how do I make an item float in the air?

Archive: 11 posts

I'm trying to make a rotating cog in the air, I've tried fixing a cog to a piece of light and dark matter with a motor bolt, but whilst it doesn't fall to the ground it won't rotate either.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
Also what do you use light and dark matter and holograms for.
Thanks from a newbie.

I don't think you did it correctly. Did you put the motor bolt on the center of the cog, then move it so its infront of the dark/light matter? You might have glued it to the matter instead. Make sure the cogs infront of the matter when bolting.
And as for what light, dark matter and hologram do, they're useful for hanging things from by string and bolts or just gluing stuff to them as they can't move. Except hologram, it starts moving when its connected to something. Those things I listed are not the only thing they could do though...

Since you are new, let's learn a few ways. Since this is LBP2, why not try using the anti grav tweaker at 100 and dampening at 100 and have that on a small piece of material smaller than the cog.

Or I think you can try a bit of holo and attach your cog via a motor bolt.

In you original way, that works like dark matter or you can take a small bit of DM and make super small and stick it to the material (what we did in LBP 1)

or... The Easiest way <<<<<<

try just an anti grav tweaker set to 100 and a rotator set to whatever and stick them on the cog. to have it move, set a mover on it and pick a direction. If you experiment gets a bit large with tweakers and other logic, stick it all in a micro chip and stick that to the cog.

halo lot is cool stuff!! can be used on lots of cool ways. I've used it as a thin layer to hold logic chips for wireless coded logics. You can play making animations with it... Lots of stuff!! Search the tutorials for tons of ideas and help.

Thanks to everyone for all the very useful ideas and tips. I appreciate all the time spent helping somebody just starting out in LBP, on what must be really simple questions to all the old pros out there.
I'll try all the different ways mentioned just to get a better idea of how different solutions work.
Thanks again.

As long as you connect it properly, the original way should work. Make sure it's not glued.2014-07-30 22:45:00

This way, if the player or an object bumps into the cog it will move off course and potentially float away. Using the Motor Bolt method will ensure that it stays exactly where it's placed.

Very true... I was hoping to show more options since they said they were new. 2014-07-31 19:29:00

And a free floating object might be desired in some cases too 2014-07-31 20:47:00

I'm liking all the ideas! They're just feeding my imagination, if only I had more time to play the game
