The LittleBigPlanet: Community Battle Trading Card Game

http://i1332.photobucket.com/albums/w616/mrRadical5601/CommunityBattle_zps12b263d9.png

Trindall and mr. Radical present to you a trading card game where members from the LBP community are the cards you'll play with! Using a program called Lackey (download it at Lackeyccg.com), you'll be able to download the 163 card set and battle online with other members of the LBP community.

Here's how to play. Anyone with familiarity with the Pokemon TCG will feel right at home... LBP Community Battle Rulebook (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7427384/LBPTCG/CommunityBattle.pdf)

Here's how to get started: Start Up Manual (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7427384/LBPTCG/LackeyCCGTutorial.pdf)

A few things about the specific community members chosen to become cards…

First off, there’s no way we’d be able to hit every single active community member in a single set unless we wanted to up this thing to like a thousand cards. When you figure that most people in the set have at two or three variations based on how they level up, we’d probably be making cards until LBP4 comes out if we tried to include everyone in the first set.

Second, we specifically held a few big names back on the chance that this thing actually takes off so we can use them to anchor a theoretical second set whenever that would happen. If there’s a name that literally everyone knows but you don’t see them in this, chances are they’ve been short listed for the second set.

Finally, there were two people who assembled this project - Trindall and myself… over the course of almost two years, with some card selection done going as far back as 2009. A lot of who got chosen for this first set is honestly based on who we’ve had interactions with, and also the time periods when we were most active. Same goes for how some cards will have attacks and details that seem more personal than others. If this makes it to a second set of cards, we WILL seek input from the community in one way or another to see what cards you think should be included. There will also be ways for all types of community members to make it into the set as well.

Organized Play and Collecting

While everyone who downloads the program and plugin will have access to all cards and be able to play whenever, however, and against whomever they want, we want to keep one element of the trading card experience alive - amassing your own collection of cards. To make collecting worthwhile, certain organized play nights will only let players use cards they’ve officially collected.

To get people building their collections, we will be giving out “booster packs” of cards to players within the LBP community. We’ll be doing this in different ways. Maybe we’ll post on twitter with the first 10 retweets getting a pack. Sometimes we’ll give out packs for those who participate in certain contests in the community. Whatever the method of distribution, here’s how the packs will work.

Each booster pack contains 10 cards. 6 common, 3 uncommon, and 1 rare.
We’ll use a random number generator to determine what cards you get.
We’ll pick 6 numbers from 1-34 for the common cards and 3 from 1-42 to determine your uncommon cards.

Rares have a different roll. Non-holo rares will be twice as likely to show up as holo rares. Non-holos will have two spots each in the rare numbers to increase their likelihood of showing up the the rare spot. 1-54 will produce a regular rare, and 55-74 will produce a holo Rare.

Special cards numbered after the main cards in a set have a special criteria to show up and will replace the rare in a pack if they do.

We’ll keep a publicly viewable document showing each player’s collection. In organized play, players can only use cards they officially have. In random play, players can do whatever the heck they want.

Players may make trades. For a trade to be official, it must go through the game staff. Trades either need to be done live in front of a staff member, or both players must post in the trading thread clearly explaining the trade. We’ll do our best to keep the collection records up to date, with a minimum of one update per week, and guaranteed updates before any organized competition.

Organized play will take place on predetermined nights throughout the year. Once a night is determined, we’ll make sure we’ve got a handful of staff members available to monitor player matches. Prizes will be available at certain organized play competitions.

All the info you'll need to play is contained in the two manuals. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask away. There's a thread for the game on LBPCentral, LittleBigPlanetarium, and LittleBigNetwork. I'll be posting updates in all three threads and on my twitter account @mrradical5601. I'll be online in Lackey for most of the day if anyone wants to battle. Anyone who manages to get an actual battle in will get 5 booster packs to start off your collection.

The first tournament will be a round robin tournament, and the winner will get 10 booster packs and a $10 PSN card. The tournament will take place on August 3, and sign ups will be posted shortly before.

Edit 7/9/14 7:25 PM Eastern:

Alright, thanks to a recent change on Dropbox's side the updatelist.txt file that LackeyCCG uses for automatic updates and installation isn't working correctly. I'm looking for the author to fix this at some point.

An alternate method to download and install the plugin is as follows:

Download the zip file for the size of cards you would like to have using one of the links listed below.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7427384/LBPTCG/LBPTCG_Maximum.zip
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7427384/LBPTCG/LBPTCG_High.zip
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7427384/LBPTCG/LBPTCG_Medium.zip

Extract the contents of the zip file to the folder where you have LackeyCCG.

example: LackeyCCG.exe is in the C:LackeyCCG folder. Extract the LBPTCG_Maximum.zip folder to C:LackeyCCG

If prompted to overwrite any files you should tell it to overwrite the destination files.

Wait, LbP dating sim? Did I miss something?

Anyway, I never did do much in the beta. I could try and learn it and attempt that tournament, but my Internet is down at the moment. Whee!

A LBP trading card game done in the style of Pok?mon? The nostalgia alone is awesome.

Won't join right away but this is something that looks interesting.

Wanted to check on what you've already done so we can get this working for you.

You've downloaded the latest client here, yes?

>> LackeyCCG for Windows (http://www.lackeyccg.com/LackeyCCGBetaWin.zip)
>> LackeyCCG for Mac (http://www.lackeyccg.com/LackeyCCGBetaMac.zip)

You run the LackeyCCG program and then go to the Plugin tab and then copy/pasted one of these lines into the Install URL field, yes?

http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7427384/LBPTCG/Medium/updatelist.txt
http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7427384/LBPTCG/High/updatelist.txt
http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7427384/LBPTCG/Maximum/updatelist.txt

Then you press the Install or Update from URL button to the right and then get the error/timeout, yes?

What does the timeout text say? Are you maybe copy/pasting extra text from the tutorial PDF?

While we work on that issue with the plugin... Here's a quick workaround for anyone looking to get started.

Go here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-0Dzz1VB6WgQThvWDhiQm9kU0U/edit?usp=sharing Click file, download, and you'll get a compressed folder called LBPTCG.

Once you unzip it, take the folder you find and place it in the Plugins folder inside the Lackey folder. Restart the client and you should be up and running.

Better instructions available in the first post and Trindall's post for any who still need help...

The Beta left me incredibly impressed, this is one of the biggest community projects I've ever seen. Maybe crown worthy I'll surely spend some time in this game, and I highly recommend everyone to check it out!2014-07-09 20:10:00

Looking good! Looks like it's had a lot of work put into it, I'll have to figure out the rules.
I downloaded everything, and got it working. Then a Samsung employee phoned me up literally half an hour later telling me when they fix my busted CD drive on my laptop next week they'll be wiping my entire hard drive as well. Typical, eh? Still, should be easy enough to re-download everything.

I've been showing some of the cards in the set on my Twitter account @mrradical5601 Here's some of what's been posted.

And for anyone asking about a second set, the only way it happens is if there's enough activity with the game with the first set. Make it happen.

This really seems like a cool idea. The cards look awesome! I know nothing of card games, so I'm going in without any idea how to play lol. I'll look at the guide to get an idea.

I got the LackeyCCG up and running. I tried uploading a screenshot of it. Hopefully it works

There seems to be quite a few people who are a bit overwhelmed by all the rules and learning how to play but I think that it may look more complex at the outset than it actually is.

There is a lot of nuance and strategy that can come into play for at the heart the game mechanics are pretty straightforward. You can jump into play after learning the order of actions in a turn and have a lot of fun with just the core rules. Playing is an easy way to start learning the smaller rules that come into play the other 20% of the time.

Cheers

I'm glad people have been able to install Lackey and get this card game up and running.

Thanks to an update from the creator of LackeyCCG it is now even easier to get the LBPTCG card game set up.

If you already have LackeyCCG installed and running it is very easy to update. In the same folder as the LackeyCCG.exe file is another executable called LackeyCCG Updater.exe. Just run this and click on the "Install or Update" button and all the needed files will be updated with the new versions.

-----

There are many options available now for anyone wanting to get this set up if you don't already have it installed. If you download and install the PC or Mac version of LackeyCCG from http://lackeyccg.com/

You can follow exactly the instructions in the Lackey tutorial PDF that mr Radical has attached in the first post. You can enter the download URL in the Plugin tab of Lackey and either let the program download the card artwork on the fly, as needed, or have it download all card artwork at once.

The download URLs to use for auto-updating inside LackeyCCG are:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7427384/LBPTCG/High/updatelist.txt
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7427384/LBPTCG/Maximum/updatelist.txt
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7427384/LBPTCG/Medium/updatelist.txt

All you need to do is use the URL for the card resolution you want. Using this method will also allow you to get updated files as they are added to the card set though Lackey.

-----

If downloading LackeyCCG and getting the cards installed is too much of a hassle then we've done the work for you. (So far for PC only.)

You can download one of the compressed files below, extract it and then simply run the LackeyCCG.exe in the extracted folder and you'll be ready to go. (Once you enter a name for use with online play.)

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7427384/LBPTCG/LackeyCCG_High.rar
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7427384/LBPTCG/LackeyCCG_Maximum.rar
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7427384/LBPTCG/LackeyCCG_Medium.rar

If you have any questions on the technical side of things don't hesitate to ask and we'll do what we can to help you out.

Cheers.
