Imagine the Possibilities with RPGs!

Some of you may know that I love to create houses and apartments, and with LBP3, I'm going to love it even more! Imagine what we can do with our ideas, we can make our houses and apartments, just like real ones! With the new layers I am so excited to see what I can do on there. I think it would be cool to create a neighborhood of houses (if that's possible).

Something that idea makes me wonder is if you can make object transparent when you're behind them, and then make them go back to being opaque when you're no longer behind them.

House levels are not RPGs. They aren't. They're house levels, hangouts, call them what you will but they are not role playing games, because there is no "game" to them, They're just architecture. Not saying that there aren't some highly impressive house levels in terms of visuals, but for those of us who actually make RPGs in lbp, calling hangouts RPGs gets really annoying.

Ya, sorry. But now I'm starting to just say RPGs/Houses/Apartments. I mean, in a way they can be RPGs if people like join and play as a family or something. Buts that's the only reason I would consider it an role play.

Hi Sacky how's it going? Lol Just back from France and yes with 16 layers you could probably make back gardens and all and every little detail along with 3D FILMS and new logic probably!

There can be RPGs that only take place in houses. It doesnt have to have stats and stuff, it just will be less identifiable. Role Playing Games are a really broad genre and I do see how 16 layers could contribute to RPGs and well any genre for that matter.

I wouldnt say it makes them easier to build. 16 layers means thats 13 more layers you have to worry about refining and managing which could turn out to be a greater task than the three layers we have in LBP2. It will take more thought to the design and logic-depending on where your mind expands to. I also wouldnt say it expands RPG's capabilities more than the memorizer has or just more thermo in general. Quite a bit can already be accomplished with those two elements and I am more interested in new gameplay features and creation tools that will be offered.

That said, I do think theres a lot 16 layers can offer. Depth is a very important part of gaming and art. But remember with greater power comes greater responsibility.

I was just referring to not having to do the 3d glitch anymore . Also I have a feeling that the dephysicalizing and layer tweaks will be ported from vita which makes art so much easier to make. For those who don't know about the layer attribute, every material has an additional layer setting in their tweak menu which prevents flickering if two or more objects are on the same layer and place. They have 40 layers within in layer in vita which is more than enough for me

The new layers would definetly help to make rpg's in terms of detail but we do still need to look behind layers so we can look at all 4 walls of a house we might build. I hope they add 3D cameras which let you do that. 2014-08-01 02:28:00

Wow so many people have posted, lol. I'm too lazy to reply to everyone. But all I can say is I think, to me, the 13 new layers will be fun to mess around with. Especially with building houses, all your ideas and thoughts sound amazing. I really hope they add all this! 3D cams and such, etc. all sounds fab.2014-08-01 02:45:00

The only reason it bothers me having hangout levels called RPGs is because when I type "RPG" into the search bar on lbp, I just get hundreds of houses, when what I'm looking for is a game anywhere from final fantasy to champions or norrath to star wars kotor.

Otherwise I wouldn't really care.

Maybe if they had a genre filter in LBP3 where RPG and hangout were two separate genres...

What I plan to do is take advantage of new features to also give the player a bit more power in my free roam levels (like faster running speed, limited flight, etc.) I had always wanted to do that with my other levels but the thermo didn't take much of a liking to that.2014-08-06 20:08:00

I'm interested in this level stitching idea to make large open spaces with lots to see and explore. This along with the 16 layers could really achieve a huge open world with lots to do. The first thing I'll be doing with the 16 layers though is creating a motorway with 3 lanes either side with hard shoulders a embankment and a off ramp then watch my AI cars work their magic.2014-08-08 15:48:00

Level stitching will, quite possibly, be the best feature they introduce in terms of RPG's.

When I looked this up, I almost cried. After constantly battling the Thermo in LBP2, to say its practically gone in LBP3 is quite breathtaking. We are going to see some amazing projects stem from this.

OMG!
We have 4 versions of RPG:
-house/building
-hangout
-fantasy (You know, fighting dragons, collecting things)
-mixed (Hangout+Fantasy, House+Fantasy)
Creating THEM ALL will be a lot cooler. Tell me, WHAT CAN BE BETTER THAN 16 LAYER GIANT HOUSE?!
