Sticker Question!

Archive: 10 posts

How many stickers can be placed in one level before new stickers resets old ones? And how do you get rid of the sticker glitch? I am currently making a level with a lot of stickers and the edges of stickers are turning black and such. As far as I know, I have the sticker-glitch syndrome. Is there any cure for this?2014-08-08 08:29:00

Not sure if there is a limit on amount of stickers, I know for a certain object there is, but the whole level, I don't believe so(though I've never used nearly enough stickers to do worry about that, so I may be wrong)

Also on the sticker glitch an exert from This (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=73706-Artistic-Levels-without-Lag)

Choosing Stickers and Decorations
Stickers are less of a concern, but still don't use more than needed. A few large stickers are preferable to a multitude of small ones, up to a point. If a sticker is too large you may encounter the "sticker glitch" - where the edges of your sticker turn crazy colors. If this happens check to see if it's there in Play mode and if so, make your sticker smaller and use more copies.
Move Paintings (Paint Tool from Move Pack) can be made small, medium, or large - which is a pretty big chunk of thermometer space. So far as I know, Paintings are no different from Stickers in terms of lag. However, if you place too many large paintings they may not render properly and appear pixelated.
Some decorations are more complex than others, and so take up more thermometer space and potentially cause lag. For example, the Cherry Blossom (Spring Creator Kit) takes up a lot more space than the Sakura.
Animated decorations, like the Cream Handkerchief, can cause lag if you have too many close together

And this

I employ most of these techniques in my own levels, but I've gotta say that the downside to using sticker panel/felt in place of materials is the horrible sticker bug that's plagued the game since lbp1 and still remains unpatched. You say a few large stickers are preferable to many small ones and while this may ameliorate the lag situation, the larger the stickers (and the closer they lie in proximity to each other) the higher your chance of being hit by the sticker bug.

For anyone wondering what sticker bug I'm talking about, its where the edges of materials dont display the sticker properly and instead cycle through various stickers that have been used elsewhere in the level. The best solution if this happens is to extend the edges of the affected area to hide them behind another piece of material or out of camera shot.

The problem is that I cant hide it, or focus out the camera. And I cant change the edges. I still need a more water proof way of curing this disease.2014-08-08 09:37:00

When theres too many stickers in general they start to disappear.
The only thing I can suggest is deleting some stickers or use a less panned out camera if possible.

What I did was use the Slice 'n' Dice tool. This was when I had no clue how to fix it.. But, after enough cuts, It did seem to solve the problem.2014-08-08 16:29:00

The amount of stickers is limited on objects, not by how many are in the level, the only limit for stickers in a level is the thermo and lag.

The only things you can really do to prevent sticker glitchyness is minimize the amount of stickers you use, minimize the amount of stickers in one area, don't make them too large, minimize the types of stickers you use(stick to the same stickers if possible), and minimize the camera zooming in/out

Seems like it was 150 on an object.. or maybe it was 100? ..and what Bremen said. 2014-08-09 13:12:00

Hi Blacksakman, I haven't had a chance to be on in a long time.
As JW says, the limit to the number of stickers on an object is 100. (I believe that 100 is the general limit in everything-eg.. 100 stickers in pod, counters and timers have a max of 100, logics can only have 100 ports etc).
To fix the sticker problem, I'd limit the stickers you have to less per object (maybe a max of around 20 or 30 instead or even less.)
Heres a few hints that may be of use...

A. As Bremnan said, bring the camera in closer in an area with a lot of stickers (The less stickers visible on screen at once the better).

B. Any objects with sticker on you no longer need could be destroyed to reduce the numbers of actual stickered objects on screen at a time.
The Hazzard warning symbol for broken stickers appears if there is 'too much' on screen at once, so by removing unneeded stickered objects,
it can lessen the sticker amount. THeses no limit to the amount of stickers you can have , provided they are on different objects, its just how
many are actually on screen at once... anything over 100 causes problems)
C. An other thing you may find is that stickers may cancel each other out if, say, a stickered sticker panel object with 80 stickers merges with
another stickered sticker panel object with 30... rare, but to be aware off.
D. My best suggestion is a rebuild of the stickered items you have but rework the stickers.... Heres how....
Say for example you have a stickered mouse (sticker for body, tail, head, feet, sticker object eyes- that's 6 stickers used),
Lets make that one. Remove the eyes for a minute. Now, take a snapshot camera and take a picture of the mouse. Now you can delete all
the sticker parts that made him up. Replace them with the snapshotted photo of the mouse. Now your only using that one sticker.
Replace the sticker object eyes and your mouse looks the same (except hes now made up of 3 stickers instead of 8.
This idea of making an image out of stickers then taking a smapshot works great for complex backgrounds especially.

Long I know, but I hope it helps
