Littlebiglife 2 - Point Insertion

Archive: 6 posts

Ok everyone, I have been working on this map for a long time now and am happy to finally have it finished.

My level is less about action and platforming but more about trying to complete as close a replica as the first chapter of half-life 2 as possible. Quite a lot of the content is custom made (unfortunately i released it before when it was unfinished by accident and i think someone may have used some of it )

I would like any feedback on it and am prepared to give feedback to as many levels as i possibly can. My only worry with this level is that i feel at some points it can be quite bland and any help on fixing these parts would be great (especially when first entering the apartments as i needed long stairs to get high enough - sorry).

The thermometer is nearly completely full so i will be able to make some small changes if you guys think it is necessary. Thanks for anybody who plays it and any feedback you guys give me.

You should make the prizes avoidable, just in case people don't want to pick them up.

And why would you offer an "Aced Level" gift, if it's impossible in your level?

Here is my mini review:

Pros:

I liked some of the custom set pieces/stickers, like the bearded face and police officers. The story and dialogue seem well-planned. It seemed to be clean and bug free.

Cons:

I thought it was a little too empty, and could use some platforming or challenge of some sort in between all that story. You may want to mess with lighting and some backgrounds to try and set the atmosphere. I don't know if it takes a half-life fan to understand the story, but i didn't really understand exactly what was going on Just too simple. If your items are not AMAZING! or just downright cool...it is always best to keep them out of the way. These items cause bugs in folks' profiles which is very BAD! i personally tend not to replay levels with these unnecessary items given away, since i have to go into my moon and delete them right away, since i've already had the bug once!

Overall: 3 STARS because it is basically the shell for a level which has a lot of potential. Nobody can tell you exactly what to put in there, but it does need more of something to make people come back for more. I suggest some fun platforming(since it doesn't have to be too mechanical. Make people leap, dodge, run, or shoot their way out of SOME kind of tricky situation, because thats what keeps folks want to keep going. Good luck, and be sure to let me know when you update this!

If you get a chance, please check out my new level. it's in my signature.

I never played Half Life but seem to stick to the story very much. It's a little to simple though. You ignore most of the speech bubbles since they don't say something that is important for the level. Kind of defeats the purpose. You never have to read what the people say to solve a riddle or something.

The atmosphere, as xThaVIOLENTonEx said, lags some depth. Just darken the level a little and use lights. That's the simplest and best way to enhance the presentation.

The gameplay could also you some bits. You just walk and walk and perhaps jump a little. Nothing special what could give the level a thrill.

ok so in terms of items should i just add 2 or 3 that are not things such as AND gates? and also place them out of the way so you don't have to get them?2009-02-21 20:09:00
