Duskvale (Working Title) - A Hack 'n Slash Fantasy RPG

Archive: 6 posts

For years and years I've wanted to make a real RPG in LittleBigPlanet. It's only been done properly a few times ever since the release of the second LittleBIGPlanet, with levels like Sealed Fate pushing the boundaries of what was thought to be possible by fans of the few and far between LittleBIGPlanet RPGs. I attempted such a thing once, around two and a half years ago I began construction of a level known as "Trial of the Faceless" featuring a seldom seen inventory system that impressed many, especially at the time. However, the project was beyond me at the time. Trial of the Faceless never got the story mode that fans demanded, despite universal acclaim as a survival game. as time passed, I again sated my hunger for fantasy with the likes of Dungeon Break, an animated, retro styled dungeon crawler that became my most played level. And then, they released the memorizer. Years had gone by since Trial of the Faceless's conception, and my ability to handle complex logic had grown vastly. With the release of the memorizer to LBP to, I got to work (After briefly getting my feet wet with a quick little level "Expand")

I began building the RPG that I'd written so long ago. I've been at if for just over two months and my progress is coming along nicely. So nicely that I feel I can share what I have thus far.

The Overview:
The prologue begins with a young woman awakening on the one year anniversary of her father's death. Her mother, who had been a near legendary figure on the battlefield died many years previously, with her death being shrouded in mystery.
Now living alone in the small village of Holcomb, our hero sets out to visit her parents' graves. But things are not as they once were. The dark creatures of lore have become increasingly prevalent in the once peaceful area around the village, and the time will soon be at hand when this young woman must follow in her mother's footsteps...

The Features So Far:
Full Memorizer capability, including:
- a complete inventory system with weapons, armor, and talismans, components, and miscellaneous items
- crafted items from base materials that can be mined from rocks or cut from trees
- Five skills (Attack, Defense, Magic, Resistance, Crafting) that cap at level 49
- Player level that earns you points to increase skills and caps at level 999
- Scaled experience system using signal division to reduce the amount of EXP you get from enemies as you level up
- quick travel between maps that are loaded and unloaded via emitting and destroying
- A merchant system to buy and sell your items
- Nonlinear, open styled gameplay with optional areas

The memorizer capability means that as chapters progress, you will be able to save your level and items and move on to new adventures in other levels.

And that is just about all. I'm planning on updating this thread as I progress, but as of now I'm looking to start the Alpha within a week or so, Beta within a month or so, and the prologue release within a few months.

Let me know what you think!

This looks super super super super super super super exciting! An RPG that can stand up to Sealed Fate has yet to be made in my opinion, and I will be looking forward to updates on this.2014-08-04 20:07:00

This reminds me of the Elder Scrolls a little--which is great. While I do think Sealed Fate is the best RPG in LBP2 currently, the memorizer allows us to do so much more with role playing games in LBP and I really hope you finish this. Of course, I will be around mostly for moral support, but its great seeing someone putting a lot of effort in an RPG. 2014-08-05 23:31:00

I agree about Sealed Fate. Easily the best level ever made in my opinion. I don't pretend to believe I can top it, but I draw a ton of inspiration from it, along with the RPGs I've loved be it Neverwinter Nights, Champions of Norrath, Morrowind through Skyrim, A bit of Zelda, The original Final Fantasy, Fire Emblem, and probably numerous more I'm forgetting...

By the way, spoilers work like this:

Text

You have a [spoiler=Name]Test[/spoiler/]

Except without the very last slash, which I just put in there to stop the formatter from working.
