD RULES: No rude or racist remarks. Song must be ATLEAST 1 minute long Song must be composed by you and totally original. At the start of your song please state that it deffinitely if you and not just a song you ripped.(video is optional) There must be atleast 1 instrument playing, this includes singing.(well thats obvious or your not going to have much of a 'song'.) you can have as many instruments playing as you like. | Let me just warn you, however, that REAL music doesn't just consist of guitars, drums, and vocals. There are many people out there who play all kinds of instruments, and I think you should give them a chance too. | Actually Zommy, here's my suggestion on the contest. You're complicating it up needlessly I think. Rather than breaking it up into different instruments and the like, why not just call it this: "Write an original piece of music at least 1 minute long" Any instrument(s), any style. Video should be unnecessary, especially since not everyone is going to have a videocamera to record with, and this way, people can compose multitrack recordings (many instruments). Audio only should suffice, but entrants should be required to state their LBPC username within the audio track and give a brief description of what they wrote to ensure submissions are restricted to original content. Also, in the real world, good tracks are rarely the product of a "perfect take" so edits should be allowed. Vocals should be kept to clean language. | Yep... that's what I meant by an audio blurb at the beginning. Like "Hi, this is Thegide, and here's my awesome song....*shred*" Even with video there's no real way to prove it's you, so we'll have to go with the honor system. But, at least with audio, it's pretty easy to tell when audio has been spliced together from different sources. That means if anyone is thinking about just talking over top of an audio clip they downloaded, I'll know.... you've been warned.:kz: If enough people are actually interested in this, I can help judge. I'll probably submit something regardless, but I shouldn't be allowed to compete... I don't think it would be fair. I'll probably do an instrumental piece with guitars + drums, that is IF I can get my computer to cooperate. | Zommy, maybe ask one of the mods if they would like to host this as an official contest. I fear you may not get many takers otherwise. If XP could be rewarded.... There is already a writing contest started by RockSauron, so I see no reason why there shouldn't be a music composition contest. | O.o I just saw the modified title, does this mean that you got one of the mods to sponsor an xp prize? Great job! Also, the rules contradict the instructions. | Buckethead is Brian Carroll. But since that's probably not the answer you're looking for, I'll also tell you that he is an independent recording artist. He's not from any particular band, although he has done work with Praxis, Les Claypool, and has served a lot of time replacing Slash for Guns N Roses. He's very technically proficient and owes a lot of his style to jazz. His signature 8-finger tapping he picked up from Jennifer Batten, Michael Jackson's live guitarist during the early 80s. Of all of it, I like his work with Praxis best. If you can find this super rare album, get it. It's called Mutatis Mutandis. | Hmmmmm so what if I were to submit an electronic track just created on ableton. I'm opposed to the idea of recording my voice at the start... it'd probably ruin the song ^^. and what about people who want to make music that samples lots of things, like voice sampes and stuff?? This music is still considered original. I like the way this contest is shaping up though, so i might submit some electro stuff if i have the time! Oh and I kinda feel sorry for ol' Buckethead, it seems as though he's sacrificed his personality and his friends... he's really alienated himself behind that mask and the KFC bucket! Superblast, do you listen to Aphex Twin cause he's definitely my favourite electronic music, some of its ambient, and chilled out, but some of his stuff verges on drill and acid.
