LBP3 and Shareplay

Archive: 20 posts

So for those of you that didn't see Sony's Gamescom stream they announced a new feature for ps4 firmware 2.0 that allows your friends to join in your cooperative games via the web even if they don't own it. Need a hand acing a level? Pass the controller virtually to your friend. The only catch is you need ps+. So, this could be a massive feature for lbp3 as it is one of the best couch coop games around. It might also really help grow the community as essentially it would be acting as an ongoing demo.

Think it's a good idea, especially if a friend doesn't know if they want the game or not and can be basically a useful way of letting them demo the game and can potentially help achieve more sales. I can't see anything really wrong with it it's basically as if the person was there beside you playing the game.

Well I'm excited. I've got friends who would probably never buy lbp simply based on its looks so this might be a way to tempt them.2014-08-12 20:29:00

Well, with this feature I'm sure it's safe to say that this will be the bonus for having PS+ which means those without it would still probably be able to play online normally. Though this is certainly tempting me to get PS+ along with a lot of other things... I'll break soon enough...2014-08-13 17:33:00

Yep I think they said it was for PS+. I'm not sure if it's just PS4 or you could do it with PS3.

from what they said in gamescom about farcry, it seems that you are limited to inviting a certain number of friends in (for farcry I believ you had 30 invites? please correct me if i'm mistaken) so it's not as awesome as I'd originally hoped when reading about the share features of ps4, but still pretty cool.

I wonder if it works in an unlimited sense for friends who already have the game though.

though I guess they can just log on and come join you... just would have been pretty cool, if you had trouble creating something, 'hand the controller' to your logic wiz / musician / other imaginative buddy and let them show you how.

time will tell!

Me too!

This could also be useful when you stuck in a jam between mulitplayer areas or you need a friend to create a level just for fun. I might use this when I get a PS4 someday, This is really a nice tool to use in LBP3!

Farcry isn't using this system as it, to the best of my knowledge, does not have same screen co-op. Instead, that game is giving 10 keys to all buyers in which their friends can try a two hour demo of the co-op campaign. This system would work with lbp as in the majority of the game you share the same screen. Basically this is old school split screen gaming but over the web. For games that do not have coop you can let friends assume control as long as you are logged in and playing the title, so they can help you with tricky parts or if you simply want to let them play.

The best way to think about Share Play is like a “virtual couch”. PlayStation 4 will create an online local co-op experience by allowing you to invite a friend to join your game—even when they don’t own a copy of it. With this first-of-its-kind feature, you’ll be able to play games with a friend just as if you were together in the same room. Let’s say that with games… you’ll be able to invite your friend online to play against the Miami Heat for the championship as the San Antonio Spurs in NBA2K, tackle the challenging Towerfall Ascension Quest Mode together, or aide, heal, and protect you as Igniculus in Child of Light’s local co-op mode.

With Share Play, you can even jump into a game to assist a friend. For example, if there is part of a game that you can’t quite finish, you can invite a friend to take over your controls. Like handing over the controller to a friend on your couch, your screen will be shared as your friend gets through the part of the game that has been giving you trouble—can’t get past that part in The Last of Us: Remastered when you’re [spoilers removed]? Get a little help.

I think Shareplay is a nice feature to have, but I don't see it being used as effectively on LBP compared to a game like FIFA or Call of Duty, simply due to the 60 minute sessions its available in.2014-08-16 23:58:00

I can't say I have any friends like that considering I met 95% of my friends list through lbp.

Firmware 2.0 releases this Tuesday and so the revolution begins.

Here are some videos to show you exactly what Shareplay can do. At last we won't have to struggle for hours to get that illusive bubble and passing control over to a friend to ACE your level is now possible (Thank Goodness). Bubbles that require two players will be a breeze. Need an experienced creator to help you finish some complicated logic for you? Just let them join for an hour and give you their 'undivided' attention. Note that once the hour is up, you can still invite them for another hour, and remember, they don't even have to own the game!

So if I don't have the LBP 3 and I have a PS4, someone can invite me to the LBP 3 from my PS4 and we can do some stuff? That's awesome! I only need a PS4... 2014-10-24 23:51:00
