Local MP Split Screen
Archive: 18 posts
It's kind of irritating wanting to play multiplayer games with your siblings or friends from around the block, only to find out the game is online only. I feel like LBP should have a split screen option. I honestly don't see why it doesn't already. You could make it work kind of like how it does in the LEGO games: if your partner(s) is(are) close enough, then the screen will be unified. Otherwise, the screens should be split. | 2014-07-19 00:02:00 Author: YungDaVinci Posts: 61 |
It won't get any better than it is already. If they do make it better they'll lose money. | 2014-07-19 00:59:00 Author: dyna Posts: 260 |
Can't believe I never suggested this here - this is one of mine and my husbands biggest bug bears - we would love the option for a split screen camera as we often play lbp together - finding online multiplayer levels all the time becomes quite depressing when you're playing couch co-op! | 2014-07-19 11:57:00 Author: rialrees Posts: 1015 |
...and now I remember what I was going to suggest two weeks ago =p Well, I support this idea. | 2014-07-19 15:39:00 Author: ForgottenEnigma Posts: 1414 |
There are plenty of co-op levels for offline multiplayer, as well as vs levels/minigames where all players will always be on screen. Still, everyone who's ever had a friend/sibling play with them for extended amounts of time would fully support this idea. RPGs especially would benefit from this. | 2014-07-19 17:22:00 Author: wally-217 Posts: 521 |
the main issue comes down to versus levels though. I mean let's face it, sometimes we just want to grab a friend, sit 'em down in front of the console, and proceed to throttle them in lbp till they submit. Right? Right? I may have issues I need to work on. | 2014-07-19 19:01:00 Author: rialrees Posts: 1015 |
I'm a big supporter of this. Even from a create standpoint, my brother and I could make levels twice as fast on our own little screens. | 2014-08-14 06:10:00 Author: Tynz21 Posts: 544 |
Split screen are really only needed for VS levels. Cooperative shares a camera even online and that's the point. I agree that if they added split screen for VS levels, then it would certainly enhance the local experience. Maybe there could be an option in the settings where you change it to VS where you can choose how the screens divide (Horizontally or vertically and for 4 players columns, rows , or boxes and so on) | 2014-08-14 16:51:00 Author: Bladex61 Posts: 348 |

As I mentioned, both my brother and I are avid creators. | 2014-08-15 05:06:00 Author: Tynz21 Posts: 544 |

I think some cooperative levels could work very well even if players were a little more distanced. It would open up a lot of new avenues for cooperative design, even. Anyway, the most likely reason they haven't offered and will probably continue to not offer local split-screen is because the content of each screen has to be rendered on one PS3 or PS4. That takes more processing power, and in order to do it, the game would likely have to take a hit to either graphic quality, framerate, or viewspace. | 2014-08-15 09:17:00 Author: Ryuhza Posts: 355 |

Cut the viewspace in half, still better than no split screen and that will pretty much level out the rendering I would think. | 2014-08-15 13:04:00 Author: Tynz21 Posts: 544 |
Cut the viewspace in half, still better than no split screen and that will pretty much level out the rendering I would think. But then that could mess up level design that relies on specific camera manipulation. Say there's something that's supposed to be visible just at the edge of your screen. With the viewspace cut in half, the player wouldn't be able to see it. | 2014-08-15 19:27:00 Author: Ryuhza Posts: 355 |

With the viewspace cut in half, the player wouldn't be able to see it. True enough. I suppose there could just be a restriction on that though so it just cuts back into full screen when you position a camera. | 2014-08-15 20:49:00 Author: Tynz21 Posts: 544 |
You could do what they did in the LEGO series | 2014-08-15 22:03:00 Author: amiel445566 Posts: 664 |
Well they could add split screen options for cameras? | 2014-08-15 22:05:00 Author: Darthvadre11 Posts: 134 |
You could do what they did in the LEGO series For those who dont know what the LEGO series did, was normally it was one screen, but when you walk away from each other, a line started to grow, and divided the two screens. the only thing I disliked about it was that the line was diagonal instead of being horizontal. Your welcome for the info | 2014-08-15 22:11:00 Author: XX_sonicfan_XX Posts: 265 |
That's a good idea, there could be an option to make it diagonal or horizontal. | 2014-08-15 23:39:00 Author: Darthvadre11 Posts: 134 |

With the viewspace cut in half, the player wouldn't be able to see it. What should be done in LBP3 is just making splitscreen a native "gameplay tool", or global tweaker, etc (similar to LBPVita's orientation options). Some levels may support, some won't. But this way, the creator can playtest with any allowed number of splitscreeners in mind to make sure they get the full experience. This is something that's most likely not going to be put into LBP3 this late into development, but it's still a good idea. | 2014-08-17 18:39:00 Author: runner21 Posts: 35 |
