Racing AI Tech Demo (Video)

This is something I've been working on since back in 2012 with a little help from hairybones1997--he designed the car models used in this tech demo and parts of earlier, obsoleted version of the logic. This is a demonstration of top-down racing AI within LBP2 using waypoint based logic. It's pretty logic intensive--the video uses as many cars as I can fit on screen before I start having thermo problems. This is after fully optimizing the logic as much as possible. The level is currently not published, and that's because I'm not really sure what to do with this AI system, but perhaps I might do something with it if people want to see it.

The logic isn't perfect, but it's pretty good considering how the AI can manage 3-wide scenarios and the fact that the fastest way around the track is the preferred line, not hugging the inside wall. (That happened in earlier builds when I didn't include logic to account for the effect of different racing lines on speeds.)

You could make a NASCAR level where you just watch the cars drive around the track 250 times. Lol. Or you could do a more reasonable race viewing level where you bet on a car beforehand and you randomly tweak the speaks of the cars each race to determine a random winner.2014-07-22 18:12:00
