This is the first of a series of levels I'm working on. Finished series will have 4 levels with the Fairies and 1 final battle against Abyssia. Each fairy has a color/material theme to the level. It's pretty easy gameplay I think. My goal was to make them look as lush and pretty as possible. Also - I wanted to try to work on how to make a "boss" character. I'm still learning a lot but I'm happy enough with the levels so far.

This is a "green" level. Very earthy and wild. I had a lot of fun doing the gas monsters and the Mountain goats were really fun to develop. The final boss dragon took a long time to time correctly. I know the plasma isn't terribly dangerous in terms of where it goes and the timing of it but it's more for the sense of danger than danger itself.

Hope the community likes it. (It's getting tagged as annoying by 13 year olds... ) As always - feedback is appreciated.

Thanks

Seeing the video, looks be a great level! Loved the logo in the beginning and the model are very well done. It's a multiple ways level, that makes you play it several times to appreciate it 100%

Didn't see the whole video to not spoil the entire level hehe Definitively i will play it!

No worries on the English Sometimes mine isn't so good either - and I'm from Wisconsin.

Just wanted to make it clearer - there's only the 2 spots that are multi-path "ish". The level is part of a series of separate levels. Didn't want anyone to be disappointed if they are looking specifically for multiple path levels.

Thanks for the comments too Tomasoares. Hope you like it.

That was great, really, really, great!

I loved the whole atmosphere, everything looked great!
The characters where wonderfully made, you had a great use of stickers. I love using stickers for my characters too.
The title for the level looked really good, very detailed and easy to read.
It has a story, which brings a level way up in my books, because a level without a story, is like a PS3 without a TV, it just don't work!
The platforming was good, especially with the multi-path thing.
I loved those rams! They looked awesome.
The boss at the end, wasn't hard, but still awesome and fun! And it wasn't just a 'hit the brains and -BLAMO- it's dead' type of thingy.

At the very beginning, if you walk to your left, you see a random wall, with a cliff. You might want fill that area up so you don't see the nothingness.
That's everything I don't like about, and it's not much!

I absolutely loved that level, and can't wait for the rest of the series.
Hearted and 5 stars!

Great Job!

Played the two parts some hour ago. Wow, didn't understand why it has only 3 stars, this level is great!

Loved the boss at the end of level, very well designed. He isn't hard, but is fun to kill. The method used is very interesting!

The story looks to be simple, but really good, remembering the first Spyro games (with those fairy and crystal things)

Enemies are great! The green thing you can use to jump to the higher way and get some bubbles and the goat has great design although (hope this is the right word >.<) is easy to kill him.

The multiple-ways part are very well done, and makes, like i said in the previous post, you play it several times to discover the entire level xD

There's a bug in the two parts where's the evil fairy appears. When you are on the same plane as her, you can fall to the hole that she appers and go "outside" the level. Can be easily fixed putting some gas in the hole.

Loved it, 5 stars and heart!

Thanks for the great feedback! I fixed the cliff to nowhere part and will add some gas to the hole. I didn't even think that you could fall there - my bad. I'll have it fixed and re-published very shortly.

Glad you enjoyed it and yes - the three stars is confusing me too. I guess too many people think it's too simple. I don't design them really hard because if it's not fun to play why play?

EDIT: I added the gas so it's not so much trap as if you fall you don't have to hit the retry. Hope this helps.

I had a chance to try both parts last night, here are my thoughts on this one:

I immediately thought your logo set the tone for the level, it looks amazing. The choice of materials is just perfect for it but I wish you did not use those ugly story stickers from story mode and instead gave the same treatment to the word "chronicles" as the other two words. It is a very minor thing but I think it would just add another layer of polish and beauty.

Your fairy NPC's look incredible and rank amongst the best I have seen in LBP. Your sticker use here to decorate them is truly amazing and inspiring. It's one of those things where the player should say "hmmm, I never knew I could combine stickers in such a way to create my characters".

I liked the detailing of the rock in the foreground. It is very subtle but really adds to the visuals. The green monster guys looked great, especially their two vampire teeth lol. The branching paths on the mountain were a brilliant idea which also made sense and the goats were very well made. I love nice custom content and your level had a lot of it

The design of the dragon was really nice and I liked the way you had the plasma shooting at different levels to make it seem more "organic". The switch combinations here were very cool and unlike anything else I have seen before. I can tell that a lot of thought went into this area.

Overall I thought this was a great fairytale that I really enjoyed playing and I immediately jumped into part 2 upon finishing it. 5 stars and a heart on BOTH levels (I also have you hearted as a creator) and I will try to leave feedback on part 2 soon. I hope you continue the series, I am a big fan

Thanks for the high praise! I'm really enjoying making the series and I'm really trying to keep them fun, pretty and interesting.

I'm taking some of the earlier comments to heart and trying to make parts of the future levels a little more difficult but I'm not sure it's one of my strengths. I'm really glad you like them and If I can find any more space in the thermometers I'll try to get rid of the stickered "Chronicles" area. Both parts (1&2) have maxed thermo at the moment - I'll need to see what I can do.

Thanks Again for you review - It really means a lot.

People will always give you subjective opinions (such as making your level harder), but some of these you need to take with a grain of salt. Now, keep in mind - I'm a hard core gamer. I like difficulty. But even I can appreciate levels like this where different skill levels of players can enjoy them.

My personal, subjective opinion is - don't make future ones harder. I enjoyed them, and my 7-year-old enjoyed them. This is not hardcore subject matter - it's a fairytale. I love that there are some amazing looking levels out there that he can play through without getting frustrated.

And congrats on the spotlight!

Hey Morgana,

I actually played both of these a while ago and have been too lazy to type up my notes! But since Part two got spotlighted (shouldn't it be spotlit?), - congratulations on that btw, well deserved - I decided to get off my can and do my F4F duty, lol.

As I mentioned before (re Cupid's Temple), I'm a big fan of your title style - It's very well polished (if lettering is even slightly off it looks amateurish) and packs a serious punch at the beginning of the level. The materials and positioning (using the layers) of the letters are very well thought out, and initiate the player into the level beautifully, giving a real feeling of anticipation - the 3d effect gives a sense of fun.

The next thing that hit me was your custom characters and creatures, which are very impressive and give the level (and it's sequel) character and flair. The multiple routes are also well implemented, and the design of the layers gives a sense of perspective and depth - it feels like a very large mountainous space in which to explore.

The Dragon was very cool, nicely built with great attention to detail in the surroundings.

Overall a very well put together and beautiful level, with excellent lighting effects and attention to detail. Not overly taxing, but nevertheless a lot of fun to play through - I'd been playing the rock-hard contra levels just before and found it very refreshing, lol.

There was a slight glitch in the boss cavern - the first button didn't come out of the ground at first - I had to waggle the switch a bit. It did come up eventually though.

Playing through all three of the levels so far, I must say one thing, and one thing only - they are incredible. I could write a fine review about the series as a whole, but I may as well stay on-topic and firstly discuss my thoughts on this particular level.

Entering the level for the first time, I can honestly say that I was absolutely blown away by the environmental detail, from the undoubtedly pretty logo to the fantastic boss scenario at the end, using a location which many would seem to be rather unpleasant and turning it into a scene which is unequivocally beautiful and brilliantly designed. The multiple pathways that you have used also adds a lot of replay value to your levels, however, it is easy for one to just run all the way back after completing one path and then taking the other for easy scores. Not that I would ever do that...

Anyhow, if I may resume I would like to comment on the boss at the end. There's no doubt that it has been very well constructed and I love the way you have given it properties which allows it to move just like a snake - really well done. I just have one quiery though, and I am sorry if I do indeed sound a bit stupid here, but what were the functions of all the switches you placed in this section? I pulled and pressed them all but saw no significant change to the area which would help me (I assume) defeat the boss. But anyhow, that doesn't matter, I still completed the level.

Overall a well designed level with many elements to occupy one for quite some time, one of them being the fact that you can appreciate what a great level this is. Five stars.

Glad you like it I tend to go for eye candy in my levels so I love hearing that people appreciate them for their "pretty factor."

The switches in the dragon's lair do actually serve a purpose. If you don't touch anything and try to go get to the dragon, you'll be faced with four blocks of rock that make it really tricky to get into the second plane of the level which is where the creature brains are located. You'll also have to jump over some gassy pits to even get to the stone blocks. By grabbing the green sponges it lowers platforms that cover the gas pits - 1 obstacle down. Then throwing the switches raise up the buttons that take down the stone platforms. I suppose I could try to put a cut scene in there to make that more apparent. Do you think that would help explain what to do and why more clearly or would it just mess up the flow?

Ok I played Croma Stone Chronicles Part 1

+ Very nice banner at the level's start, to start the series off, though these chew up valuable therm space IMO
+ The "OR" arrows were a real nice touch
+ The mountain goats were great
+ Clean level to get through
+ Good sound, atmosphere, and lighting
+/- Fairly good story telling
- Wasn't sure what the red buttons before the dragon were actually doing
- Needed more score bubble secrets
- A little short

Definately a great experience overall and I've bookmarked the 2 sequals for play later on. Wish we could bookmark an author though because I want to remember that you have lots of levels out there.

Audio = 4
Visual = 4
Funfactor = 3
Overall = 4 (and a bookmark)

5 stars, Beautiful, Hearted, cannot wait till CS4. Only problem was that there aren't usually switches in dragons lairs!

Nope - no problem at all But then again you have MAD LBP skills

It's rating has improved since then. I think I was just feeling a bit hurt over all the annoying tags I was getting. I'm sure they weren't all younger players but as a "cranky adult" I just jumped to that conclusion.

forgive me?

J/k

Tbh, I can't blame you, it IS people my age ruining it for everyone, what can you do? :S

For example, my friend, fairly smart guy, thought putting a ROFL sticker on a bear, and calling it ROFLBEAR was funny. Once he came to our house, and he wanted to build a giant rocket. It's stupid.

Greetings,

I suggested this series to my girlfriend who was wondering if I knew of anything cool to play. I was doing some other stuff while she was playing LBP, but decided to sit down and watch once she loaded your levels. Glad I did.. I enjoyed watching as much as she had fun playing them.

Great visuals.. great lighting, wonderful use of color that really engages the player as well as the watcher in my case. I found it to be wonderfully pleasant with beautiful scenery that really conveys the magic of a fairy tale land.

Not terribly hard game play, but as CCubbage mentioned, I don't think you would want that in this series. I feel it is more of a stunning fairy tale adventure. By that, I mean the level is such a treat that it would be a shame not to be able to complete from being ridiculously hard.

..hope that makes sense!! Then again, I should probably refrain from typing late in the evening.

Anway.. wanted to return your kindness of checking out my level and repay my F4F debt to you. ..and I will also be playing this one on my own in the near future!

Thanks again!

Aww....I saw this thread title but couldn't see the end and hastily assumed part 4 was out....couldn't find it in game and got sad.

number 4 is about 60% done. Work and Spotlight have been eating into my create time but I am committed to getting it done. Couple of weeks max. I don't want to rush it. There are some teaser photos in the gallery on my profile page if anyone wants a peek. After #4 is done I'm hoping to have a #5 level showdown with Abyssia. I've got big plans for that one - hope I can pull it off.

Thanks everyone for their interest and kind words. I know they are easy to play and I'm trying to step it up a bit in #4 now that there are infinite checkpoints, but I don't think I'll ever be as good at challenging game design as a lot of the amazing creators here on LBPC and I'm ok with that.

I'm late to the party as usual, but just wanted to give you my thoughts on Part 1.

morgana, this is stunning! No, it's not the most difficult level I've played, but it doesn't set out to be. What grabs me is the theme, the atmosphere and the feeling of 'being there'. I'm an old softy, and I was entranced. The sheer effort of colour, materials and stickers is a lesson to be learned by all.

I rated this 5* and tagged with 'Beautiful'. I have not hearted yet, but I definitely will when I play it again without the notepad! I know I'll enjoy it even more when I can concentrate on the level instead of thinking about what to say about it! I will also play the other parts later. Well done, and thank you!

By the way, I'm 39. Got a problem with that? lol

its odd how all of us (like 90%) here are either teenagers, or 30yr olds

no 20 yr olds..?

BTW, just a suggestion,

but when the series is finished, you can delete/publish them all, for chance at cool lvls.

I could always publish duplicates for Cool Level runs if I really wanted to I suppose. Haven't thought about that too much yet. Just gotta get 'em done first

LOL - 20 somethings have other stuff going on as a general rule. Us 30 somethings have a bit more spare time in general I think than the 20 somethings.... ya know, less school, less dating, less partying.... well, maybe not that. (There are always exceptions though)

Morgana, This is a fantastic series. I love the fact that my 7 yr old can play it also. The mountain goats are adorable and she fell in love with the fairies. We both like the entire look and feel of the levels.

Me being a little to curious however managed to get gassed after destroying the dragon. Went back after passing checkpoint to grab the plants there. lol that will teach me. Daughter thought that was funny.

The only nitpick I have (which is a personal one) is the visible pistons on your lettering in the beginning and on bridge. I don't know why but those (visible pistons, string etc. always bug me)

Overall I think this is a wonderful play for children, adults and together play.

Thanks! It seems to be a hit with kids. I get a lot of feedback from parents who play it with their children and I think it appeals to both age groups pretty well. I'm stepping up the platforming on CS4 but I hope it's still accessible for kids to finish. I'm really looking forward to the final CS5 where I think I'll have all four fairies and the White lady all together at the finale. Should be a colorful and fun little setup.

I'll look at the pistons - I did these before you could turn them invisible so I may have missed a few when I went back to tweak them. Thanks for the heads up on that!

Glad you liked it and thanks for playing it and giving me some much appreciated feedback.

Hi Morgana25. I just played this level and here are my thoughts.

I really liked the story line, and the rhyming in your speech popups (nice touch). I also liked your Queen and Green Fairy designs, as well as the mountain goats, which had a certian appeal. Your stage design had plenty of detail and fit the theme you created very well. I'm a heavy duty gamer, so I found the challenges farly easy, and the level overall was very relaxing. Even so, I lost a few lives, one to the last pesky mountain goat on the highest path. I did, however, get my revenge.

I rated this 5-Stars, and Hearted it and you as a Creator. I can't wait to play the rest of this series.

And, I recommend everyone play this level...today...right now!

I actually sat looking at the title for about 10 minutes before I went further into the level...

Stunning.

Storyline had my interest from the start - perfect composition incorporating the colour of the scenery to correspond with the precious stone required to complete the task.

The method to bring down the wall, to clear the path to the dragon was brillia,nt as was the dragon itself.

I found this level extremely playable, visually beautiful and I thouroughly enjoyed it.

Hi morgana25! I've only just joined LBPC, and having just played your level, I hope you don't mind if I comment.

I thought this was a very enjoyable and attractive level. Instantly welcoming, it makes the player want to see more. Your opening title graphic was great!

The visuals were cute, but not too twee, and the challenge was cleverly set at a level where all the family could have fun and complete. Enjoyed the dragon at the end, too.

PROS FOR ME
+ Polished and very pleasant to look at
+ Endearing characters
+ Enjoyable to play with all the family
+ Good, honest fun!
+ Made me want to play the sequels, which I will do shortly!

CONS FOR ME
- Possibly a tad easy for 'hardened' gamers

CONCLUSION
Wholesome, harmless, and a whole load of fun, with family appeal and easily good enough to entice the player into searching out the sequels.

4*, Tagged with 'Beautiful' and hearted. Good stuff!

I blew through all four levels today in one go, and now feel I can make some definitive statements about my opinion of these levels.

For me, LBP is about creator attitude. I really don't care whether something is easy or ugly or difficult or beautiful, so much as I care about how much the level forces me to meet it on its own terms.

Chroma Stone does this consistently, and the Green Album (as I shall call it, making a mild Weezer reference) is an excellent introduction.

Let's start with that ginormous logo. HERE YOU ARE, IN MY CHROMA-HOUSE. RECOGNIZE. Thermo shmermo. This tells the player (especially when he sees it again in the other episodes) that he's playing a graphic designer's LBP. The first time I saw it, I just sat there and looked at it for a while. Also, the conscious decision to build letters, then use LBP's stock stickers for the word Chronicles, is equally telling. I basically avoid LBP's letter stickers like the plague, now that I know how to hijack font levels. Morgana's found a way to make the stock stickers work for her design, without wrecking her design.

The platforming is a breeze...and I'd agree with Ccubbage, I really don't care. There are people I can go to (*ahem*MIGLIOSHIN*cough*) if I want punishing-but-fair difficulty.

Can the rams actually hurt me?

The green dragon boss. Hmm. My only issue is the plasma balls. I was never in danger of being hit by them, ever. Right now, they serve as a sort of indication of menace - dragon WANTS to kill you, whether he can is another story. If you cared to change it just a wee, forcing people to ride those grabs through the line of fire in order to reveal the levels would make it possible to die just a bit more often.

The gem pickups...how does one USE a community object? I applaud you for making prizes, though. A lot of creators as far down the rabbit hole as you clearly are have abandoned community objects entirely.

Overall: this is an eye-candy, breezy-fun level that makes no apologies for what it is. 5 stars and hearted.

The rams, like the Earth according to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, are mostly harmless. They can squish and they can block the paths if you knock them over just right. But other than that - not very lethal at all.

Thanks for playing it and the great honest feedback. It is much appreciated.

Can you say amazing!!
To start off, the intro logo was EXTREMELY well made. I am very impressed! I've said plenty of times that what I love to see is details, and you are amazing at them. Even though is not my style of level I can really appreciate them. I thought that the use of the shadow lights from the ground was an excellent touch. It made everything seem "magical".
I'm gonna have to try that some day..
I was also kinda honored that you commented on the way I built my cave, because your cave and mountain system was crazy.. you use the layers perfectly to create different routes (which is gonna make me play it again). So overall, it was amazing.. I'm gonna play the entire series now..
Thanks for commenting on mine!

i liked this level alot. a very cute start to a nice little fantasy themed series. I liked the boss, and how the puzzle for defeating it worked. also, the open endedness of playing through demands that you playt again. liked that. nothing i didnt like. 5/5

but aside from that, i need an oppinion on one of my levels. you seem an appropriate oppinion giver, so i was wondering if you could look at my level called "HELP! creative issue involving faeries/fairies/fae" its an issue thats been really harmfull to my creative process. please help.
