LBP3 Public Beta? I know you're reading this Steven...

Archive: 23 posts

All jokes aside I feel like there should be a public beta, but you can only download it in a week, and it's active for 3 weeks. That way a bigger mass of people would get to test the beta, squash bugs, and help out, while the players get a sneak peek at everything! It's a win-win! :3 (I know you can do it, come pretty please?)2014-08-07 14:01:00

The problem with Public Betas is that is gives the player a "try before we buy" can kind of roll. This can drive many players away if they don't enjoy the game, and lose the devs some money. And I'm sure it takes time ans resources to make a demo or a public beta. And also, if the Beta doesn't show off the best features of the game, a poor beta for a great game, that too can drive many players away from spending ?40 to buy it. Private Betas are much better, because they only include massive fans of the series, people who most likely won't be driven away. But, I can think of a few games I almost missed out on due to a bad demo or Beta, Mass Effect 2 had a terrible demo in my opinion.2014-08-07 16:22:00

Problem here is that it isn't Steven's decision

but I don't see a problem with a public beta

Another issue is that dedicated players are needed because there are those people who just play the beta as early access to the game and nothing more. The purpose of the beta is to find present bugs and glitches and resolve them before the game's release and like mentioned before, it can drive people away if they find it to be too buggy (Which is silly). If there even is going to be a public beta, I imagine it wouldn't be for a while but the chances of one anyway would be unlikely.2014-08-07 23:42:00

As much as I love this idea, it's not a good idea. As others stated, people would just play the game and not report any bugs. If I remember correctly, LBP2 had two betas, so maybe LBP3 will have two betas as well and you'll be able to get into it.2014-08-08 03:46:00

well, maybe there will be alternate ways to get into the beta? like random chances to get a code if you post a comment on some thing, codes you gotta haul *BEEP* to redeem, etc.

(i feel ya bro, i really want that bug squasher costume for some reason lol, my life sucks.)

I don't like it, could drive down hype. Public beta could ruin that, Casual players would take it as the full experience and might not buy it. Devs + More Money = LBP4.2014-08-08 04:17:00

Private beta 4 lyfe. I don't think it should be public, public betas might as well just be demos because no one actually reports bugs. With a private using a handpicked list you won't lose customers because the players are already dedicated enough, and you'll see beta results because the players are the dedicated ones who really care about the game.2014-08-08 05:14:00

How could it drive down the hype? If you get a little taste of it, then you will be dying for more! The only way it could ruin the hype is by having the beta be bad (which it probably won't) And hardcore fans like me who love the franchise will definitely buy the game, even if the beta is bad. And for the people who download the beta but don't do anything, there will likely be a smaller ratio of those people than the people actually looking for things. Ex. If I had the beta, I would try to look for bugs in creative, because there would be endless amounts of logic bugs on the moon. I'd then look around in story mode and see if you could fall out the map/mess with the logic of it. Then I'd see online play (if there were any) and try to squash bugs with things like freezing, excess lag, sticker and decoration glitches, and pod glitches. I don't know anyone who would just waste such a good opportunity to help fix a good game.2014-08-08 09:41:00

Just look at the number of people complaining about the LBPK beta being broken. It got a bad rep even before it came out. Could even be that at that point Sony decided to cut their losses and spend as little as possible to get it out the door. If all those bugs would have been fixed for the final product it could have been a brilliant game (even if create mode is a little hard to get into initially).2014-08-08 11:56:00

Like I said before, Betas and demos cost the devs time and resources. I sure hope they don't do a public bet, I know many of my friends who have now changed there mind of buying Destiny on day 1 release because of its beta.

A public beta wouldn't be a good idea. Instead, there should be a less private beta.
Like a second round of invites, because I really would like to play the beta.

lWell LBPK was trash from the start!(laughing noise in the background) Jk, but I just want there to be a public beta, like lbp2 had. (im not sure if they did, correct me if im wrong.)and lbp2 was a great game. And im sure it wouldnt take THAT much money and time. I mean thees already a private beta, so all they'd have to do is make the download public.2014-08-09 07:44:00

No, there was no public beta...
Later some ps plus members were invited, but not all...

And in december after delay and god glitch, Steven gave the last beta codes to the community...

I totally agree with your idea but if everyone has access to the beta it wouldn't be fair for everyone especially if they never played the game.

who's to say that after the private beta there won't be an open beta?

Small groups can be use to focus on specific testing points, but a larger group later down the line could be useful to test server load and randomness.

A beta isn't the completed game... hoping that it will be a sneak peak of the final product that comes out in 3 months (a guess) is pretty hopeful.

I would expect that it is just now stable enough to download to a non-Dev PS4 without a fear of breaking everything. You only want a small selection of people to play a game in this state, otherwise you get a slew of 'reviews' that talk about how broken online is... etc... well duh. It's a test to see what needs fixing.

As it becomes more stable there may be a wider selection of people to then upload more content and see if any last final funkiness is found.

I have seen others suggesting that only Stevens friends and famous people get it, which is a silly suggestion.

Lets just go with 'mature, active LBP community members, that are invested in the play create share aspect, are testing'. Which is fantastic really, it's a group of people that really want to see the game do well.

I agree. There were two waves to on getting in the LBP2 beta: 1) Whoever was in the LBP1 beta, could get in. 2) People who subscribed to PS Plus and bought a certain amount of DLC could get in. I hope that's what the developers do for the LBP3 beta.2014-08-13 22:51:00
