is it still worth buying?

Archive: 17 posts

Hi all, I recently bought LBP2 and am loving it. I finished the story mode and now playing with community levels and doing a little bit of building of my own. I never played the original LBP and was wondering if people still think it's worth buying, is there a decent length story mode and would it add any new materials, costumes etc to my LBP2 game?
Thanks for your thoughts.

It would add lots of new materials and If you have never played it, it could be very enjoyable. As for the community, you couldn't access anything online that you couldn't with lbp2. So if you would enjoy the story and like to collect more materials, objects, deco etc. Yes.2014-07-31 22:38:00

There are the goodies to collect such as costumes, stickers, music, objects and more in story mode. But other than that, I don't see any other purpose buying LittleBigPlanet 1 except the LittleBigPlanet 1 only levels that are good. Oh, and if you buy the Game of the Year edition you gain access to bonus community made levels only for Game of the Year buyers! 2014-07-31 22:43:00

As with all of the above, yes for the story mode but for the community I personally don't think so, the levels that are present upon effortless search are all copied and unoriginal levels.2014-08-01 09:42:00

Yes, absolutely. The community aspect isn't important but treat the game itself as a giant add-on. You can pick it up for a couple of ?/$'s and it will almost double the amount of content you have! Then you have a new story mode to enjoy as well. The Content-Price ratio is extremely high.2014-08-01 12:00:00

I'd say you should get it if you're looking for more materials/decorations/stickers/costumes. The game has a lot of stuff that's not in LBP2! 2014-08-01 20:17:00

I prefer the story mode in LBP1 WAY more than LBP2's. I don't know if it's just nostalgia or not, but I think it's just a bit more creative.

Also, if you plan on creating, I'd say getting LBP1 and getting 100% in it (besides trophies) is a must. A lot of the LBP1 materials and sticker can be more useful than LBP2's. I think it's definitely worth it.

At this point it's a full game of content for the price of a piece of DLC.2014-08-02 01:18:00

The game has its own special charme. Some people (myself included) even like it more than the second game...

If you are used to the smooth physics and brilliant graphics of the second game, you might be dissapointed, though.

If you never played LBP1. It is really worth it.

Like bzr said.. it is wonderfully charming and totally creative with the bobs and bits they use. Some of my favorite levels and in any of the story levels from any version are in LBP1. Maybe not the Gardens as it is quite basic for platforming, but it was to teach you how to be sackboy.

Plus the lighting was so freaking much better. There were some "draw jopping" incredible effects done in that version in community levels. You have to go by LBP.me or like visit the LBPC Spotlights from way back when to find them, but wow... Many of the best levels from that version just flat out broke in LBP2, or at least all the cool effects created in LBP1. All the rules changed with the new lighting engine of LBP2.

I have to agree with everyone else (pick up the original game to experience the fun Story Levels, but mainly to get prizes inaccessible in the sequel). However, just be warned, that although LittleBigPlanet profiles can transfer to the sequel, it doesn't quite work the other way around, from what I understand. If you make a profile in the original and then attempt to transfer it to the second, I think it will erase your progress that you've already made in the sequel. Just a fair warning.2014-08-11 20:49:00

i was at the same decision a bit a go... and while i like 2 more i think.. 1 has its charms... the animation its a bit different the play is too.. its interesting to see where it all came from.. so that why i got it... and it a fare bit more maddening.. more difficult with jump times and such.. but i got the GOTY in mint for 10 bucks.. and its interesting to see the origins.. it seems more whimsical and hand crafted then the second... i guess they both have their place..2014-09-07 14:18:00

This is a pretty late replay, but you still have your LBP 1 sack after your tranfer. So even after you trnsfer you can still go back to your LBp 1 to transfer more.

The community side of the game is completely destroyed now, but set that aside and you have a fantastic story mode, tons of materials to collect, plenty of fun costumes, great music tracks and hundreds of stickers and decorations, all for a very small price. Get it. 2014-09-28 11:07:00
