Hexagonal?: So Hexy on lbp.me (https://vita.lbp.me/v/kzs7b/)

Hello, Sack-chums. I am proud to unveil Hexagonal2: So Hexy to you all today.

http://i.imgur.com/8kmCpIO.jpg

I made Hexagonal (https://vita.lbp.me/v/bxq71) over a year back, and recently had the crazy idea that it needed a sequel. A few weeks later, and such a sequel exists! I wanted to do more than just make new levels, so using the same core mechanic, I made pretty much everything from scratch.

The hexagonal grid used for the play space has been rotated to give a fresh spin (Heh) on the puzzles. This also meant a massive two more spaces were able to fit! That may not seem like a lot, but this level is absolutely bursting at the seams.

http://i.imgur.com/Jp1GFNY.jpg

If you're not familiar with Hexagonal, the idea is quite simple. You use touch to drag the deflector pieces on the board in order to light up the target piece. A tap on the L or R buttons will rotate the selected piece, so you have to use that big sexy brain of yours to visualize where the the lasers can and need to go!

http://i.imgur.com/mIRGdpR.jpg

Of course the puzzles aren't necessarily simple. As you complete more levels, the puzzles will evolve in complexity. You'll see deflector pieces that split the laser bream in two, multiple laser colors, grid pieces that can flip the color of a laser, and several more fancy new features that you'll have to discover for yourself!

http://i.imgur.com/nHF0dDi.jpg

The puzzles unlock in traditional app-style game fashion. Each level has multiple solutions, and just solving the puzzle nets you one star. Completing the puzzle without using one of the pieces nets you a second bonus star! There are 32 main levels, but if you get two stars on every level, you unlock three bonus hardcore levels. These bonus levels will truly test your hexagonalizationing skillz.

So there you have it. 35 levels of Hexagonal awesomeness, available only in Hexagonal2: So Hexy!

This pun.

It's perfect. I'm mad for not thinking of it myself. I think maybe the level needs a subtitle. "Hexagonal?: So Hexy"

Hey comphermc! I played your level and enjoyed it! :hero:

Starting with the positives...
The UI is insanely polished to the point where it doesn't even resemble LBP at all! This could be a game on the iStore/Google Play! The level of detail put into the UI and menu is really good! The selection of music is great and having the option to change music is a nice feature. The loading screens are a nice touch, have cool sound effects and have helpful tips. The unlock all levels feature is also really helpful for people without sexy brains. Some of the levels are really challenging and well designed (Level 7 pretty tough to complete, but was really satisfying when completed.)

That's all the positive things... now the negative... :kz:
I found the difficulty curve to be weird (For example,I found level 6 to be A LOT easier than level 5.) After playing for a while, the music I had chose started to become annoying... I know it's possible to change the music. However, being able to change the music mid-game would be nice. Finally... I didn't finish all the levels. 35 is simply way too much for me. I started losing interest, stopped having fun and quit the level after level 14. This may just be a problem with me. However, I feel like more variety of gameplay could have stopped this from happening.

In conclusion, it's a decent puzzle game with really polished UI that will entertain you for a little bit.
Overall it's a 7.2/10
I yay'd!

Yeah, the difficulty is not meant to be straight linear. After a tricky puzzle, it drops off to let you relax a little. Also, the first time you see a new type of piece or a new feature on the board, the puzzle will be easier, so you can focus on understanding what this new thing is all about.

Understandable. You are not required to play all of it. Edit: It's definitely not meant to be played all at once. If you do give it a second chance, there are some new mechanics that start getting introduced later:

Laser Color Changers - Level 22 Switch Gates - Level 25 Portal Gates - Level 29
I suppose I could have introduced them sooner, but there's not much too be done about it now.

Thanks, dude. I hope that's not an IGN scale.

Just republished the level with a tip stating that your progress is saved, since that may not have been clear. After you complete a level, that is 'memorized' - you don't need to complete it all at once.2014-08-16 18:51:00

I loved it... the graphics, the interface, the mechanics moving the pieces and placing all perfectly thought out. Even the detail of dropping where something already is resolved as expected.

..and the puzzles are brilliant and lots of fun. Really awesome job.

What happened? I can't fix a bug if I don't know anything about it!

I sent you a PM. The bug is about getting a higher rating than you actually earned, i.e. getting two stars when you used all of the pieces (without leftovers).

I have published a fix for this. Not perfect, but it shouldn't allow the exploit anymore.

For those who didn't notice, Mac-Fox realized that if you solved a puzzle and then picked up a piece, the laser could still be lighting up the targets and you win. Then the game would think you solved it with an extra piece.

I just forced the game to give 1 star if you get the "win" screen, but the puzzle is not still solved. Hopefully it should fix it. Maybe not. Oh well. The points are all made up and don't matter anyhow.

It's nice... but really? It doesn't seem much more than Hexagonal 1 with more levels. And that gets repetitive. To me it doesn't feel like a sequel, it feels like the first Hexagonal with a few small graphical changes.2014-08-17 16:58:00

Would have been nice to know that before I stayed up all night getting all 70 stars...

Except that dreaded mrsupercomputer is ahead of me.... RAAAAWR!! lol

BWAHAHAHA! And it's gonna stay that way! I stayed up very, very late trying to 2 star that final bonus puzzle. I almost gave up and passed out from brain fatigue but then a giant, sackboy like figure appeared above my bed. On his head, a golden crown that was as bright as the sun! He wore magnificent robes and spoke with a deep voice.

He said "No mrsupercomputer, you can't let that arrogant fool, comphermc, defeat you! You're better than him! You're smarter than him! You're more good looking than him! You're more athletic than him! You're a more passionate lover than him! You are a better creator than him!..."

He went on for several more minutes.

"You're a better cook than! You have better hygiene than him! You're funnier than him! You have better hair than him! And finally, you are more determined than him!"

After hearing these words, I looked up and said "Yeah, you're right creepy yet majestic Sackboy that is standing over my bed watching my wife and I sleep. I am better than comphermc! I AM BETTER!"

My wife then yelled "Who are you talking to in the middle of the night?!"

"No one!" I replied "Just go back to sleep!"

I then picked up my Vita and resumed Bonus Level 3. "Time for a little extramarital hex!" I said, slightly chuckling to myself.

"WHAT?!" my wife exclaimed as I discovered she was still awake.

"Nothing! Just a bad joke.. it's a pun.. because the level is called He.."

"I don't care." She said has she rolled over to go back to sleep.

I then shifted my focus back to the demon known as Bonus Level 3. I sat for a moment, perplexed... but then... then I saw it! It was right in front of me this whole time! And with a few swipes of my finger and clicks of the L and R triggers... it was over. The beast had been defeated! I yelled out in triumph "VICTOOORYYYYY!!!" and then threw my Vita on the ground and set it ablaze.

"I'll see you in hell." I whispered as the fire burned. I then fell back to my bed, tired, but satisfied as I finally succumbed to exhaustion.

The End.

These puzzles were super fun! Not exactly sure why, but i liked this significantly more than the original hexagonal, which I also played recently and liked a lot, too. Friendlier difficculty curve, better designed puzzles, i don't know! I just found it to be more fun. Only thing I would like changed would be having a wider selection of music to play, since it's a pretty long level! Thankfully there's a memorizer put to good use.

I found a little bug: due to a slight delay, it's possible to trigger a gate open... with the laser that comes out of it when it's open! It gets all blinky. Trying to use this exploit to complete a puzzle turned out to be more difficult than solving the puzzle the right way though, so I didn't look further into this, there was fun to be had! Anyway, great job!
