Why Glitchers Are an Important Part of LBP

Archive: 26 posts

hey guys, its ultimatben... Yes the person that is working on finding some brand new glitches, and i just wanted to say...

Glitchers are an important part of littlebigplanet.

non-glitcher: but you don't report them!
Glitchers do, but nobody at sony cares about patching unless its leaked to the public...

non-glitcher: But you guys break the game for fun.
Glitchers break the game, but as i said before sony couldnt care less about fixing it if we tell them about it.

Glitchers are important, imagine if spawnpopcancer was found by a glitcher, and not by that idiot who gave a tutorial...

if the LBP1 god glitch was revealed... Oh god, i bet most wouldn't even be able to do it due to the fact that it is an extremely complex glitch...

I hate it when everyone treats glitchers like scumbags, they try to help the community by getting rid of these horrible glitches, if we tell lbp staff about them, nothing. The best thing to do when they cannot get it patched is. Keep it to themselves, then the community is like.

-----------------------------------------------------------
Reveal the glitch bro,
Tel me lbp1 god glich bro i wont abuse it.
Omfg your such losers u break the game
I found a new glitch were drk mater is invasible
------------------------------------------------------------

Is it just me or glitchers are underestimated... Just because they glitch doesn't mean they suck at other things.

I can't wait till day 1 of LBP3 where glitchers will find out how broken lbp will be, hopefully sumo will listen to glitchers and patch it. Unlike sony.

Fun fact: Every glitch i've found wasn't what i was trying to find...

I'm sorry, but this simply is not true. I helped uncover a bug once which broke profiles but nonetheless we reported it, the issue was solved and the developers were extremely grateful.

The accepted definition of a glitcher in programming terms is somebody who exploits coding flaws to gain an unfair advantage. The only way these things are ever harmful is if somebody intentionally releases them which would simply not happen if people did not intentionally try to break the game and publish the results for fame... you can't say it doesn't happen, just search glitch on lbp and you'll get a couple thousand levels and many of them will break profiles. I've seen way too many friends lose everything as a result of these "glitchers"

When did you report that glitch, 2011? That was when the developers cared, and actually fixed the bugs. Im a little sad to see they really don't try anymore, and just fix little bugs in patches...2014-08-11 17:00:00

I'm sorry, this is pretty much a duplicate topic that was already discussed to death and finally locked. You didn't make your case there and I don't see any point in a Round 2. 2014-08-11 17:07:00

Hello all!

if we tell lbp staff about them, nothing. The best thing to do when they cannot get it patched is. Keep it to themselves

This in essence is the crux of the issue!

We all take the smooth-running and reliability of LittleBigPlanet very seriously and any substantial reports that are sent my way, are forwarded to our QA team to investigate and resolve. (Most of them are!)

If you send a bug report my way, you will often get a response asking for as many details as possible on how to reproduce the bug, so that we can work together to crack down on the bug as quickly as possible!

Unfortunately, whilst there are lots of amazing and awesome folks in the community... (And you folks definitely rock!)

Many will instead ask for Free DLC (Beta Vest, Bug Blaster, Crown, etc...) in return or otherwise choose to keep the information to themselves because it makes them feel like they have a special power that they don't want removed from the game.

Now... Here's the issue...

When given the very rare opportunity to run a private beta test with our LittleBigPlanet community...

Ask yourself this...

Am I more likely to invite the aforementioned awesome folks that have previously assisted us greatly in resolving a bug or am I more likely to invite those that have a known track-record for keeping such important information to themselves?

We have plenty of folks in the LittleBigPlanet 3 private beta that are greatly experienced with discovering glitches and I've every confidence that myself and our dedicated fansite teams have picked just the right folks for the job!

In the meantime, if you do encounter any issues with LittleBigPlanet.
You're always welcome to report the issue to us at hello@littlebigplanet.com for further investigation!

We appreciate all of the genuine reports that we receive regarding gameplay issues that are otherwise causing you to have a negative game experience!

Thanks!

I think a ban is a bit harsh. The user has been silenced and I think that's a bit of a stretch but the mods have deemed it the correct course of action and I suppose it is a warning of sorts.

Well, he's just kind of expressive, but Ultimateben, you have to realize that there is way more than 1 cause that went into why people got hand picked for the beta, you and your glitchers mentioned didn't get in like the majority of us

Seriously though, think these things through before coming in so headstrong on a mis-shapen goal

Thanks!

I tried to report a serious LBP2 bug to you but it seemed like you started ignoring me after we sent a few e mails to each other about it. I said the glitch would spread to thousands of players and it did. Many people deleted their whole LBP2 profile because of this glitch called 3D disease or the dooms day glitch. The glitch was patched after it became a huge problem one year after I tried to report it to you and I know I was not the only person who reported it. It did not seem like you tried to work with me to crack down on that bug as quickly as possible.

Glitchers are underestimated. The people who are known for finding glitches in LBP are the best at doing it and should not be ignored. Also glitchers do not just try to find harmful bugs. Glitchers have made MANY amazing and useful level building tools and tutorials for the LBP community.

Against my better judgement, I can't help but respond to this issue.

Honestly, you all ought to be ashamed. For one, Steven is a community manager, and unless I am mistaken, he is not a programmer or developer. All he can do is relay the message to the appropriate party. Once the information has been delivered, it is out of his hands. On top of that, it takes time and money to actually fix the issues that you all apparently take so much time to find and report. It doesn't necessarily mean that they are ignoring you. It may be a case that the issue cannot be resolved instantly or they just don't have the budget to invest the time to fix it. It may take you a day or two to find the bug or glitch, but it may take exponentially longer than that to actually resolve the issue, and get the patch ready for the public.

Secondly, I'd seriously reevaluate the reasons why you are choosing to spend your time to help. If you are doing it for some sort of immediate recognition and accolades, then I can almost guarantee you will be disappointed. I've given them feedback, and sent it off into the abyss, with little or no idea if my efforts were helpful or not. Am I going to get upset and assume they just aren't paying attention? No, I will not. The way I see it, if there's even a small chance that my advice and suggestions can serve the greater good, then so be it. I will benefit, and so will everyone else. Besides, it's the developers that are going to be doing the vast majority of the work, and it's going to be their money that they will have to spend to implement these improvements.

Personally, I find recognition much more gratifying when it is not asked for. If you do good things for the sake of it, recognition will eventually come. Perhaps they actually do appreciate your help and feedback. However, complaining that you aren't getting what you feel you deserve makes you come across more than a bit self entitled. A trait that many will find as a complete turn off. I'll guess that most people will think less of you for whining, as opposed to the way you choose to use the game or the title you've chosen to give yourself.

Just something to think about.

I thought this was locked?

Was it opened so Steven could respond? I understand but I think it needs locking again as there isn't anything else to be discussed and it's detracting from other threads in this sub-forum.

It was re-opened to give everyone a chance to be heard (including Steven)...I think the air needed a little cleaning. It's been a busy couple of weeks for the staff here with the beta announcement and tensions are running a little high.

That being said, I think this topic has just about run its course, so it might be locked again soon to avoid any more bad feelings.

I think you hit the nail on the head.

When we were approached to suggest people that might be a good fit for the beta, the top criteria generally were people who are mature and active in the community, there was no agenda of excluding any group of users...we have a nice group of people comprising various talents and skillsets and we're proud of our selections.

What? You aren't related to Sumo Digital or Media Molecule, why are you saying "we" instead of SD?

Same here, in fact, I am the *known* founder of the infamous "copy moon levels" glitch. Back in what I consider LBP2's heyday (2011-2012), I discovered it after noticing a programming overlook. I've reported the exact method to Sony and anyone else I knew that worked for LBP, and that included StevenI. Then next thing you know, someone finds it and leaks it. They get moderated.

Soon after, someone by the name of (please don't name names) found it, thought it was how people copied levels from famous creators, posted it in an attempt to notify players on how to stop copiers, and got famous for it. It was up for around two years or less. It is now no longer on his earth, thank God.

I've not seen any levels or posts anywhere with someone explaining the method, but my point is, it had the potential to completely screw up the game. It still has not seen a patch in which the glitch is fixed, because the developers refused to listen to me... *sigh*
