My 3D works!!

Archive: 16 posts

Hello! I'd just like to share with you some of my 3D artworks. These are my latest works, and are taken from my deviant art page. I made these for my 3D demo reel that I then showed to Lucas Arts Singapore in the hopes of landing a job as a character modeler... unfortunately they told me the character modeling position is as of now closed (either that or they really thought I sucked eggs and just had to find a less trauma-inducing way to put me off).

I'm a Maya and a Zbrush-user. XD Just wondering if there are any other 3D artists in LBPC?

Wow these are incredible!

Great job and very well modeled. Im a beginning modeler but i dont have a computer near even near what I need to flesh out. I created a pretty accurate and detailed Machine gun in Maya, but definetly not in the same league as what youve got here,

Thanks, everyone, for all the kind comments!

I love Silent Hill. XD I guess that's where the inspiration came from.

3D just takes a while to get good at. I've been in 3D for a couple of years, and I'm still nowhere near as good as the "real" artists out there.

And as for the ridiculous amounts of detail on these models... well, actually not all of them were achieved in Maya, but in a nifty little software called Zbrush. This is as easy to learn as it is powerful. In this software, it is easy to make a lot of detail because you basically just "draw" the detail on a piece of clay. So if you can draw really well, and even if you're not very good with a program like Maya, it will be even easier for you to make a highly detailed model.

I guess, aside from Zbrush, all you need is a pen and a tablet, and you're all set to create your own masterpieces.

Cool! Let me first off say your work is awesome!!! The eyeless dude is quite something and I could easily see it scare the crap out of me in a game

Second, thanks for the tips, I've been thinking about getting into some 3D work and that Zbrush program sounds interesting. I purchased a Pen tablet recently and it's wonderfull, would love to use it in other programs as well! Did you take courses to get started, or did you just play with it till you figured out things?

Thanks!

Zbrush I learned by myself. I guess you could play around with it, but you'll learn faster if you watch tutorials and visit forums. There were some free tutorials in the Pixologic Zbrush website before. I haven't visited the site in a while, but I'm sure they're still there for free download. They teach you the basics, and once you've learned the basics, you're all set. Truth is, I didn't really use many advanced/complex techniques to create the models I posted above. So anyone can make cool-looking characters even if they're not experts yet.

As for Maya, I learned Maya it at school. It's a bit harder to learn by just "playing around" with it, and more intimidating. But you'll get the hang of it with the right materials (again, tutorials and forums). It would also be cool if you had some friends who could teach you personally.

You can create your model from scratch in Zbrush. But another technique is to first make a very simple model in Maya. This will have no details, just the basic shape of the character. Then when that's done, I import it into Zbrush, and that's where I do the real detailing.

Anyway, hope I was able to help. Good luck!! Have fun learning 3D, I'm sure you'll be making great models soon!

Oh btw, you might want to check out another program called MudBox. That's kinda like the alternative to Zbrush, it's also easy to learn and just as powerful. And if you're a Maya user, it'll be even simpler, because they basically use they same interface.

Really nice graphics, Milo. I'm a total luddite as far as 3D is concerned - I do most of my stuff with good ol' pen and ink, and finishing in Adobe CS.

Nice designs dude.

I've been dying to do some Sackboy fan art for a long time now. I just need to find time. My new job isn't giving me much of an opportunity to do any extra-curricular activities, unfortunately.

It's not really my Maya. XD My boss in my previous job happens to be a really close friend, so he lets me work at his office after hours sometimes. That's how I got my models done. XD

Thanks so much! Well, I like traditional art as much as I like the more modern forms of art. I guess one of the reasons I turned to 3D was because I was never very good at freehand drawing. At the end of the day, however, I believe there are things 3D can't accomplish that traditional 2D can, and vice versa. I also believe that the two should work together instead of against each other... some of the coolest works of art are a result of a combination of the traditional and the new.

Fantastic artworks! I love the huge amounts of detail onto these. My favourite is the dragon one. I'm guessing it took you ages to make these. Anyways, keep up the good work!2009-03-14 09:25:00
