Cross-Platform Multiplayer

Archive: 34 posts

I'm not sure if this question has been asked and there is an answer for it, but I can't find one if there is therefore I ask "Can gamers play together on opposite platforms?" and as Sony said it's technically possible (http://www.techradar.com/news/gaming/consoles/sony-ps4-and-ps3-cross-platform-gameplay-technically-possible--1195115) though I don't know if any games currently support cross-platform multiplayer. Does anyone know if Sumo Digital have said anything about this?

I really would like to play with friends as most of mine are yet to purchase a PlayStation 4.

I'd love it, amd my guess (kinda optimistical but totally possible) is that it will happen. As the cross-play in some games between PS3 and PSVita, this game will be pretty much identical for both consoles so I expect Cross-Play to happen!2014-07-24 05:09:00

I'm praying. I want to play LBP3 with a mate of mine, but he has a PS4, and he's 99.5% likely to get the PS4 version instead of the PS3 version, so I'm hoping.2014-07-24 11:47:00

I really wierd because some people want it some don't. I think it will since they share the same server (also LBP1 and LBP2 share the same server and soon togheter with LBP3) so I think so!2014-07-25 18:09:00

It's confirmed that LBP3 will share the same server, so I think yes, you can play together on PS3 and PS4. I hope

LBP1 and LBP2 shared the same server but you can't play LBP2 with LBP1 players. Then again, I'm just being devil's advocate here.
Just don't put your expectations too high so you won't be disappointed.

I hope, by what all my friends are still on PS3. The problem, that could remove features appropriate to the PS4 for LBP3.2014-07-26 15:34:00

What features the game is identical, almost besides the improved graphics.

The problem with your devil's advocate is the fact that those we're two different games in the series, when we're talking about the same game, just on other programs.

It's not going to happen unless Sony start making it compulsory for PS3 owners to have PS+ to play multiplayer. It's really quite simple and I'm completely comfortable with the situation. I noticed that nearly every section that required more than one player to unlock a prize bubble only consisted of two players. I think they've done this so you can unlock everything with a friend on the couch, online with a friend or through shareplay.

So no more than 2 player puzzles? If true this makes me much more happy.

I must have watched about three hours in total and all I've seen so far is 2 player sections. Of course I could have missed a few sections here and there but I think it makes sense to keep it to two.

Fingers crossed.

thanks for staying on top of things; no more 3-4 player puzzles, great! (well, as of what we know now)

Don't hold me to that! It's looking like it so far but I really daren't watch any more lol

By the way, when you go to create for the first time, it gives you two options: Normal/Advanced.

Could it just be like previous games with 2x sections in early levels eventually progressing to a 3x and 4x by the last levels.2014-11-17 08:15:00

Normal and advanced mode. Interesting. Can you define the difference between what users can do?

How do you figure that?

They had Pixeljunk Shooter with cross platform multiplayer between Vita and PS4 without reqiring the Vita players to have a sub so that may not be the reason.2014-11-17 16:11:00

The technical demands to cross-platform a game like this must be tremendous. You already has two slightly different sets of code for every object, sticker, costume piece, etc in the game. Then, content has to work between four players, all who have different content themselves...then it's often running off of player created levels with all the same doubling up of codes...and then you have players being projected in two separate graphical qualities...

Were are talking a significant barrier. I'm not saying it isn't possible, but they most likely want to make sure everything is running smooth on the separate gens before they even attempt to see if they can make it all run together.

So, is it confirmed then? I see a lot of people talking like you can't crossplay, but didn't see any links to say it was certain...2014-11-17 17:06:00

You should have left me with the belief that maybe cross-platform was possible! You know since LBp3 doesn't release until 10 days after the Us date in the UK. Now all I've got is my Yu-Gi-Oh! anime and a DualShock 4 without the one game I actually want to play!

Ah, gotcha.

Sucks you guys have to wait that much longer.

But, you guys get all the sweet bugs that come with the launch, 10 days should be enough to get some of them patched and ready for the next batch of players to arrive!

Can anybody confirm that share play works with lbp3? And if so, could a European player (where it isn't out yet) play with an American?2014-11-19 10:00:00
