Updated 8/19: STAR WARS - Luke's Land Speeder - Feedback Plz

Archive: 27 posts

Started building different things to learn the tools, buildings, scenery, logic and today eventually ended up with Luke's Land Speeder, also known as the X-34 Model.

I am planning on to create a level off of Luke's comment on shooting Womp Rats in Beggar's Canyon on Tatooine. The Land Speeder would be a prize at scoreboard.

Any feedback would be good. Also I need help with the windscreen material. Nothing seems to look right. Any suggestions?

EDIT 7/15/14:
I have since added a Windscreen as shown below. Recognize the object?

Unfortunately I am also dismantling the whole Kart as I need to simplify and reduce the number of grouped objects. I don't want this glitching out later due to the Kart being too complex.

So I have captured the various Land Speeder builds and am now dismantling the Kart in order to rebuild. I have some great ideas which will improve the look in the end with less complexity.

Nice looking speeder. I have no idea for the wind screen though.2014-07-11 03:03:00

Thank you, did a test drive and so far hovers and behaves the way it should. Got a nice weapon on-board too.

Tried cutting glass with an arch so it's small enough for windscreen and not working.

Woah! This looks so realistic. Hope the whole track will be too.

For the Windscreen, unfortunately, there is no Transparent material in LBPkarting. For glasses, i used to take the Chrome material.
Otherwise, you can try some predefined objects. ( for example Onepoppa must have used such an object in his level Museeum of science and art to create very realistic aquarium)

Technically I think this should be in the Help! (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?162-LBPK-Help!) or Ideas and Projects (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?153-LBPK-Ideas-and-Projects) forum sections.

There is no custom object that is transparent. It's really a shame. However, like gipsy said, people (like Onepoppa) sometimes use the predefined objects to mimic windows - particularly the bottle I believe. You may be able to position one or more of those to make it look close to right.

By the way, the land speeder looks awesome! Great detail on the wear and tear and burn marks. This is a custom kart, right? The cockpit is in the actual cockpit? I'm excited to take it for a spin!

I'd agree, with the milk bottle upside down, at about 30?, just depends whether you can hide the neck of the bottle under the speeder. Another option, especially if you are going to be using the driving position as the camera position, would be to forget about the screen as a solid and just create the outline as though it was there, if you see what I mean. Maybe use a lens flare to create a glint?

It is really annoying we didn't get a transpart object in this game. Anyway, that kart looks fantastic! I really hope you come up with an awesome creation 2014-07-12 20:50:00

Thanks for all the positive comments and great suggestions! So many talented and creative people on these forums, I appreciate the feedback.

To answer a few questions the Kart is a 100% Custom Kart with Logic-based Cockpit applied and the Player's Sackling will be in the actual driver's seat. I may look to tweak player size a bit when spawning into the Kart, I have to test more.

I'm away from home right now but the last time I was tinkering with the Kart I could not add anything more, I had tweaked it so much I was not able to add new items - so a windscreen may not be able to be attached anyway.

Also I realized, "The Incredibles" themed DLC had a bubble cockpit, I'm thinking that this DLC is not carried over to Karting.

Is there a way to grab stickers you have already placed? Some items coming off may allow me to add a windscreen of sorts but I can't grab some stickers on the body. I do like the idea of an outline of a windscreen as a suggested windscreen with sun glare.

You can grab and edit stickers with the sticker editor tool. This at the top of the sticker selection menu.2014-07-13 01:51:00

Sorry, I probably wasn't clear in what I meant.

The Sticker Tool is not grabbing the stickers on the body - so the carbon scoring and damage stickers are not highlighting as selectable when I hover over them with the sticker tool.

Is this a glitch? Is there a workaround?

Yup, the sticker tool is a little sensitive when trying to remove stickers, you just have to get it in the right place. There is no workaround that I'm aware of. The only time you can remove immediately is if you were still in 'sticker' mode. The only thing I have found is that the sticker edit in the 'tools' section of the popit sometimes works better, though that may be just my imagination.

What eventually worked for me was I had to quit the game and come back later - it work right away. Not sure why. Have updated OP - found a windscreen that'll do.

Looks good to me! Presume that's the conical flask tipped on it's side?

In answer to your comment underneath the pic, they never do the original photo justice, the resolution is awful when uploaded unfortunately.

A word of advice, though you probably already know this, make sure when you redo the speeder that it isn't too wide. It'll create a problem with the 'hitbox' (the virtual area around the kart that detects impacts). Speaking from recent experience with custom karts it's the last thing you want after creating a great looking vehicle to find it bouncing off walls when it's nowhere near them!

Looking forward to this level.

Yes! Conical Flask, fit better with narrow neck whilst trying to hide bottle.

Also, I have reduced overall Custom Kart size as I suspected it would be causing a glitch of some sort.

Thank you - lots of work to do still. When I put decor in background of Land Speeder shot (as above) it was experimental decor only - looking to build Jabba's Palace, Jawa Sandcrawler (distant view), Sarlacc Pit Trap, etc. etc. Won't spoil all the surprizes!

I published the level briefly to test scale, hitbox on Kart, and handling of Kart - among other things I can't spoil. Took some pix while playing published level and showing them to show Player's scale in Land Speeder.

You'll never guess who I bumped into wandering around Tatooine!
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/1494126/data.jpg
Poor Droid seemed lost! Offered the little guy a lift but all he was programmed to do was beeps & whistles apparently - a Droid/ Programmer language I never studied.
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/1494130/data.jpg
This shot shows the dust plume kicked up by the Land Speeder very well.

Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru's settlement & Moisture Farm! Always something to fix around here!
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/1494128/data.jpg

Strange problems that kicked up have been fixed - for now! Buildings looking to float like helium, whacked camera angles, etc.

What I don't know how to fix is the camera angle moving downward and going down through the floor! Driving across uneven surfaces makes the camera follow and angle dips too low at times. Is there a way to fix this?

Wow! It's looking excellent! Amazing detail. The artistic ability of some of the creators on this game... it's amazing.

As for the camera, I don't know if you can make it dynamic to avoid the ground, but you could try raising and angling it to be farther back so that it doesn't go underground when you're hitting odd angles.

Wow I seriously can't wait to see this published! Rarely a Karting level gets me so hyped! R2-D2 looks pretty cool too! The camera is indeed a little bit glitchy... Are you using a custom camera right? Have you tried tweaking the camera settings differently? I'll have to check out on that to help you more.2014-07-26 18:56:00

Hmmm, I wonder if that dungeon door opens?

Hello everybody, New to Lbpk forum. MaxxAmmo, dude from the first picture in of the landspeeder, to now. Your getting better at the details. you were saying something about 'stickers and not grabbing them'. I ran into that problem too, sticker shifting. had to rebuild, but that landspeeder doesnt look like it has much angles (top, side, front, back build). so a rebuild would have been easiest. how many peices is it? not including 'logic and stickers'. visually im counting about 20ish. also you were saying something also about 'grouping size not getting to big'. there shouldn't be a problem with complexity. as long as whats in the camera view at all times does not exceed a certain amount (i have ran into that problem and you can see it happen in one of my levels for about 5 seconds as the camera shifts from opening movie camera to race camera 'one of the characters head dissapears) i'm guessing 500+ peices in frame and yes these could be behind walls and across the whole track. I'm also intrested in the extent and area that your recreating, are you building some canyons with tusk raiders, or the cantena with han solo and the millenium falcon? you definatly started something thats going to be awsome, just dont rush build it. also are you using custom controls and 'handling tweaker' on the speeder?2014-09-15 04:31:00

Thanx for the nice comments, sorry for late reply but I am traveling and afk. Very afk!

I'll reply more when I get home. My big problem is my Earth got glitches, there are glitches popping up for me in create mode. I may just publish the level "as is" with full copyable level and give my Tatooine objects out so others Sackpeeps can be inspired to create cool STAR WARS levels. I shall see how much more I can accomplish within LBP:K and my glitches! 😄

What glitches?
Are you still having trouble with the camera angle (dipping down and under)? If that happens on a normal camera (preloaded) all you have to do is 'add' a player camera it will automatically modify preloaded. If it happens from a 'added' camera, dont adjust camera just erase and add new one. Or....
You can do a quick add of 9 pieces and make your camera manual controlled (look/tilt up and down and switch front to rearview with a push of a button).

Easy tilt/switch camera:
what you'll need
1. a piece of force field in the shape of a coin
place 'coin' piece close-to or just above your ship' flat side facing forward (close-to or near kart)
2. make "hinge" and tilt 90 degree (hinge angle faces foward) place next to side of coin and attach hinge pin to side (looks like a tilted lollipop)
adjust angle to about 44-60 degree-starting on half (22-30).
3. add first camera to one side of coin facing forward (frontview) -set up required
4. add a second camera on the back side of coin (rearview) -set up required
5. add a "selector" with two outputs (starts on 1), first output for 'front' camera, second output connected to 'back' camera
6. add a 'receiver 1' (blue tag, named "camera switch"), hooked up to "selector- cycle input"
7. add a 'receiver 2' (red tag, named "tilt"), hooked up to "hinge"
8. On your "Kart Controlinator" place two "transmitters". 1st, reciever (blue tag, "camera switch") hook a button, like 'O' to the receiver. 2nd,
(red tag, named "tilt") hook "right toggle up/down" to receiver 2.
9. now group together "camera coin" with "kart/landspeeder" and save object. reloading kart transformer with 'newer kart/landspeeder'
10. test/adjust camera and angles to fit situation (repreating 9-10 until perfected)
What should happen is, you should have tilt control on your camera when you play and when you press "O" it should switch to rear view, pressing "O" again to switch back to forward view.
*1-10 are easy steps, there are more ways to achieve this set up.

Far more serious glitches. If you look at my planet I have two photos which are supposed to be "About me" (glitch), I can't take pictures in any online levels at all, or play any single player online games at all (including my own) unless I copy them to my Moon.

Many glitches appear in create mode which now I'm not sure if they are common to other players or just me. In my Halloween giveaway level I didn't overlap area where a trigger is set so players get explanation text in the HUD - yet it glitches like crazy.

Bottom line is with all these glitches I don't like creating levels - I love creating objects - the level making part, errr, not so much. It get's me pretty frustrated. And it doesn't have to be this bad - but the creators abandoned this game and won't be coming back to improve it - as it seems.

That sucks dude, I just dont want to see a good creator stop creating. I've run into a few 'snags' creating too, my mechanical pieces like to tilt at weird angles sometimes during build (I'm always re-adjusting back to original angle). I havent had the "not able to play" glitch. I like how your specific to starwars, there are many people on here that specialize in specific themes.

What if luke decided not to join in the deathstar mission?
Dont give up.
If all your level objects are custom, have you tried recreating on a fresh level?
It might be a spawnpoint issue. If you have all spawns set to "hoard only" you might have problems (never tried).
If you have all your logic on spawn 1 then copy to make 7 more, you might have logic interference problems.
Or it might be "minium amount of players/max amount of players".
If you posted your level as is, would it be playable or just a dud level? let the community see what sort of problems.
I like testing and building.
My first level, took me about 3 months. Tested every single wall, object, jump, logic, my ultimate goal was to have a glitchless level (no jumping or twitching outside of created level, unbreakable) I succeeded 99.9%, so its possible yours can work too.

Have you ever done a community build?

Update: Have been afk - again. Meaning no computer access. I have since published this level as a Beta & Free copy! Was not completed and a work in progress when I stopped. Many elements can be taken to build a SW level of your own. Please post photos here if you make a SW level using Landspeeder, R2-D2 (or any elements), I'd love to see them!

This was in preparation for the sale of my PS3. Rather then my work on Tatooine lvl being lost forever I decided to publish as unfinished before selling the PS3. I'm still a PlayStation fan and can be found on PS4 now.

Level link:
https://karting.lbp.me/v/z4d3

Enjoy!

Maybe something as ambitious as LBP Karting can be made for the PS4 - the system may be able to handle it without glitching!
