Thinking of buying a PS4 would love feedback

Archive: 18 posts

Well since our dear Sackboy has decided to come out of hibernation and give us LBP3 I've decided to start getting serious about buying a PS4 so anyone who would like to tell me what they think of the system I would love the feedback. Give me the positives and negatives about the PS4 so I can decide what to do.2014-08-01 00:46:00

It's a pretty cool system.

You can easily livestream from your console, and share pictures and videos. I believe you also get more space to add friends on your PS4 compared to the PS3. I'm probably missing a few, but someone else can fill you in...

If you also get a PS4 camera...

Well more than this, but still...

I don't know if your an Infamous fan, but the new game has some cool features too. You controller can be used as a spray can, and you scan swipe open certain doors with the touch pad.

Surprisingly I feel it more comfortable than the 360 controller (and I was a 360 guy last gen).

Although, maybe it's because I got used to the PS4 controller?

Here's what I think, but I really haven't been able to play the PS4 much yet.
Pros:
- Controller: Feels nicer, love the smoother lines and R2/L2 triggers. Touchpad's pretty cool too.
- Graphics: Looks great, animations and games have felt very smooth so far.
- Share features: If you're into all that stuff.
- Console power: More powerful than previous consoles and games will continue to push the boundaries.
- Future: Piggy-backing off the last point, the future of console gaming is in the PS4 and Xbox One. Not to say that "last-gen" consoles are obsolete, but the greater deal of support will inevitably shift toward the current-gen consoles.

Cons:
- Main menu: I personally am not a fan of the start-up menu of the PS4 at all. Not my style.
- Lack of games: Currently the game catalog is a bit sparse, but it'll grow.
- Price: It's a little expensive and you'll need PS+. You do get the free games each month though.

That's about all I've got for now. Hope it helps. If you have any more questions, let me know!

I agree absolute, the controllers vastly better. For me because it's ergonomically better it accommodates for overly large hands.

The PlayStation 4 itself relative is quieter when running, a more seamless experience navigating the operating system, applications start immediately such as the PlayStation store doesn't load like it's predecessor and allows you to enter when playing a game, download are not limited to games without multiplayer like the PlayStation 3 and installs are preformed without the user needing to do so themselves, I can go on but I won't...

One big bummer for me as not many may know is, if you aren't connected to the internet you cannot view your trophies. This makes it difficult when I am trying to obtain a specific trophy for a game. I think this is because originally the console was going to be online only but they removed it, though they couldn't do so for the trophies networking. Additionally a game will randomly quit and ask to send a error report other times you'll just be signed out but neither of these 2 occur frequently.

- Lack of games: Currently the game catalogue is a bit sparse, but it'll grow.

To note such a insignificant thing simply because every platform ever manufactured suffered this fault after launch because it's new! Games will come but time is required, I got mine two weeks after it was released and though I have about 20 games and platinum'd or 100% about 15 or 16 of them I still frequently play, Killzone: Shadowfall especially though my PlayStation 3 is in use more as I try to obtain platinum's to free my hard drive. Now I'm off to platinum The Elder Scroll V: Skyrim and LEGO Batman 2, farewell!

It makes a noise even when it's turned off. Does anyone else get this? Try putting your ear to it.... can't be just mine!2014-08-01 09:33:00

Mine does not. How loud is it on a scale of 1 to 10 relative to the PlayStation 4 when it's turned on?

It's not loud per se, it's just a kind of "hum". If I put my ear to it I can hear it beeping. Even just standing close to it I can kinda hear it. It's not something you can hear from across the room or anything.

Off off or standby off?

Off off. If I unplug the power cable (ie off off off) it stops.

Get a PC - PC Master race.

I wouldn't get a PS4 if your expecting a ton of games on it. I only got mine for CoD, and that's all I play on it.

I agree... but those analogue sticks aren't very durable.
I've already broken the analogue sticks on one of my controllers.

Let me quote you from the holy book... The Argos Catalogue...

"180 Games in Development
- More than any other Next-gen Console including games from Naughty Dog, Media Molecule & Santa Monica Studios

500GB Hard Drive
- Which can be replaced & Upgraded

Remote Play
- Will enable users to stream their PS4 gameplay to their PS Vita system via wi-fi, freeing up the television for other uses

Supports up to 2,000 PSN online friends

Blu-ray & DVD Playback [no change from PS3]

Play as you download

Cross-game Party Chat
-Supports up to 8 users

Quieter than the PS3

The most powerful Next-Gen Console
- 1.84 Teraflops and 8GB of GDDR5 RAM

Up to Native 1080p Resolution
- & 60 frames per second"

And the controller speaks for itself.

Cons:
- Online Play now requires PS+ [except F2P Games]
- Still costs a fair bit of money

They use different rubber on the more recent controllers.

As someone who thought the Xbox 360 was vastly superior to the PS3 I have to say that I will indeed be going with the PS4 first. It appears to me that Sony have learnt from their past mistakes and added the best features of the 360 to the PS4 as well as improving everything the PS3 did wrong and right. Xbox One just appears to be a slightly improved 360.2014-08-01 14:04:00

I'm thinking of getting the Destiny PS4 bundle... not really too thrilled about Destiny but it seems like a god deal, plus I have the money for it on my amazon account. Whee.2014-08-02 19:18:00
