Trouble with Tribbles

Archive: 6 posts

My attempt to pay homage to an old StarTreck episode. The music and the effect, (you will know it when you see it) were made by the most amazing tabycatmeow. http://vita.lbp.me/v/jne5g2014-08-04 17:51:00

Hello smartsloan!

I played your level today and...... I thought it was awful.... I really didn't like it. Sorry.

I'll begin by talking about the things that I did like (there aren't many things that I like though, unfortunately.) I thought that the rotation illusions were pretty cool. I'm impressed that someone could re-make that in LBP, and the illusion actually works!... kinda. I also thought that the obstacle where the blocks are moving in and out around two platforms was an interesting idea, I liked it.

aaaand that's all the good things I have to say about this level..........

Okay, now for the bad stuff. I think that the touch controls to fire the creatinator was an odd choice. I prefer using analogue sticks and buttons for something that's fast paced as shooting a creatinator. Also, the creatinator in this level is near broken. The creatinator will kill Sackboy randomly without warning when shooting it. This made the level incredibly frustrating and hard to play. It happened mostly when Sackboy was near a wall. Also the music is terrible! The first piece of music in this level is the Star Trek opening music (which is fine and sounds good) but the music that starts when the actual level begins does not suit the futuristic sci-fi theme at all!! It's a face paced song with saxophones and guitars constantly playing power chords! It's a sci-fi level!! Where's the synthesizers!!!! Also, Foster the People - Pumped Up Kicks also doesn't fit the theme at all!! It also completely ruins the immersion!! If I'm in the future, I don't want to be listening to old music from 2010!! I want to be listening to music from the future (or at least some original music that fits the theme!!) Furthermore, the music is really inconsistent! Whenever Sackboy respawns, the music either changes or stops completely and it's really annoying. Another small annoyance is that the captain's messages don't leave the screen and stay on the screen until the level finishes. This blocks a part of the screen out and is pretty annoying.

The final boss is also terrible. It's just a larger version of the normal enemies that you can't even hurt. Also, it looks terrible. Itt eyes are clipping into its face and its mouth is just a really sloppy white sticker.

I'm sorry, but I can't give this level higher than a 1.5/10...

Hey i gotta say thanks for the honest critique. OWWW it stings but I have to agree. Its funny how you never really see something until someone points it, out synthesizers in the future! Of course! The level is meant to be retro sci-fi, the original episode aired in the sixties, plus the last Ramone died so "I wanna be sedated" was a shout out to the handful of folks who know who the Ramones are As for the Tribble they were pink and round so I stand by them, but everything else, I totally agree. Ultimately this was a level to showcase Tabycatmeows music and effects, I wish I had done them justice. Ah but the good news is bad can get better!2014-08-05 14:29:00
