Gamescom Presentation Analysis

Archive: 27 posts

I made a thing on Planetarium and thought I should post it here too.

The presentation in question can be watched here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdIwsFeCNoQ) (thanks, LittleBigRussia!).

So I guess I'll do a text write-up of all the stuff I noticed from that presentation. Here we go!

David (Gevurah) says that there are people starting levels in LBP2 to finish in LBP3, which makes me assume that we'll be able to import our moon over from LBP2 to LBP3 like expected.
Pins are back. Sarah jokes about giving a pin to people who make banana-nunchucks on day one. I kinda hope that turns out to be a real thing.
Swoop looks terrifying when it blinks.
You are able to put logic on characters as if they were sackbots. You can also turn characters around so that their back faces the camera.
You can float between layers in create mode.
Also, here's the tools bag. The dephysicalise tool has returned from LBPV! There's also a new tool that looks like a Pop-it cursor with a corner editor at the end of it. Could that be the lasso-corner editor from LBP PSP and LBPV? There's also some stuff I don't recognize under "adventuring" and there's a category called "infinity levels"

Here's the gadgets page of the tools bag. There's some kind of new sensor with a pair of binoculars as an icon. There's something new in the logic category, too. Some kind of wave. That mysterious lightning-microchip is categorized as a "logic container." The move tools are back too. There's also 2 new movers. One of them looks like an "in/out mover plus," and the other looks like a more advanced "advanced mover."

http://i.imgur.com/4dZVy6M.png

Thirdly, the gameplay page of the tools bag. It looks like the bendy rail is found in the connectors section, along with the rail hook that rides along the top of it. Under "getting around" there is a "layer launcher" pad, a slide, a portal, and some kind of unknown tweaker. Under "spawning and ending" we have 2 character change booths and an unknown tweaker.

http://i.imgur.com/xTHJTzr.png

Also, once they scroll down a little bit you can see the "points and prizes" category. It appears that there's a new tool for setting the level prizes. There's also the score sensor, the score giver, and a "collectabell," whatever that may be.

Static and dynamic options return from LBP PSP and LBP Vita.
The layer launcher can be tweaked in the following ways: arc, air-steering (the amount of control you have over yourself while flying), and whether it's automatic or not.
You can choose the material of slides, as well as their thickness and height it seems.
The bendy rail is basically a path-creator. You can draw out a pathway for objects to follow.
Here's the bendy rail's tweak menu. I can't read what the first setting says. "Interact" maybe? You can give it the appearance of a material, and adjust the colour, brightness and animation speed. There are probably more options below that aren't visible in the trailer.

The rail hook's tweak menu allows you to toggle "hook motion" (whatever that is), and set the speed and sync. You can toggle if it's backwards or not, too, and it has acceleration/deceleration strengths that are adjustable. You can change the input action (speed scale is shown in the video) and you can make it invisible in play mode.
There's a "character animation tweaker." One of the options is "underwater walk."
Your saved characters go into your Sack Pocket.
You can use the DS4 touchpad to control menus and cursors. You can also paint your own stickers using it.
There's a trophy icon in the pop-it labelled "Organisertron." It most likely is some kind of quest journal or something.
The pause menu of the sticker painting menu suggests that it works with the PS Move still as well.

Build your own powerups! The "blaster handle" is a microchip that signifies that an object is a powerup.
The custom powerup base seems to call powerups "adventure items."
You can see what might be the new powerups used in story mode, or what might just be templates or something. Apparently David keeps the severed heads of his enemies inside his sack pocket. I seriously have no idea why that head is in there.

http://i.imgur.com/LepS1ZW.png

You are able to toggle preview mode on and off without pausing the game.
There's a "decoration mount" tool, that resizes decorations apparently.
The end screen looks like LBP1!

...And that's it.

I probably missed a few things but jeez this took like 2 hours to write up.

Peace.

EDIT: LBPC doesn't like how I formatted something. I fixed it.

Ha, I just did an analysis on NeoGAF and screengrabbed a lot of the same images. Good to see I don't appear to be missing anything. And good job here too Klaww.2014-08-15 02:07:00

I'm just taking a guess here, but...

This tool might be able to make objects that it is on usable by the touchpad, but this is a guess, so it might not be correct.

Also, nice job on the post, I really like the formatting.

Have you noticed that the logic piece is under the category "Spawning and Ending"? I don't think your guess is correct.

Also I'm almost certain they can't include tweaks that can only be used in a certain platform (PS4) and not in the PS3.

Pretty cool write up...

I guess being new I didn't know the scoreboard was old, I thought it was new.

Come to think of it, that's probably a global character changer. It's got the circle shape with no ridges, and the icon certainly looks like it could be used for that.

Yeah, that'll be my prediction for the day.

I've been looking at the "Powerup" templates for awhile now and i've come to realize that they all relate to a different part of the body (Minus the two head objects).

In the presentation, we say Gev take the handle and attach it to the drill, and he could aim it and use it like the paintinator. So what if each of the different pieces allowed for a different way to "hold" a powerup? The boot-looking template could be used for power-ups that are based on movement or the use of your feet, and the headgear could be sort of like the creatinator. Obviously the handle works like the paintinator, as does the gun looking thing. I'm really curious.

Not really sure what the face means in that same menu. If I had to guess, I'd say it's a bugged icon and they use sad sackboy faces to portray the error.

I've noticed that good grief has been moved to the pause menu.
Preview mode with select/touchpad?

That could be it, although the touchpad is already used for your pop-it cursor. You wouldn't be able to go into preview mode while your pop-it is out.

I'm not quite sure what else Select could do on the PS3 version though. Maybe it could be given a screenshot function so that it's kind of similar to the PS4's share button.

Oh!
I remembered now that in E3 it was confirmed that we could use the Vita to use the Paint tool!

Also just saying the E3 Trailer had a section with toggle walking into the background on a treadmill it looks like, maybe that has something to do with the infinity levels category

But what if a PS3 player is playing a PS4 level with it used? I thought levels were shared on the server. Unless there are PS4 exclusive levels after all.

I really hope that is true i will be able to take my animated levels to new heights especially with all this great new logic. I can't get over how many new features we are getting in this game.

It may be a 'bendy' corner editor, like if you make two points, it tries to follow the existing curve of the shape.

It could just be like the move pack where levels that use certain features warn you beforehand.

I think that is "Underwater Walk" tool.
Hey, you said about Collectabell? I think it's some kind of special Collectables, with special prizes or bonuses.
