[update4.0]Skunk Bunny Adventures 2: Stomp & Vore (Dragon Attack)

Archive: 36 posts

(Edit: 2nd aug.2014 Hi, even when this thread is a few days old I still offer F4F!)

Skunk Bunny Adventures 2: Stomp & Vore (Dragon Attack!)
http://if.lbp.me/img/bl/60f7ea61f86754fe4868c01232dc754103f3fa70.png
LBP.me LINK: http://lbp.me/v/qsk2pw6
Patch 4.0

You travel back to the "skunk bunny planet" to find and rescue your friend Skuii.
And as if that would not be enough: you get eaten by a giant dragon!
Find a way to escape! (And befor you ask, yes the level has a happy end for everyone: even the dragon)

It's a 4 level set, (not counting the levels ending) including memo function to save your progress. It also uses the memoriser to know what language and settings you had. Also if a sub level link fails to load than the progress saving trigger at the end of each level is allways there to help you out!

In game description:
"Again you're the last help for the skunk bunnies! Skuii is missing! Get eaten from an adventure feat a hungry giant dragoness and skunk bunnies! [Notes: unlockable 5 levels! /// This "can" be played w/o knowing the first SBA level! /// It's strict 1P only! /// Controlls lv4: L1=fire aura, L2=dash down, R2+right stick=shoot, O=hover /// Plz report bugs! I will patch it asap. /// 11prices: 1 inLv1, 1 inLv2, 2 inLv3, 2 inLv4, 5 inLvE /// ~30.000 points possible /// special thanks to @CuriousSack and LBPC!]"

Here a short summary of the included levels. (Don't read it if you don't want to spoiler yourself)
Level 1: You travel to the skunk bunny planet and meet Skuii's sister. A giant dragon allmost crushes you under her paw.
Level 2: You talk to the elder and get betrayed by one of the team under the elder. He wants to get rid of you and teleports you right at the nose of the dragon!
Level 3: You can't escape, the dragon don't lets you go. You get eaten! Slowly you find your way through the dragons body.
Level 4: Someone helps you! A energy ball following you lends you fire magic! Burn, jump higher, shoot, hover and dash! That sure will help you to escape!
Level E: The happy end. Not saying it, see for yourself!

PS:
Yes, there are a few references from the first level from 2011 in text form, but you don't need to know the old level to play this one.
Except you want to know who Skuii is, and more... The old level can be found here: https://lbp.me/v/ycrh0s Little warning: It's from 2011, I had not half of the knowledge of LBP2 logic back the time. Unlike the new level where you can trigger the speech bubbles yourself, in the old one a timer rules over them. So it's your choice! :3

Also:
Thank you for playing! Hope you'll like it!

~greetings

Looks awesome! Queueueued it

Hey, guess what? I played your level, and it was great!! I noticed how you were saying that some people were having problems loading a part of the level, and I am happy to report that I did not have any trouble at all! So either you fixed the problem or I got lucky

Story: 4/5
First off I'd like to touch base on the story, at first I was worried that by not playing the original level I thought maybe I would miss something in the story, but I'm pretty sure I understood everything that was going on. Though maybe not I'm not sure. I felt as though the characters weren't really developed well enough. Because like you just randomly introduce Skunk Bunnies, left and right it seemed l the like, but maybe that's what I missed out on by not playing the first level, because I had no idea who half characters were, so that's what gets you a 4 instead of 5. Also on a note, some of the English was grammatically incorrect, like the characters would say the city is save now, when it should have been safe not save. But that's not really to problematic, considering its in two languages.

Graphics: 4.5/5
The level looked great for most of the parts, like the inside of the dragon and the spaceship at the beginning, but the town of the skunk bunnies seemed a little off compared to the rest. I felt as though the bluestone clashed with some of the technology in the level, but of course you did say that they recently got more advanced so maybe that's it. And in the city I kept trying to get on areas only to realize that it wa part of the 3D layer glitch. Also on a good note, the giant dragon and costumes for everyone were really impressive.

Gameplay: 4/5
The game play for the most part was pretty generic LittleBigPlanet stuff, with some wall jumping put in. Don't get me wrong its not a bad thing, I loved exploring and what not, but it wasn't until I got the fire powers that the level really took flight. That part was probably the most fun to play. Each power felt useful, and I loved how you expanded upon it as I got deeper in the dragon.

Overall: 4.17/5
This level was really fun to play, it had a great story, and honestly it was the first level I've played that gave me a sense of accomplishment when finished.

Also if you're still doing F4F (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=89821-Multiplayer-RPG-Tech-Demo) here's that.

I've always had problems with sub level links on my levels too. Fails to load up half the time. I ended up making the sublevels regular levels with a scoreboard so I knew they would work. Not saying you should do that, but I guess it's always an option. ON to the level!

Really wonderful work! I really enjoyed levels 1 and 2, but when I got to level 3 and 4 I was amazed. Being squeezed into the dragons insides (Doesn't sound right lol) was super unique. While it's a bit gross hehe, it's also something I've never seen before and the sounds effects were great. The gameplay was really inventive in level 3.

Level 4 was my favorite because of all the new abilities I get. Each one is great. Shooting fire which also propels me in the air and slamming the ground worked fantastically. Pressing circle to slow down was awesome too. I loved that I had to use the abilities all the time in different situations instead of introducing the abilities and then not really needing them.

I didn't finish because the screen turned black. Did I miss much? It seemed like the game was about over. Wonderful level!

@greensmurfy:
well i dont want to make them seperate levels : 3 to much work in it to make it look like as it has some kind of flow you play it : 3

Thank you : 3 and heh, yeah i tried to make the fun increase the longer you play. and i know how stupid it can be when you dont have to use special abilites when you gain them. i added a lot you need to quick think about what to use now and than it ends right in the moment when the player thinks cool now i want more x 3... mean but adds to the replay factor i think ^^ )also there are huge chain combos for points where you need some skill to get them, i hope for people to hunt the highscores ^^)

and yeah the version 1.0 black screen bug. i patched it now and it works now. i combined the last two sublevels to just one single level, i had to cut everything in pieces and slowly put it into the other level while removing unneccessary stuff.

if oyu missed something? well i would love to tell you but i dont know how much i want to tell about it here in the thread but i think you miss about 4 to 10 minutes of the end level. (depends on how fast you read) there are still questions to answer about the elder and skurr, helby is there again and is afraid of drenarah, than a bit how drenarah discoveres normal food of the normal sized people and at the end there is a party with some light effects which i tried to make look nice : 3 - It's sad that you wasn't able to see it. I hope you will replay it, and when you say level 4 was fun to play you can select the level in the menu now and directly start there again. of course you don't need to,thats just a friendly offer : 3 your choice! : 3

also anything i could do for you? since that is a special kind of thread. also thank you for your so far review! i'm glad you enjoyed it

I felt in love with the little Bunkies in the first part and it was a honor to help little Skuii in this 2nd part
The level has so much variety in it and such a charming story! <3

Hey, dear ForcesWerwolf, Your levels have entertained me all Sunday afternoon, thanks a lot. You helped me keep some money 'cause I didn't have to buy a Indie-game from the PSN-Store

Hey there, I really enjoyed your level.

It started off a bit slow but when the dragon came it was really fantastic! When I was sitting on the dragon's tongue after choosing to go into his mouth, I was just amazed at your level of detail. To be honest, I was tempted to replay it just to see what would happen if I were to choose the tail

I really enjoyed the story it was very unique and fun. But the gameplay, most especially when you got your powers, was fantastic as well! The level design of inside the dragon was very good. But something that did annoy me a bit was those couple of times when I had to grab the bounce pad from the ceiling and then drag it to jump on it. It kept on bouncing me the wrong way and it was difficult to get aimed right.

Other than that nitpick, there was nothing I had wrong with the level. Thanks for making such a fun level!

Oh, and if you wouldn't mind, my F4F level

first of all thank you for playing it and thank you for the review!

yeah the bounce pad thing. i hoped that it was some kind of riddle to drag it to the left where it must be aim to the right. also i hoped that the player could choose where to jump with it when they will try to chain bubbles. if you look close there are hidden points and there are ways to combo those.

and for the F4F, sure thing! i allready had it queued up anyways x3

PS: i am not proud of the tail maw. nothing happens x3 you just go down on your own and than the level goes on like you know it from the inside of the maw. but heh x3 my fault i guess. i should have scrapped the idea i think. the inside of the maw was a fun thing and i would wish all people would go through there instead of the tail. so yeah...

@ corioussack: can't wait :3

@ schnupsi: yay x3 haha.

@ all: hmm.... i could use someone who shows me the biggest english grammar errors in the level so i could correct it. i would love to make the level better that way

- - - - - - - - - -

I updated the level with patch v2.5

- I added a NOW finally "good" working multiplayer prevention. (i would be happy if people would test it if it is possible to break the multiplayer prevention) (this is the main reason for the patch and the main reason to announce it right now)
- minor fixes from little bugs,
- a few adds of help in the level, which will unlock when people take to long or search the way (but not much)
- fixed 3 hidden easteregg texts which i forgot to translate to german if you choose german
- i changed a few minor review things/ideas i recieved from a private friend (but not much as well)

planned for the future:
- correct all english grammar and spelling errors. (for that i NEED help from english talking people, i can*t do better than i did in the level - sadly, squeek!)

PS:
there are a few little eastereggs in the level!
for example: jump behind the bed at the very beginning in level 1 befor da vinci talks to you. look at the changing text

PS2:
also it is possible to get more then 25000 points in that level, nobody reached even 17000 so far

PS3:
still doing F4F!

UPDATE 2.7

it might sound like a small update, since the last one was 2.5 but it changed flow in gameplay a lot.

New:
+ New added plattforms in the room with the 4 magic piles, to make it easier to reach them
+ Made the floor higher in the room befor the room with the 4. Same reason.
+ Changed some forms of some plattforms elsewhere
+ Added signs and hidden infos to make it easier to get what to do and where to go
+ Made it easier to aim right with the moveable bounce pads.
+ Changed some spelling and grammar errors (Security Skunk Bunnies and the Announcer) [more errors will be fixed in future updates] (if you want to help, note me :3 thank you!)
+ Some minor changes, as well added LBPC logo, at the beginning of level 1 (I get so much help here AND in the german lbpc forum, i think thats a must have than)

.......................

and now version 2.8

- decoration and other things inlevel 1 and 2
- translation errors in whole level 2 fixed. (at least those spottet)
- a few little other things

I've played it - and I loved it! <3
This is a must play, simple as that! Each sublevel tops the one before,
and the special abilities you?ll get are amazing. (Reminds me of game-classics like Super Metroid.)
Great design, funny dialogues, cool ending, challenging at times - but always original.

PS. The only minor issues I wasn't all that happy about, were those here: ^^

1. I had some trouble finding the exit to the right (at the Skunk-Building).
I think you could add some lights/decorations there, to make the entrance a little easier to spot.
(My TV has some problems with dark spots.)

2. In the belly of the dragon you'll find two jump pads glued to a half-circle-something.
And I found it a bit troublesome to get them in the jumping-direction I wanted.

Other than that - just great! ^^ The dragon is really something else and I also liked the hud,
where you could choose the stages and a little dragon-teasing. ^^

http://i8.lbp.me/img/ft/468dd6ffa5b90287d50a127283ba6bf0f352f138.jpg

And for those who can't decide on which way to take... - well, it doesn't really matter,
since only the entry scene seems to be different. So take the one, you feel more comfortable with.

what do you think should i do to make point 2) better for the gameplay? i don't rlly know what besides gyroscopes i could do to fix it?

I will think about to add something for point 1).

One solution would be (sorry, I have to explain that one in german): ^^

And thanks for the kind words - but there are better reviewers out there. ^^
You just have to find a few good people who like to do F4F for example.
Also, praise is nice and all - but critique is just as important, if reasonably justified. ^^

hm... lumina i will think about a solution, but i would love to keep the bounce pad. because if i change the rules with adding stuff like dangerous acids, dann beisst sich das mit dem rest des levels finde ich x3

thank you!

Ok. The two bounce pads could have been part of the city or the Skunk-rabbits the dragon ate.
So their presence is not entirely off. Just a little bit (since no other trash is in there.) ^^
And while you have toxic vapors, there is no dangerous liquid. So maybe you're right about the geysir thing.
Maybe it really would be best to find a better handling solution, instead of replacing them.
In this case you could just tweak the ground a little.

PATCH 2.9:

- fixed spelling and grammar with the help from the german lbpc area. https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=89887-UPDATEv2-8-die-skunk-bunny-adventures-2-brauchen-eine-korrektur&p=1169556#post1169556 Level 3 + 1/3 of Level 4 (thanks to curioussack!)
- fixed the said issue with the bouncepads being difficult to to aim right (discussed with lumina) should be easy now (thanks lumina!)
- fixed that players if grabbing said bouncepads can take them in areas where they dont belong (upstairs) and if get stuck if they fall down again without the pads

you guys are great! i love working with you!

- - - - - - - - - -

Patch 3.1 is out now.
it took a lot time to get back to my menu logic and change everrything in each sublevel to make it work better now.

a lot player stopped playing after level 4 and never saw the short last sublevel with the goal. and i wondered why,
i guess that it is because of the sublevel link bug from lbp. others think so too. so here is the patch for that. (at least what i can do about it)

It has:
+ I added the last ending level to the set of levels you can unlock in the menu (so if the level link fails to work after level 4 you can still play the end of the level if you go back to the menu. i find it sad that lbp still can't prevent the level link bug from happening and it is fatal in my level if you get stuck at a black screen than)
+ I changed/added a few preventions where the player could die
+ I reprogrammed a lot of logic, also in the menu and memoriser, also fixed a bug: now the memo knows that you finished level 3, i forgot to add that as it seems back the time.
+ some sublevels are easier to play now, also added hidden signs

..........

PATCH 3.3:

the first door opens earlier, also added dimmed arrows, changed the doors material, and changed text in lv1 // added actor name to 3 speech bubbles I forgot in lvE

Wow. It was just brilliant.

Honestly, it started off simple enough. The intro was typical platforming fare, but when the story got going it really was getting good. The teleport animation in particular was beautiful. The story in the first two levels was keeping the excitement going (especially liked the "nobunny" gag). The visuals of the first levels were not the best, as I despise that blue stone used in levels (unfortunately you've used it a lot ). The fire effects used for visual flare often killed me too, so you might want to look into that.

Then there's level 3 and level 4, which are some of the most fun I've had on this game in a long time. The visuals of the dragons insides were brilliant, and the superpowers style gameplay was innovative and fun.

@trembler:
thank you for the review!

yeah i know the first two levels are a bit just for the story... they are just made to make level 3 and 4 a better experience while knowing the story behind. i'm not proud, and i know now that i could have done it better. but i don't know if i should rlly change that much now. two months i worked on this non stop and i kinda wanted it to end XD. levels 3 and 4 were made earlier than the first two. at least if i remember right.

for the blue stone, its kinda a left over from the first part of the skunk bunny adventures (it is linked in my signature) they had not much besides bouncepads and just simple stone stuff and i kinda wanted to keep it as it was for years X3, kinda how they skunkbunnies are. maybe they thought it is harder to destroy than the normal stone materials and considering that they need to rebuild it very often, i thought it would be more simple to make it easy to rebuild again. i wonder what i could change to fix that issue in your eyes? the termo is full till the rest bit, and i can't rlly add more materials to the level. if you got any ideas let me know :3 (i would welcome good ideas i could use for a patch)

what exactly do you mean with the fire effects and killing you?

and level 3 and 4, i allways wanted to make a "good" level featuring some inside parts of a body, but in my past levels it still never looked like i imaged it. this time i tried very hard x3 and finally its acceptable.

in the first "swifown chronicles" level i had some elements like activating energy dots inside to escape, and i wanted to make that again, but change it from boring like it was to something a bit more epic. first i planned that skuii is doing all the work for you, your job would be to follow him and make it possible to reach those: so i worked on a bot to make all those abilities possible and look good. at the end i liked it so much that i decided to let the player use those abilites themself. and that was a good choice i think :3

thank you again for the review!

PS: what can i do for you? (F4F)

........................

PATCH 3.4:
changed a lot camera settings in level 1, also some minor stuff
PATCH 3.4.1:
added a zoom to skuhaphias face at the end of level 1

.......................

PATCH 3.5:
- added 3 prices (costumes as SKUHAPHIA, DRENARAH and SKUII) for level finishing)*
- added 2 prices (costume as HELBY and SKURR and DRENARAH BUST ITEM for level acing)*
* = got missing after i merged the last two sublevels into one level, never noticed it. if you played after 2.0 and want those costumes i would suggest to play the ending again. you can choose it in the menu

PATCH 3.5.1:
- edited the description ingame to include lv4 controll buttons and notes for how many price bubbles in each level are (so players could acces them anytime during the gameplay)

.................

PATCH 3.6:
- CuriousSack helped me to fix spelling and grammar in the whole level 1
PATCH 3.6.3:
- Added even more arrows in level 1
- Added decent help deco in level 4
- Changed minor text in level 4
PATCH 3.6.4: I never thought I would ever say this in a patch change log: improved game stability! XD (but seriously, moved camera away where nothing complicated was build and than the level link activates. in hope it fails less likely to link the sub level)

You know, I played this on Saturday morning and I gotta say, not a bad way to wake up. From the starting menu to the overall game - great design. Many of the things I enjoyed have already been expressed, but I liked the little things like the bath water (nice illusion), the bounce-pad layout was fun, and the camera angles worked well. The Drenarah design and animation were well done and the insides gave me a genuine feeling that I was about to get digested. It was fun for me throughout. I never say anything negative about another creators level, but in this case, positivity comes automatic. I too was curious to see the tail entry, so that's good, but I figured it might not be as gross through her mouth. ... PS: MicroDrenarah Costume - A must have... Game - A must play! 2014-07-28 22:39:00

The level set should be finished now!
No more changes, patches or anything :3 - In other words, i consider it finished so far.
(Except it's a bug i need to fix)

Also i changed the whole presentation in post 1,
i took new pictures, added a fully new text and summary.

Also i wanted to say thank you for your interest, and thank you everyone who played it and will play!
It was a blast to work with all the reviews and to work with @CuriousSack for the translation!

greetings

I really liked the dragon section with the power ups bringing a nice balance between puzzle and platforming.

The power ups all serve a nice purpose and are required to clear specific sections in intelligent ways, which makes them fun to use.

There were a few sections that I felt could have been laid out better, for example there is a section fairly far in where you have you navigate through some gas, then quickly drop down past some more gas, and then float yourself to a ledge... but you have no way of knowing this at first, because you can't see where you are supposed to be going until you get to the very section where you need to be floating.

It felt a little bit like an unnecessary or cheap death.

The parts in the city I didn't enjoy so much. I understand that they are plot based sections, but I think that there wasn't enough to do between the sections. Admittedly there are a few bounce pads about, but they are only there to collect some points, and are not essential obstacles to explore the city. Having two sections of this before getting to the dragon does seem a little excessive. I think that faster you get teleported there the stronger the over all story could be.

do you mean this one?

if yes, than i feel sorry, because i original did that on purpose, because i hoped for the player to notice that you don't see whats below, and therefor try to go down slowly in hover mode giving them more then enogh time to react going to the ledge.
i think that plan failed. should i fix it?

Yeah, i see. I guessed that those two first levels make people stop playing befor they even reach the stuff i wanted them to play. (including some people i rlly hoped for that they like it stopped there) But i wonder how i should tell the story without those two levels.
Maybe i should... hm... I don't know how to shorten that part without scrapping telling the story. Also the stomping animation would not be possible if the ground would not be flat and when i make it more complicated to navigate there the paw destroyes it anyway, its a bit ... bad story to tell in a lbp level i guess... my fault... or i do it as a video, so i can controll what and where it happens and let the player start at the prepared field with destroyed stuff, making it harder to navigate to the goal.
I will try to make that better the next time i make a story level!

I must say thank you for your review, it helped me understand more why everyone was quitting there.
i wish i would have thought of this issue earlier...

EDIT: because if i would have thought of it earlier, i would have rebuild the whole thing to make it more fun, and don't publish it this way.

That is the exact part I am referring to... and your idea makes sense, however; because there is the last line of gas, I think the general player choice will be to time the drop and get through quickly.

If there was a small ledge before the drop where the camera pulled back a little to see the next section then it would be a bit better.

Also if there were a check point at the top of the drop then this would also help... the previous check point wouldn't be needed, and you could maybe get rid of the first vertical gas bit, and put two in the drop.

It doesn't need a huge amount of change, just a small re ordering so you can see what is coming up.

As for the first two levels, I guess just think what is really necessary to advance the story...

You turn up in the spa, have a chat, wander outside, jump around for a bit, the foot stomps, you go back to the spa, and then on to level two, here you go up some walls, speak to someone, and then go back down to be teleported. If it was not your level, and you didn't know what was coming would you sit through another loading screen at this point?

I think that trap you fell into is you made the level for the story, then tried to add fun to it, which in turn made it take longer to set up the story, removing the majority of the platforming could actually make it more fun.

You could actually land in the city under attack see the foot stomp, run into the spa room straight into the secret meeting and be teleported straight away.

Unless it is a different path; the two choices to be eaten don't seem necessary either, and it's a bit... strange to be eaten by the tail anyway.

It seems harsh and is a gets rid of a huge amount of your hard work, but thinking about you level like this; you actually end up being eaten by the dragon much faster without changing the plot.

You also add an element of a ticking clock, because the town is still under attack when you get eaten meaning you feel like you need to move faster to clear the level.

If you wanted; you could add a race mode then; or even some green mist that slowly follows you and kill (digests) you if you stand still for too long.

i play with the idea to create a second version of level 1 and 2, sadly i still need to cut them in two, because if i just build one more chip the termo overheats in level 1.

but i am still not sure... i have ideas what i could do to make it better and faster looking, but that would mean like you said, getting rid of many work and change the level others (even if they are a few) like allready and hearted.

this is difficult and i might do a second version of the level? so that i just link part 3 and 4 to the second version as well?
that will make me sleepless nights i guess... hm... no idea what i'll do now.

considering that my friend wants me to make a LBP break because i did nothing else the last months, i should let it be for now. (Will be back in LBP3 of course) But honestly, maybe i do it.
But its allways good to know what i did wrong and why this happens. Feels better than being left in the dark. Thanks again!

EDIT:
the speed down issue: I changed the camera a bit and gave a warning ingame, i hope it's better now.
also i let the checkpoint below activating when you enter the area, so no put backs
Patch: 3.8

...................

EDIT: thanks to L-I-M-I i was able to defeat a bug i never encountered befor.
it's now PATCH 3.9. i also added ingame pop up controllinator controll help information in level 4 (however those are called, at least i know how they work XD)

It can get really hard to go in and change stuff when its pretty much completed. Rebuilding everything is really daunting too.

It may be something to keep in mind for you next level/series design though

Hi Forces,

I gave you my feedback already on another place, in a short version: the first parts for the story background telling is ok but only average! But then there is an explosion of grandious ideas and funny gameplay and ingeniously designed sceneries! So this level honestly deserved my yay and my heart and I can only say, that I really enjoyed the show! Thanks for this fantastic level! And as promised, here the video recording, not of my highscore hunting, but I think that my result has been ok!
