Japanese rock music video takes place in a LittleBigPlanet

Archive: 15 posts

Japanese rock band Beat Crusaders' latest music video, "Phantom Planet," takes place in a world we're quite familiar with: the LittleBigPlanet.

This adorable music video features the band members' faces stickered atop Sackboys, running around various levels from LBP.

Kotaku smartly points out that the band is signed on to DefSTAR Records, a division of Sony Music Japan, which may explain the blatantly promotional aspect of the music video.

That looks great! I love the fact that they took familiar LBP elements and made them "real world" objects through CGI... brilliant!!2009-02-20 07:12:00

Eh, I didn't like it in parts. The FROST* music video was a helluva lot better, even if it was man-made. Still, it's pretty good.2009-02-20 09:26:00

It was weird, seeing all these LBP items I see in the game - but out in the real world!
Awesome video

Lol, that's awesome. The CGI was very well done, although there were a few flaws in it... but that's just me being nitpicky.2009-02-20 11:52:00

I wasn't a big fan of the song, but I liked the video quite a bit. This was just down to it being LBP, and using it pretty well. 2009-02-20 14:20:00

The song was actually pretty good IMO, and the video was great.

Though the guitar at the end started getting rather annoying...

I second that! I just don't like how other people try to CG Sackboy... It doesn't look... err... right.

That IS brilliant. Only in Japan though. You wouldn't catch anyone from UK or US doing that! In Japan everyone will know what it is but here it is still well known but some people think it is a film! (my friend) 2009-02-21 10:01:00

They were only taking elements of the game from "The wedding reception" and before, with only one quick shot of the sherriff in passing. I beleive that's intentional as many people get stuck on that wedding and so would be more easily able to recognise the parts they showed. If they had, say, parts from the collector's lair, the "average" LBP owner I don't think has progressed that far.

I also believe MM officially had a hand in it. They were using MM made items, but they were rotating them and showing them at angles that are impossible for the current normal access in-game camera. The way they could get on top of the world and have near side or very low or high angle shots of objects says to me that MM were doing some of the work, or at least giving them access to their propriatory stuff to take their shots.

Once again, MM is cheating in create mode.

If you read the story it clearly says that Sony have signed the band through one of their labels hence the tie in with LBP.

I think it's so that the band can get more popular over LBP. Or maybe it's for both!2009-02-21 16:45:00

That was so sweet I think my blood sugar level just hit a peak!

Like you said Mongoose; Only in Japan...

It did remind me of a vid from years back I saw on MTV2, set entirely to an old psone classic called Vib Ribbon.

Anyone remember that one? I wonder if that band had a Sony connection too.

By the time I tried to view it the video was already removed from YouTube, but I found it here: Gametrailers.com - BEAT CRUSADERS Little Big Planet by AzureFlameKite for anyone still looking for it 2009-03-18 20:29:00
