Final Sack-tination 1

Archive: 6 posts

Well, here's me with another level. If you've ever seen the Final Destination movies, I'm willing to bet you'll enjoy this level.

Go into it with your sense of humor on your sleeve though! This level has some hard parts, but don't be scared .. it's not as bad as the people in the movie got dealt ... or IS IT??? Try it and find out!

This level can be very hard to play with over one player, unless you go into the level knowing that in certain areas .. one of you .. is going to die lol. There is no way around it really, it was made for one player, but to be honest, it is OH SO funny with more than one person.

I seriously crack up everytime I play this level .. so I hope you get as many giggles out of it as my son and I do .

Here are some pictures to give you and idea of what to expect .. and again, I apologize for the wonkiness of them .. evidently lol .. I just can't take good pictures with this camera MM gave me lol.

As I will mention in all my review threads, I am more than happy to return the feedback favor .. but I must warn you .. I am extremely detailed in the making of my levels .. and I'm brutally honest on top of that.

So if you can't handle constructive critisism in all it's beauty .. I'm probably not the person to ask for feedback lol. I do, however, always try to give out tactful opinions tho .. so don't expect anything rude or obnoxious from this sack girl!

Just link me to your thread and I'll drop your review in your thread!!

I don't know if you're aware or not, but there's a hole in the plane between the first and second rows of seats. I fell in it by accident, and straight into the gas below.

Also, I'm not entirely a fan of forced deaths, but the part where the plane explodes was well done.

The moving things below the ground in a few places look a little... out of place. Maybe you should consider moving them out of sight.

Also, I wasn't sure what to do at the rollercoaster. I died part way through the ride (I somehow got squished or something before the thing went upside-down, which I somehow doubt was intended). After that, I couldn't get the other cars to get very far, since the first car was stuck in the small dip during the upside-down section. I also seem to get "stuckish" when I respawn at the last checkpoint, when the sign comes down. I noticed the elevator coming down where the arrow on the sign it pointing, but I don't see any way to reach it.

Second play, I made it here, though, I found it odd that the coaster never derailed, after making so much emphasis on it going to derail. After that though, I had no idea what to do in the elevator thing. There looked like there was some dark matter stopping it from going upward, which I assume is where I was suppose to go.

I liked the look and feel of the level, but some of the things around could stand to be executed a little better. I believe that rubber would be a better choice for the wheels of each coaster car. That might make things a little less rickety (then again, I'm not sure, since I've never fiddled around with something like this before). This was probably the cause of my random death here. Sadly, I never finished the level, so I can't say anything about anything after the elevator part. I'll probably keep trying and edit this post later if you haven't replied by then.

Nope, I did not know that was there lol. I don't see how you got in there either .. I couldn't make my sackboy go back there. I had to take the plane apart to find what you were talking about lol. But it's fixed now, thanks!

Also, I'm not entirely a fan of forced deaths, but the part where the plane explodes was well done.
Thanks! I worked hard to get that plane just right lol. Well, it's not always a forced death, it really just depends on where you grab, and if you hang on the entire time or let go. Kinda like in the movie, your life is in your own hands .

Yeah, I realized that after I got done, and now my thermo is baked and I can't really do anything else to the level. When I go into edit mode, it yells at me "you're screwed" lol, and I can't find anything to delete that I feel would be more beneficial to remove than those being seen.

Yeah, unfortunately .. that is a 1 in 5 shot sometimes. I can't figure out why it does that randomly, sorry that it happened to you. I can play it 10 times in a row .. and sometimes all 10 times are flawless, and sometimes it happens every other time.

The check point shouldn't get you stuck, the deck is 3 layers thick, the checkpoint is on the back layer, and that sign is on the 1st layer, which leaves the middle layer completely open.

You have to jump up on the railing (I removed the top rail so you can just hop up there, then hop on the sign, then wait for the green platform to come back down (it takes a few seconds to come back down) and ride up to the top and ride the zoom bucket back to the roller coaster return platform.

Second play, I made it here, though, I found it odd that the coaster never derailed, after making so much emphasis on it going to derail.

Well, originally it had a way to do that, but the emitters (that put the blown up section of track back for the next ride) flipped my thermo out, so I had to cut that part out. There is, however, mention of a derailment (that supposedly happend right after you got off) if you stop by the consession stand (there is even a picture of it happening on the television).

I guess it's more of a "whew I didn't die" factor than a "omg, crap I died" factor (think of it as having cheated death, like in the movie).

After that though, I had no idea what to do in the elevator thing. There looked like there was some dark matter stopping it from going upward, which I assume is where I was suppose to go.
It is supposed to stop there, the shaft "falls in" .. when you reach the top, the middle section of the roof falls in (there is a section of the elevators window glass cut out to make it where you can see it, it actually will hit you in the head if you are standing in the very middle of the car) and makes a ramp for you to climb out of (like people have to do in movies, the "escape hatch on the ceiling of the elevator) .. once you climb to the top, the wall to the left dissapears revealing an air shaft that you have to climb through.

Rubber wheels, because of the speed of the coaster, tend to just break when the coaster goes upside down .. I pretty much had to use metal, plus .. since I had no choice I kinda liked the "rough" feel it gives (if you have a duel shock controller, otherwise I guess it wouldn't make much of a difference to you lol).. that lends, imo, to making you think something is about to happen (suspense factor) even though in the end nothing ever does.

I actually think the random death has more to do with where you grab onto the car, more than materials or design. Seems that if you grab on the back layer you tend to die more .. why, I dunno tho .. doesn't make sense .. and it's extremely hard to replicate.

Thanks for your review, I really appreciate it!!

This level was fun to play as a tribute to the movie but also to see what peril you?d set up next for the poor characters.

The airport was well laid out with a lot of small details thrown in, I like the breaking glass sound on the bottles in the concession stand, a bit of foreshadowing. The airplane was a good construction and I liked all of the chairs and people in them. It can be hard to draw up people for some people but your characters look well enough for what you need them to be.

I had some trouble grabbing on to the right chair in the airplane as the one I wanted was in the background and there were a lot of other grabbable materials next to, in front of and around which made this a frustrating piece. It would be cleaner if the free chair was in the foreground layer rather than in the back but this is a small thing.

The airplane crash was nicely done and I thought it worked out great. From where I landed I wasn?t sure if I needed to go left or right and I initially went left. I see a fireworks set up and I think that this was what was supposed to have crashed the plane but I didn?t see any fireworks when I was flying in the plane. (I?d need to do the level again though to see as I was originally ?oohing? and ?aahing? to notice fireworks.)

I also got a bit stuck on the falling tower section that comes next. Since the top of the tower was electrified I disregarded it as a danger and walked underneath it and over to the fountain. I jumped around here for a while before I concluded that there were no secrets to be found and that it was not the intended path.

Which only leaves the falling tower and from then on I could figure out the correct route. Flying and then falling through the high rise was a lot of fun, good implementation.

There are some good moments of perilous death until you get to the barn/shed/construction zone area. Inside there are the falling nails which got me so I went upstairs and had trouble up there. I thought that I?d need to jump out of the window on the right side but I was never able to get out. It looked like this was an exit method as there was a chute lined up just outside of the window. Maybe this is a joke in reference to the movie but as I didn?t see the movie I don't know about that. After banging my head against the unseen window for quite some time and not getting out I tried to go back down stairs but could not.

The stairs are in the middle layer and there is walk-able ground on the back and front layers so the sack person will not jump down into the hole as it just plane shifts to the front layer instead. (At least for me anyway.) No matter if I tried jumping into the hole from the back or front layers or ran at it from either side the sack boy would just plane shift and I could never go down. I had to suicide but once I did I was back on track and could exit the building from below.

The roller coaster was a fun set piece but with all of the foreshadowing I was a bit surprised that there were no accidents. (Though I did see your television broadcast and went back for a second ride. Weee.) There is an opening in front of the lead roller coaster carriage when it docks at the far side that you can jump into. (Jump on the hood of the carriage and then jump left into the hole.) It goes left for a bit, drops down and then goes right until you run into gas. I was expecting hidden bubbles or a collectable bubble but there was nothing. I liked the metal grinding sounds of the rollercoaster wheels, it gave a rickety feel to the coaster.

There is a long strip of level after you talk to the person about getting a ride that is very un-decorated and bare. It looks like a stretch of filler material that you didn?t know what do with. I like the shaking of the elevator a lot, I guess you built a rig to shake the whole section and it looks really good.

The car segment is also pretty well done but for whatever reason when I was told to get out of the car quickly nothing happened. I was expecting the car to blow up as there is some visible explosives under the car. I jumped out and forward and when there was no explosion I went back to investigate. When I moved a bit toward the rear of the car then that seemed to trigger the truck.

Otherwise it was a fun level to play through. There are some good sections in this though they seem to happen more frequently in the first half of the level, the ?death? sequences anyway.

I realized this after I got it all done and let someone else play it, but now I would have to completely rebuild the plane (which took and insanely ridiculous amount of time to get right), since (I'm assuming it's a glue glitch) if I detatch anything the whole thing falls apart. I can't figure out how to fix it either .

Any suggestions (besides taking the plane apart lol) are greatly appreciated.

The plane actually (according to them ovie) has a bomb or something inside it and it explodes shortly after taking off.

Also, there the scene where the guy gets msushed by the falling piece of equipement, just before that a box of huge fireworks falls over and shoots at the characters .. the fireworks were supposed to kinda be like that.

I also got a bit stuck on the falling tower section that comes next. Since the top of the tower was electrified I disregarded it as a danger and walked underneath it and over to the fountain. I jumped around here for a while before I concluded that there were no secrets to be found and that it was not the intended path.
Yeah, I've been wondering if I need to de-electrify that part. I liked the way it looked, but was afraid it was going to confuse people in the end. I suppose I really should undo that part.

hmmm, I'm not sure why the window didn't fall out for you. There is a piece of glass in the hole that should fall forward as you come through and slide down that chute. I'll have to check that and make sure when I published it again it didn't glitch and glue shut or something.

The roller coaster was a fun set piece but with all of the foreshadowing I was a bit surprised that there were no accidents. As I mentioned above, there used to be a section that wrecked, but the emitter caused my thermo to go bonkers, and I couldn't save .. so I had to remove it all together . That's why I put the free fall there, so there was something else fun to do instead.

There is a long strip of level after you talk to the person about getting a ride that is very un-decorated and bare. It looks like a stretch of filler material that you didn?t know what do with. Well that is basically you walking through a parking garage to the elevator. With my thermo so full (and the back ground layer, from the parked cars above) I couldn't really add anything else there, except the graffiti stickers. Sucks I know .. I'm just not sure what would be beneficial to remove from the level, so that I could add something there.

Maybe I need to speed the truck up then .. or make it harder to get out of the car?

Otherwise it was a fun level to play through. There are some good sections in this though they seem to happen more frequently in the first half of the level, the ?death? sequences anyway.

Yeah, lol that's because I started to run out of thermo, and whenmost of my things operate on emitters .. that thermo is my enemy for sure!

Thanks for playing my level .. if you have one you want me to review let me know, that goes for gameguy too. Just let me know!

I just added a few special features to this level. I was able to gain a little thermo space by swapping out some materials used, and I took out a few minor details that I'm almost certain no one will even notice lol.2009-03-05 06:48:00
