Review League! (Requests)

[ATTENTION: INCOMING TRANSMISSION FROM THE REVIEW LEAGUE!] Greetings to all. We are the review league. We have only one mission, and that is to provide constructive, non-biased reviews to the people. We have constructed an ever growing team of reviewers from many locations, different backgrounds, varying ages, and near infinite styles. This review thread will offer you something that other review threads cannot: the option to request whichever member you wish to review your level. With this system, you will be able to select a reviewer that you feel will be able to provide to you, and other forum members, the most relevant and valuable feedback for your particular style. Each member has provided a number rating for the nine sub-genres that we focus on, corresponding to how much they like/dislike that particular sub-genre. Rating numbers range from one, being ?not interested? to five, being ?very interested.? Ratings have been given for the following sub-genres: Puzzlers, Story-based, Hardcore/difficult, Arcade, Music, Artistic, Survival-Challenge, Costumes and Tools. If, for any reason, you are un-clear about the nature of any of these sub-genres, feel free to ask questions. Each member of the review league has an easy to read display of his/her preferences. You may request any member when posting a level for review, or, if no specific member is requested, your level will be assigned to the next reviewer in line. Please, take a moment now to get better acquainted with our current line-up of reviewers. Dimo1138 Puzzlers-2 Story-based-2 Hardcore-5 Arcade-4 Music-4 Artistic-4 Survival Challenges-4 Costumes-1 Tools-3 I am 27 years old from West Warwick RI in the north eastern US. I have recently decided to return to school and now attend a community college with a focus on writing and philosophy. I am a HUGE fan of old-school games, the type I grew up with. I found myself with very little to do with this generation of video games, that is, up until littleBigplanet came out. I have used the tools available to attempt to serve up some super-intense old-school style platforming with some classic challenge. My personal library contains three full levels and two mini-games from my ROBO-RAMPAGE series, as well as two full levels and one speed run edition from my ROBO-RAMPAGE X series, featuring crazy paintinator action. I can be very critical, so expect blunt honesty when I write my reviews. Sackdragon Puzzlers-5 Story-based-4 Hardcore-4 Arcade-3 Music-2 Artistic-3 Survival Challenges-3 Costumes-3 Tools-4 Well, I got the game on Christmas (about 2:25 P.M. lol), and have been loving it ever since. It took me a week or so to beat the story levels, and then a couple more weeks to get everything. My favorite levels are the Bunker and Endurance Dojo. So far, I have yet to create a whole, polished level. I have two demos and two object giveaways, but I would say I'm a pretty decent creator. As for skill, I'm great at solving puzzles and I'm a great platformer (although I still can't beat Super Mario Bros.: Lost Levels, lol). I do have some pet peeves, however. 1) I don't like long levels with the Paintinator. There were great levels before the Paintinator, so why do people think they need the Paintinator for their level to be good? 2) Needless amounts of Point Bubbles. Make them a challenge to get. Don't put vast amounts of Point Bubbles just so people can get the 100x multiplier. A level should NEVER have the multiplier go up to 100x. Coxy224 Puzzlers-5 Story-based-5 Hardcore-1 Arcade-3 Music-2 Artistic-4 Survival Challenges-4 Costumes-3 Tools-1 Well, what can I say about myself that won?t make you all think I?m a loser who shouldn?t be allowed to review I?m 13 (nearly 14 if it makes things any better). I live in Beckenham, sort of South-east London and I have been raised in the same house all m? life. I have a brother and a sister, and my Mum and Dad are happily married. I have only had a PS3 since Christmas 2008, but I don't think LBP has come out of the disk-tray since I got it. I?m constantly playing it, trying to make great levels. So far I have only published two (both survival challenges) Whack-a-Mole and Swamp Rollers. I find all levels great fun, and I love giving my brain a challenge. Lil-Pingin Puzzlers-5 Story Based-5 Hardcore-2 Arcade-5 Music-4 Artistic-4 Survival Challenges-3 Tools-2 Costumes-2 I am a fast learner and love to learn new things. I have never done any reviews on levels for games, but I use to always do reviews for my aunts? students? papers and things like that. I am very observant, enjoy trying new things, and became addicted to LBPC the first night I was introduced to it. I love the game as well. I have not yet created any levels but will attempt to make one soon. I have watched my fiance, eviltikigod, create his levels, I currently do not have a job so that puts me at the house pretty much all the time with a lot of spare time on my hands. I am a very upfront, straight to the point honest person, and I also love to talk and write about things. GrantosUK Story 5 Puzzle 5 Hardcore 2 Arcade 3 Music 3 Artistic 4 Survival 3 Costumes 2 Tools 4 I'm 29, married, from Newcastle in England. I work as a joiner at the moment, I was a computer technician with a bit of programming added in years ago but had a change of career to keep myself sane. The only game I have on PS3 is Little Big Planet, I bought it cheap for a Blu-ray player and have since become addicted :-) I used to create maps for Doom, Duke Nukem, Quake, Half Life etc etc etc years ago and Little Big Planet caught my attention and hasn?t let it go. Maraz_Matari Puzzlers- 4 Story Based-5 Hardcore-3 Arcade-4 Music-3 Artistic-5 Survival Challenges-5 Tools- 5 Costumes-1 I'm 25, I live in Florida and have been raised here most of my life. I'm happily married, with a wonderful daughter, who has had the misfortune to be born with Cerebral Palsy. I'm a garbage man as a profession, and video games have been my hobby for as long as I can remember. When I first heard about LBP I was amazed on what they claimed to be possible... when it was finally released and I got to experience first hand what it could do, I was not disappointed. I remember when I first picked up LBP however, I couldn't even get a simple door to open, and now I've built very technical levels such as Super Color Shooter and Seeing RED. Even Manifesto Chapter 1 has many well scripted events. I've come along ways in creating. I love playing levels, figuring out in my head how it was made. Basically, I want to just have fun playing other peoples levels and try to give as honest a review as I can. Graygoose Puzzlers-3 Story-based-4 Hardcore-4 Arcade-4 Music-1 Artistic-5 Survival Challenges-4 Costumes-1 Tools-3 I'm 25, single and i work as a welder, I've been around video games all my life my first console was a Nintendo Family Computer and i consider my self as a gamer but not as hardcore as some people claim themselves to be.My genre of gaming is FPS and Action Adventure. For LBP, the levels that really interest me are Action, Platformer and Artistic levels and since i almost failed Math in High School, I doubt I'll make through levels such as Hobo-Wizard (no offense too is Author, tho i think its brilliant). with that said other Puzzlers that use your common sense and environment awareness are also to my liking. Now that you know our members a bit better, you may begin requesting reviews. Hopefully, the feedback you receive will help you to improve your skills, generate interest in your work, and provide new levels for you to play in the sub-genres you enjoy. Hey, that was really nice of you guys to review The Crystal Caves in Autumn! I"m glad you liked it so much! A few things I'd like to point out: the only reason our levels have the mechanics and looks at the same time are that I'm an art major and my husband, Catiers (larry) is an engineer (or fun-gineer, as he likes to call himself) I'm not sure that our levels would be anything without the two of us working together. I've said it a hundred times over: If anything looks cute in the level, i probably did it, but if anything makes you say "wow, that was a lot of fun!" it probably was ALLLL him. also, in regards to that tree section: We could NOT get the camera right in that area, no matter what, but at least it follows the first person rather than one of the people on the ground. anyway, I'm rambling. But I'm very glad, and very honored that you guys would pick our level to review first. I was going to link to the video, but apparently the video is like one minute too long for youtube oh well! Thanks again! ^_^ | 2009-02-20 13:51:00 Author: xkappax Posts: 2569 |
Ooh I'll submit my level for a nice writeup: Jack McSetback & the Buccaneers' Booty PSN: Wyth You can do my first level too if you feel like it . | 2009-02-20 14:58:00 Author: Wyth Posts: 263 |
These levels form a series, and the second level's story will make (a little) more sense if you play the first one. If I'm to request only ONE, though, I'd have to ask for a review of "Hobo Warrior". "Hobo Wizard" already has a good few reviews from back when I made it, after all. Anyway, the levels: Level 1: Hobo Wizard Level 2: Hobo Warrior Location for both: Around northern Europe. PSN for both: T20thoughts These levels follow the exploits of a sackboy caught up in a struggle between the Light Wizard and the Hobo Wizard. "Hobo Wizard" has you trying to get a magic wand from the Hobo Wizard, while "Hobo Warrior" has you exploring the Light Wizard's Fogtory. "Hobo Wizard" is a shortish level with a rather unique boss fight, while "Hobo Warrior" is longer and quite a bit more challenging. Both of these levels fall into the Hardcore and Arcade categories, though "Hobo Warrior" is more Hardcore. It's definitely doable, though, as long as you pay attention and use the safe spots given to you. Neither level contains the Paintinator: They're pure platforming challenges with a bit of swinging involved here and there, and of course with a rocket-powered boss battle at the end of "Hobo Wizard". | 2009-02-20 15:41:00 Author: Unknown User |
Ooh I'll submit my level for a nice writeup: Jack McSetback & the Buccaneers' Booty PSN: Wyth You can do my first level too if you feel like it . I call these ones! t20thoughts, I'll see if Dimo will review your levels. According to what you described, he'd be the most qualified. I call these ones! I've played them enough times to be able to write a review on them That is, if everyone else is fine with me doing this review? It would be great to hear a review of my newest level, it's called: Little Big ExciteBike! It's a tribute level to Track #1 of the original ExciteBike game for NES. I put a lot of time and effort into the level, so an honest review would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Maraz_Matari told me about your site (after I make this post I'm going to go nose around a bit lol) so I thought I'd pop over and get my name in the hat. I have 2 submissions, but I'll just post one now and I'll come back in a few days and post my other one, just to make it fair . Level: Resident Evil: Sackocalypse PSN: Linenman Location: off the coast of Africa (Atlantic Ocean) As the title suggests, it's a zombie level. It's based (loosely, but not toooo loosely lol) off the last Resident Evil Movie. It's best played by 1 player, but 2 coordinated players can definately make it through easily (I've done it numerous times with other people, both people sitting beside me and people online as well). There are many obstacles, zombies , and a boss. *edit* I'd like to request that lil-pingin review my level | 2009-02-21 05:14:00 Author: FabbieSack Posts: 88 |

Level: Final Fantasy RPG Battle Arena PSN: Snakeowns Location of level: Canada I've created a level based on Final Fantasy; well, it's more specifically a combat, but not a normal one.... I've tried to make a true RPG battle, it plays as a mix of something like World of Warcraft (with cooldowns) and Final Fantasy. You control your character with the sackboy. And yes, there are Melee attacks, Magic attacks, powerful Techniques, an Energy Shield and even Critical Hits! And of course a health bar with 140 HP you must deplete...if the enemy doesn't beat you first. The level is complete with a ranking system from "D" to "S" (although achieving "S" is extremely difficult, I warn you :kz: ) and a Prize Bubble scoreboard system; both are determined by the time you take to win the battle. I don't think there is anything similar in LBP, so I don't know what type of level it would be, but maybe "Arcade", just to orientate to the possible reviewer. | 2009-02-21 15:39:00 Author: Snakeowns Posts: 34 |

Hi, I would be interested in reviews of my Bearer Levels. I do not have any idea of which reviewer could do this, but i would be happy if a same reviewer could test the three levels. It is a serie based on The Lord of the R4ings. PSN: Takelow Titles: The Bearer - Part I : Incipit The Bearer - Part II : The Ring The Bearer - Part III : The Fellowship For some more details about these levels, there is specific thread for each in the showcase section of the forums (see link in the signature). isnt this the same thing like on gamefaqs?? o.o ( sorry for being of topic. ) Yes, the same thing is on GameFAQS, but Maraz, Dimo and myself where the most active reviewers there, and seeing as that board is slowly dying, we have set the same thing up here | 2009-02-22 09:33:00 Author: GruntosUK Posts: 1754 |
Well, Maraz has encouraged me to get my levels officially reviewed so here I am. Can "Little Big Galactic Frontier: The Icarus Project- Part One" be placed in the queue? It is a platformer, with story aspects and a lot of technical tools (although these are hidden from the player and ideally he shouldn't notice the technical aspects). Thanks! | 2009-02-22 14:19:00 Author: dcf Posts: 468 |
Wow, I'm so glad that you linked to here from LBW because I wouldn't have found it otherwise. I'd love it if you could review my level "[B]Rescuing the Monster's Child". My PSN is amazingflyingpoo. I really don't care who reviews it, but it's just a fun, creative level. There is nothing really difficult in it, but I think whoever plays it will enjoy it! I would like to submit my levels for review. My PSN i.d. is jedi_jeff and all my levels are on the north america continent. Last Train From Little Big City - Sackdragon seems like a good choice for this level's platforming and puzzles. Sac-Man - Lil-Pingin might enjoy this arcade type level. Mission Possible - Dimo1138 might like this somewhat challenging level. I don't have enough levels for each of you to review one, but don't let that stop you from giving them a try. I hope you enjoy them. Thank you for your time. Jeff | 2009-02-23 23:40:00 Author: jedijeff Posts: 33 |

Alright, graygoose dropped in on my intro topic and his tastes seem to go along great for my levels. For now, I'd like to get my newest level out there. It's called "Robotnik Owns" Give it a try and have fun! author: DSKEmilio <- your hero level: Robotnik Owns location: upper canada icon: Dr. Robotnik's face, as drawn by me. genre: light platform, silly humor, artistic level with a theme parodying an old cartoon. here's a poster to promote it! http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d135/DSKEmmanuel/RobotnikOwns.jpg | 2009-02-25 01:27:00 Author: DSKEmmanuel Posts: 12 |

I'd love for someone to review my Splat Invaders II: The Caverns of Splat. I'll let you guys choose who does it. I would PREFER someone who has played, or is willing to play, the original "Splat Invaders Saga" since this is a continuation of the story. Here's the kind of level it is: 1. There is a few areas in the level that may take a little practice - different mechanics than you would normally see. I tried to do some things that no one has done in LBP before. 2. There are several "arcade" areas. 3. At least 1 area that is not difficult, but is kind of an "action puzzler". Snakeowns, dimo took your level on and unfortunatly has been having some troubles this week. He has posted in our group and said the reviews will be up very soon. I played your level and enjoyed it, even though I was rubbish at it. It's all very technical and works really well. We don't miss any levels that are posted, I can promise you all. Maraz publishes a list of all the levels and from there we pick from them and review (unless someone has been requested in particular). We should maybe update a post in the thread so you can see where you all are. EDIT: The second post now contains all reviews in the queue, and who has taken them on. This should help with the confusion | 2009-02-27 21:38:00 Author: GruntosUK Posts: 1754 |

My submission: Level - Saw: Retribution Name - Arcas-X Icon - Guy hanging from chains in a green tint. The level's based on MM employees being captured and put in traps because of their negligence about patches. Took MANY MANY hours to make this and it suffered two level corrupts. Hello! Just found my way to this forum in search of feedback for my newest level! PSN: PlanktonPutte LVL: Battle Bugs My level is doing really bad so far and I want to know why. I spent so much time on this levels and it only got 2 stars. T_T I would very much appriciate honest feedback on it so I can fix it and maybe get it up to atleast 3 stars. I have no idea who should review it since I don't know how to place it in the categories I saw in OP. I guess I would describe it as a Action-sneaker. The paintinator is in there several times but I really tried to make it varied so you never keep it for very long. I spent alot of time making it look good and there is a story aswell, but I wouldnt call it artistic or story driven. | 2009-02-28 14:33:00 Author: Green Posts: 45 |

Looks like there is a line but cant expect anything without time haha. Please review my stage Blue Heaven Guild ch.1 Rest My psn is Laharlsama and the stage is on the US. just advice, the stage is storyline oriented and has a prologue stage that was meant to be played first to establish the background for the story. You don't have to play the prologue first, but it is recommended to get the full feel. Don't bother mentioning the prologue grade though because I am currently adding more content to the level (nothing that will effect the stage I asked you to review though) | 2009-03-01 07:30:00 Author: Laharlsama07 Posts: 39 |

Not to be impatient or anything, but where is my review?????? I posted it on page 2 (one of the first ones....and no review yet). And you have posted reviews of levels requested after that, so I assumed yo missed it. /cry, anyways I post it here again, the same as page 2. The level is complete with a ranking system from "D" to "S" (although achieving "S" is extremely difficult, I warn you ) and a Prize Bubble scoreboard system; both are determined by the time you take to win the battle. I don't think there is anything similar in LBP, so I don't know what type of level it would be, but maybe "Arcade", just to orientate to the possible reviewer. :kz::kz::kz::kz::kz: Hey man, my bad! Your review is up now, I'm sorry I made you wait so long, I've been having a very hectic week! A thousand pardons! | 2009-03-01 21:45:00 Author: Dimo1138 Posts: 179 |

Hi - could you review my Midnight Gold Run level? My first pick for reviewer would be Lil-Pingin, but whomever you deem fit for it. The level is quite short, with a brief story line, some puzzling, and a wee bit of platforming. I didn't fill up my therm and I thought about adding more to it, but the story was told and it was time for me to move on to something new. I've had some F4F help and implemented a few tweaks to make it better. It was my second published level and I learned so much about creative switch building and logic gates. It is sort of multipath-like in that my main NPC says different things depending on your path/actions. There is also one "hidden" prize (sorry - you have to die to get it though ). I am busy working on my next level and will hopefully have it published soon. When I do, I hope you'll be able to review it as well. Thanks! | 2009-03-04 21:22:00 Author: v0rtex Posts: 1878 |
Level: Monkey Island: The Great Banana Debacle PSN: Linenman Location: off the coast of Africa (Atlantic Ocean) This is the 2nd level that I created. It's a loose sequel to my 1st level (Monkey Island: Welcome to the Jungle). The 1st level didn't really have a story line (so if you haven't played it, you aren't really going to be missing anything important). The 1st level is basically just a play through level; where I was testing out what I could do with what I had been given to work with. This level, however, does have a story line. It's about a bad bunch of banana's and the monkey's are blaming you, sackboy, for it. You've gotta figure out how to fix it, and avoid being killed by angry primates (of various species) at the same time. I sorta made to be for kids (probably a 10-14 yr old range), but there are a few hard parts in it. If you pay attention to the description of the level, you might also notice something towards the end (it's not important for game play, just something I threw in for those paying attention). If you don't read the description though, you're probably going to be a little like, "wtf" when you see it lol. This, like all of my other levels, is best played alone .. but is more than do-able for 1-4 players. It's usually more funny that way imo lol. The thermo is pretty much baked on this level, although I can still go in and tweak things a little here and there. TIA, Jennie | 2009-03-05 08:41:00 Author: FabbieSack Posts: 88 |

Hello again, Since Dimo1138 was unable to finish my Mission Possible level (due to the profile error he was getting), I was wondering if Sackdragon could give it a try. I appreciate Dimo's comments and I don't need another whole review, but I would really like some feedback on the rest of the level too. The part after using the passcodes to open the door to be specific. I'm not sure when MM will issue a patch to fix the profile error, and I don't want Dimo to delete items he wants to keep just so he can finish my level. Thank you for your time. Would volunteers help keep it going? I would ask Dimo1138 first if i was you, because he's the one who started The Review League. If it was up to me, it isnt a problem, I'd even recruit you in if you do your reviews satisfactorily. BTW.. ive made a boss in a newly published level. This boss uses the Boss AI system that you have published long ago. I would like you to see it if you would. Check out my level, The Count Of St. Claire: Chapter 1 (for the boss), but i would advice you to first play The Prologue in order for you to understand and enjoy the story better. Let me know what you think. | 2009-05-28 06:43:00 Author: graygoose Posts: 371 |
I just played both the prologue and the first chapter. I'm a big fan of levels that combine an original story with great gameplay, so you've definitely got me hooked. The artwork in the prologue is absolutely incredible. Some of the best I've seen on LBP. http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=477&pictureid=4092 It's a minor nitpick, but I'd recommend unsquaring the tops of the platforms in the picture below. Everything else is so organic that they stick out like a sore thumb. http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=477&pictureid=4093 I really enjoyed the prologue. I've been toying with the idea of building a prologue in a similar fashion. (I've got the thing scripted out, I just need to put it together.) However, this puts what I've been planning to shame! Oh, and I definitely enjoyed the translation between levels and books as well as the idea of the count being cursed into a sackboy. *************** Here's a couple minor nitpicks for the actual level, before I go into the real feedback. http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=477&pictureid=4091 Visible dark matter. This is near the Metal Gear room after you grab the lower sponge. http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=477&pictureid=4090 I got crushed the first time I landed in this position http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=477&pictureid=4089 Global lighting tool is visible. As a player I tend to do a lot of exploring. I actually went the top route and found the key that way instead of going the bottom route. I fell at the end and walked back. This messed up the dialog a tad. I thought the skeleton bad guys were very well done. It's hard to make a real platforming challenge from standard enemies. So the idea to make them invincible in the front so the challenge is climbing the terrain to get behind them was very clever. I liked your continued use of the hand over hand climbing mechanism with R1. For the most part, throughout the level, the platforming was challenging but not frustrating. Prize bubbles did a good job showing the way forward. The only place I had a bit of trouble was climbing the tower. I thought the awnings were in the thin layer and didn't realize I had to jump on them. This made me fall quite a few times until I figured it out. Also, some of the grab points on the tower didn't feel very thematic. They were just sort of there to facilitate the climb. Of course making them thematic could also make them harder to see. So maybe its best that they stand out. I also had a somewhat difficult time turning the mechanism at the bottom after I had grabbed the second key. Maybe if it was up a little higher so sackboy could grab it in the air. Trying to grab it on the ground and rotate it was a little tough. Although maybe loosing the strength of the bolt might do the trick. Next up we've got the trees. I thought these were great. They gave the level a great feel. On top of that they were good platforming elements in and of themselves. The red lights were easy to spot but also felt thematic, which is the perfect combination. The tree shaking was really violent and could really send sackboy flying. These parts were a lot of fun. http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=477&pictureid=4088 The mushroom jumping minigame was well implemented. I like having optional challenges in a level. As for the mushroom jumps in general, I recommend adding a thin layer to the front of the mushroom. Media Molecule does this with their jump platforms. (I mimicked them and did it in mine as well.) The thin layer prevents sackboy from ending up under the jump platform. This happened to me a couple times while jumping. I would land under the mushroom. The switch you use is set to directional, instead of 1, so sackboy doesn't get crushed. The mushroom top just hovers above his head and sackboy generally needs to suicide. I thought you implemented some of my boss AI concepts into your boss quite well. The traps were programmed, requiring sackboy to do some pattern recognition. The bombs from the skeleton's cannon aimed for sackboy's position if he stayed in one spot too long. My only real suggestion here is to try to visually link the bombs falling with the cannon a little more closely. Maybe a flash from the cannon or laugh from the skeleton could be added to the sequence? All in all, I really enjoyed this level and I'm looking forward to seeing you continue the series. I gave both levels 5 stars. The prologue got beautiful. Level 1 brilliant. I also hearted you and both levels. | 2009-05-29 00:03:00 Author: dcf Posts: 468 |
dcf Im glad you liked my levels man. And im quite surprised you even made a detailed review on both! Your suggestions are taken into consideration especially on the visible dark matters and the GLT. As for the grab points on the tower and the trees im afraid, they'll have to stay that way tho. And for the thin layer in front on the mushrooms, I thank you for showing me that, ill definitely use it in my next project. And now for the boss, im not really sure by what you meant about linking the cannon and the cannon ball falling... If you meant that i should make the player more aware the the cannon ball is on its way to hit him/her, i believe thats where the warning light comes in. (I really didnt wanna add that because it felt out of place, but ive had many players complain on the boss' difficulty without it. So i have no choice) Thanks for your feedback... I thought you did a pretty good job with it. | 2009-05-29 06:44:00 Author: graygoose Posts: 371 |
Im glad you liked my levels man. And im quite surprised you even made a detailed review on both! Well, I actually consider my previous post feedback rather than a review However, I guess the two would be fairly similar. Your suggestions are taken into consideration especially on the visible dark matters and the GLT. As for the grab points on the tower and the trees im afraid, they'll have to stay that way tho. I really liked the grab points on the trees!!!! Sorry if that wasn't clear. I thought they were both thematic and highly visible, which is the perfect combination! And for the thin layer in front on the mushrooms, I thank you for showing me that, ill definitely use it in my next project. You're welcome! So i have no choice) Actually, I wasn't thinking about a change to gameplay. I was more thinking about a visual tweak to link the bomb attack with the cannon in the mind of the player. The bombs drop from straight down, so it's not immediately apparent that it's supposed to represent the skeleton aiming and shooting at you. So I was thinking an additional link might be helpful. Not to impact the gameplay, but to trick the player into thinking that the bombs are actually being shot from the cannon, rather than emitted from above the screen. In the Serpent Shrine level Media Molecule pulls this trick. They have emitters above the screen that drop the bombs. (They actually use a warning light too!) However, there's an animation of Sheriff Zapata jumping into the air. His upper body goes just off the screen, giving the illusion that he's the one throwing the bombs! So if you have an explosion at the cannon at the same time the light comes on, or even add an emitter of a bomb going up off the screen (lifetime set to be short enough that it doesn't come back down) it will make it look like the bombs are coming from the cannon instead of the sky. Thanks for your feedback... I thought you did a pretty good job with it. Glad to help. You put a lot of work into these levels and it really shows. | 2009-05-29 14:10:00 Author: dcf Posts: 468 |
I see, then i have no worries then. The red highlighted part in your post is what i exactly have implemented on my boss. I can only assume you didnt notice this because of the zoomed out camera and the boss is in the far end to the right which could be unnoticeable when you focus on the gameplay to the left. It even aims for sackboy,(cannon pushes forward if the player is in any of the 2 platforms in the left then the cannon pulls back if the player is in any of the 3 platforms to he right) I only added delay to the dropping part only to give time for the player to stay on any of the platforms longer to keep it rising. But perhaps if i could set the time of cannon explosions to the cannon ball drops closer, and still keep the delay time... That would make it more realistic eh? Ill see what i can do to tweak those logic. | 2009-05-29 16:05:00 Author: graygoose Posts: 371 |

Probably the issue was that compared with the purple light from the sky, the cannon effects were too subtle in comparison. This level is going for a fairly high level of realism so it would be incorrect to make the cannon to overt. (Also, if the player's attention is drawn to the cannon too much, the player might be distracted from the actual attacks, which wouldn't be good either.) Here's some suggestions, although maybe some of them are already implemented. I'm not suggesting that you do all of these. These are just some ideas off the top of my head that might remind the player that they are fighting the skeleton. Muzzle Flair: Tiny LED on the cannon set to foggy. The 1 shot switch that shoots the cannon could also tie to an emitter that creates a key for a split second, activating an on/off switch tied to the LED. Cannon Smoke: Emit a bit of gas at the muzzle of the cannon for a split second. Just put an extra emitter on the cannon for the gas. Give it a .1 second lifetime and put the 1 shot switch that shoots the cannon onto this additional emitter. Light Bomb: This one might be my favorite. Just put a small purple LED on the bomb emitted from the cannon. It goes up in the air and then the purple light appears above sackboy and a bomb drops down. It's fairly simple and should be obvious enough for most players to see, without overly distracting the player. Evil Laugh: The one shot switch that activates the cannon emitter could also activate a laugh from the skeleton. Also, an explosion sound effect on the cannon would be good, if there isn't already one. Hope this is helpful. | 2009-05-29 17:33:00 Author: dcf Posts: 468 |
