Buck: The Plot Chickens (http://lbp.me/v/qssrvky)
A pointless cautionary tale of social hegemony.

It's been a while since I actually made a half-decent platformer thing, so I wanted to make something different. Something out of the ordinary. Something that didn't use the stupid 'temple horn' noise to synchronise with any environmental movement. So then I thought I'd do something utterly stupid and pointless, and thus Buck: The Plot Chickens was born.

The narrative revolves around you, the intruder of some decrepit futuristic warehouse full of electrical traps, consumerist propaganda and a maniacally creepy bunny rabbit avatar who stalks you and confuses you to the point of existential crises. You'll be wall-jumping, grappling, and occasionally squinting at the television wondering why someone would make such a confusing level. Then you'll realise it's just utterly pointless and carry on with the adventure. I mean... mysteries to unravel, right?

Anyway. This level took a while to modify because I'm constantly looking for reasons why it's terrible. But there we go, I finally finished it, thank goodness. I would like some feedback for possible future alterations... so, yeah. Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy!

I played it. I didn't know how to feel. I guess that means you did a good job. But I'm guessing.

The main thing that stuck with me was how there were prize bubbles and floating eggs that seemed impossible to reach. At other times rewards were handed to me by being directly in my way with no way to avoid. I thought about this afterwards (the level touched me like this). Was this deliberate? Was the act of placing unreachable prizes and bonuses beyond my grasp a comment on how contemporary LBP creations all seem to have secrets and rewards? Was I supposed to see these and blindly struggle away for hours with no hope of succeeding? Was I supposed to weigh up the effort at getting a reward against the time required to complete the action? Was I supposed to cynically scoff at the prize and just blunder on? I didn't linger too long but it seems to me that some of the bubbles were impossible, like, walled up or out in the open past an impossible lethal barrier.

The rabbit was sinister but ultimately could have been absent and the gameplay would have been no different. Am I right? Another comment on lack of plot or character development?

Some things I'm sure about: great visuals, slick platforming, much attention to detail, cohesive use of materials and objects and colour palette.

Please talk to me. Am I normal? Am I old and jaded? Should I be?

Existentially yours,
Aratiatia.

They were very reachable, just grab the lights, grabbable materials and layers to your advantage.

I loved this level because of certain reasons I will not spoil. It is also very fun and pretty, and the music is superb.

Haha, point noted. Every prize bubble and egg, like bonner said, is reachable. The level is some kind of social commentary concerning doing things against your own comfort for ephemeral self-importance. I tried making the difficulty of reaching the prizes diverse, but it's doable! To the point where it seems impossible, though, that's pretty great. I may have done a decent job. Existential crises, yay!

Dumb prizes and knick-knacks aside, thanks for the review. I would suggest having another blast at it, but on the other hand I suppose I may have taken liberties with the collectables. Should they be easier to snatch? We'll see. We'll all see.

EDIT: You're pretty much right about the 'bunny rabbit' avatar, too. 'He' really doesn't do much apart from lubricate the in-betweens of each gameplay section with emotionally fluctuating quips and words of detriment.

Excellent piece of art of a platfromer! I liked how many bubbles seemed impossible to get but you could ultimately figure it out (I think I missed just two of them). The characters were funny (kinda reminded me to the spooky bunny of Virtue's Last Reward) and the challenge top-notch, great fun! It reminded me a bit as well of the chicken level of the Cross-Controller pack, but with your own style.

That ending though. :arg: Such a clever plot twist I LOL'ed so hard

Yay and heart from me!
