Creating your own stickers?

Archive: 8 posts

After looking at things like the CDS, digime, the LBP Keyboard, and even the sticker for "Wood Ringer", I was curious: how could I make my own stickers?
I often just take a picture of something, but it's always too dark (level badges, at least). Does anyone have tips for creating my own stickers?

Put it in front view when you take the picture and use a lighted material like sticker panel or neon for all the highlights and bright stuff in the image.2014-07-19 02:47:00

There are a TON of tutorials on making your own stickers.

A few things I have found that helped, but are not in any way "the rules". At times, breaking rules is a good thing.

Without seeing what you are up to it is hard to suggest things, but I make a huge board for the background. Yes, you read that right. Very very large! I do this in a workshop level so I can't break anything. I make the background roughly the dimensions of my photo, but larger than the area you want to use so you don't have icky other colors peeking in from the sides once you take the shot.

One thing that helps most sticker photos is changing it to front view. Poof, no shadows, no perspective. Everything lined up... however there are times I have not used front view on purpose to play with perspective a bit. Then you might have to add lights to get rid of nasty shadows here and there.

Play with the level lights.. it helps sometimes if you end up with something too dark. That is why I play in a workshop. Can't screw up the level. So if you are wanting a bit from the level. Capture it and take it to a blank level! Then you can play all you want and end up with something better without messing up your level.

Also keep in mind in the case of level badges, bright contrasting colors work great. The photo also gets distorted as well as cropped a bit and there are some tutorials to help you combat that or help plan for that accordingly.

There are many other things to do and try.. For some stickers and even level badges, I built the scene entirely custom for the badge. Just remember that larger than normal is a good thing.

Experiment!!

Jwwphotos beat me to it. What else can I say... Uhm... Well, you can try to search for level badge tools online for making your first badges, experiment with it and soon you'll be able to do whatever you wish for badges!

The following pic is a badge for my only LBP2 level (no shamless advertising, just the badge, no link):

As you can see, while taking the photo for a level badge contrast as jwwphotos said works well. Try to include symbols and elements that catches people's attention, and PLEASE do not include letters or the level's name in the badge, it is well known you can't distinguish what they say once the badge is online. Remember to use Front View while taking the pic! Another example:

This one is from recent team picked level "Let it Slide". See that nice ribbon around the badge? That is a usual practice among LBPinhabitants, easy to do and works well. Actually you can get a badge creator inside this level if you're good enough and get a good score But there are many more simple ways of getting one of those badge creators tools.

Hummm... If you wish to create customized stickers that aren't rectangle-shaped you can only do so by using the MOVE DLC, with the PSMove. I have no experience in that however, so...

Hope it helped!

There are a few neat things you can do if you have a PS eye and the move pack. The eye doesn't take good pics of real objects, but if you aim it at your computer monitor or turn it to face the TV the pics are good and you can play around with them by using the paint tool.2014-07-19 19:33:00

If you have a PS Move and artistic skills you can then learn to make professional looking stickers like I've done.

Hi, you can also make transparent stickers out of objects and costumes! Here's a helpful video by GlitchMaster7 on how to make them:

Blank level background, slide Fog Color one to the right so it's black, use neon to make your sticker and set it so 40% brightness or whatever brightness you want +10% to compensate for photo darkening.2014-07-25 02:14:00
