I would love to participate, so sign me in. We need more people though, so if anyone has the ability to make a music level, DON'T be scared to join in, there's really no pressure.

I've always wanted a music contest! Thanks for putting this out there man!

I already have 2 original music levels. But they're just really experiments, both are based on loops, and in one of them you can trigger the next loop.
If I had the time I'd love to put the effort in and make a ******* song that the player can control by setting off the different loops in whatever order he wants. BUT right now... exams exams exams....... (-_-")

Also, are you accepting any more judges? I've got a great ear for music, and I'd love to help out.

You know, the one thing I've learned during my stay at lbpcentral is to never underestimate this community. Because every time I have, I was proven 100% WRONG! So I honestly think I have good competition here.

Thanks for the offer, but what i've already got are two simple experiments, that need to be builded on.

But I'm looking forward to hearing some great tunes coming from you guys!!

I really wish Mm would release a new music pack, with instruments (especially drums for some serious drum n' bass/electro music), stickers, heck maybe even guitars for the little sackboys. I think a pack like that would sell loads just as a standalone.

Man oh man, I agree 100%!!!

Even if the sounds weren't exactly of the best quality, I would still love it. Brass, strings, more percussion instruments.... and what I would love most of all is a way to control the volume, so I could put in some crescendos and decrescendos when needed.

A sound pack is a must for the nerdy music enthusiast like me!

Hey Rajah I just played your Starfox music level and a few of yur other ones.. Really impressive stuff man. Yur music has way better structure and is a lot more dense than most attempts which just involve a piano and a sponge.....

I'm just finishing up a Zoo level i've been working on for a while now.. but when i'm done with that and exams, I'll definitely have a shot at an original music level!!

i would like to hear someone make a metal song but i really care what genre it is as long as it's a good quality song. and remember judges don't give a song extra points to a song just because it's your genre or take away points just because you like it's genre.
(i'll explain the scoring process to you guys later)

I've already started working on my composition. You really can't classify it into any specific genre... it's sounds more videogamey than anything else... It actually sounds like something you would hear on a Mega Man game!

It sounds pretty dope. Can't wait to finish it so you guys can hear it.

Oh I just remembered this competition was still going, cause I've started working on a music level. Now that I've started I'd say I have a fair chance of finishing it and submitting in the next week or 2.

Is it okay to submit a level where its up to the player what way the song flows??

My set up is, about 4 or 5 different looped parts of the song.
The player is then able to trigger them, in sync with eachother of course, and change the flow of the music. Also the song will never end, so when the player's done messing around with the different themes of the music he can just go to the scoreboard and finish. The loops aren't just like a couple of notes on a piano, they're about 2 bars each and pretty dense, ie lots of instruments.

Hi i will join.

just recently got into making music on LBP. I already have one level that ses custom music. If you guys want to heck that out it is called "Jumper: The Red Zone" andmy PSNiis "deboerdave". But that is not the level i would like to submit. I just made a new song and seperated all the loops out so you can turn each sound off and on. This level is called "LBP dubb" and i would like to submi this level. It is currently published so you can check it out, but i plan on adding some more lighting effects, so when that s done i will delete it and republish it.

if we can enter more than one entry i might break down the music in my Jumper: The Red Zone level in a simlar fashion where you can turn on and off each loop.

Level: "LBP Dubb"
PSN: "deboer dave"

i will enter LBP Dubb then. When does the judging start as i am curently working on some light effects then i will be republishing some time in the next two days (hopefully should finish that tonight actually). The music is all done but these lights are my final touches. should i repost here after i have that done.2009-03-11 22:25:00

The lights don't really make any difference(not part of the judging score..), so I've come to the conclusion.

Deboerdave will recieve an eight from astrosimi.
It would have been a ten, since I've never seen a level like this before, and I think this is an awesome concept you got here.
However, the two main cons are-
-It's only a loop
-The music doesn't sound very smooth if you turn on all the switches.

But I must say I am very impressed. Good job.

no problem, i asssumed that the judging wouldnt start till the submission period was over actually, so the judges would have all the matrial on had so can pick there favorites. if not like that i am sure all the contestent would be interested in how the judging is going to work to decide the winner (i dont recall seeing this info in any of the post).

Anyway, i know that the lighting doesnt matter but i would just like to let you all know that i released the version with the lighting effects if you want to check it out agian. it came out pretty cool i have lights set up for each insturment and synced up.

I suppose if its interactive music, the lights have some importance! I've got synced up lights for mine too.

I'm seriously considering entering... i just did my first music level... and its almost finished, but its not original... so i'll give it a go on making something original.

Does the execution matter? for instance, will i be judged lower if mine isnt interactive? or is this just based on the actual song?

based on the actual song. i would rather have have a non-interative song so it would be easier to judge but both kinds are aloud. and remember you have until march 30th to enter.2009-03-13 13:37:00

Hehe.. i've been working away slowly at it. All the music stuff is done, I'm just making the level more accessible and enjoyable to play. I've got a project thread for it (see my sig) ^^

Ye I'd really like to see Jollyrajah's one, he said he was working on it, but I don't think he's been on here much so ya never know ?_?

All his music levels so far are real songs just transposed into LBP, so I'd like to see what kinda music he'd compose himself.

Mines UP!

Level Name: Making Music in the Midnight Kitchen
PSN: Pitcard
Descripiton: Its an interactive music level. The player is free to set off each loop, and string them together... making a song! There are 5 different loops. But there is also the rest of the kitchen. You can crack some eggs, bounce on a bin lid, and let the toaster go PING! To add to the music.

Showcase thread will be up soon. So if anyone wants to give feedback, I'm open to suggestions!

Woot! managed to finish.

Level Name: Yaru's Darkness (Custom Song) <--- (couldn't think of anything else in such short notice )
PSN: Yarudark

This isn't a loop, its a simple one go song, the level itself is quite empty as i didn't have time to do anything but the song in such short notice, but this contest is about the song itself that shouldn't matter much anyways right?

not to worry your still part of the contest. i think i mentioned this in a previous post.

also to everyone who wanted to enter but wasn't able to or missed the deadline, i by most chances (90%) will make another music contest. so wait until then and you can enter. also if you entered this one feel free to enter the next on.

also i'll make a new thread announcing the winner and the all the scores. i'll make it as soon as zommy and astromi (sorry if i spelled your name wrong) send me their scores.

Thanks for teh winz.

Just curious.. is there a XP prize for this contest? No worries anywho, I'm pretty much at 1000 so I can buy teh expansion bundle yoke.

I'm thinking about making a recommended thread for Music Levels from members of lbpc and maybe some other lbp creators if I find any that are particularly good.

I'll have a description for each one, and maybe a short review or something.

I can get all the names and stuff I need from this thread. But if anyone else sees this and has some music levels they wanna share, PM me the level name, and your psn!

Thanks again superBlast for hosting this competition, probably wouldn't have had the motivation to make another music level without it
