Floatopia

Archive: 5 posts

So, here I am again posting about my "first" level. I had Temple Troubles in lbp, Second Hand City in lbp2 and now I present to you Floatopia in lbpv.

It is a short level that can be completed quite quickly but can become addictive as a time trial so race through the clouds and watch out that you do not hit the ground.

As I say its my first vita level so be prepared for everything to go wrong... be gentle with me vita community... please =p

Ah yes the scent of a new level. Your first one you say? Awesomesauce! Got it queued on the top of everything

Edit: Oh this was nice. I have some recommendations for you. First of all let me say it is quite the best first-creation of someone I've ever seen. Now, to improve it, I listed a couple of things:

1) In Vita there is some kind of glitch that makes music start usually a couple of seconds late, so maybe you could make the player wait a little before starting the level. Neh, not really anything important here.

2) I liked the fact you didn't use infinite checkpoints, but the first section of the race was too unpredicatble So you could die a lot very easily. A bigger camera angle or some signs might prevent that. Using ice on Vita is quite tricky, I actually played with the concept in one of my Vita levels. Just remember not everyone will know the level as you, so try to be considerate up to a certain point with everybody else.

3) Ah this is very important. Make sure all your level's sections are replayable. The last obstacle could get very easily stuck, so players that fail to complete the challenge on the first try might get stuck right before the ending :kz: Not something you'd want to promote in your level design. Be very careful with that specific obstacle, the one with the sponge going down with the birds.

4) Ah the graphics were beautiful! If I may say so, I'd recommend you to focus a little bit more on gameplay for your next work. This one was quite awesome but it could still be improved and a little more focused on a certain theme. The graphics, again, top-notch

As one of my friends used to say, keep creating! Bright future you have :arg:

Thanks, I am working on a slightly updated version with some fixes for issues I found post publishing. Should be up soonish. I'm also open to extending the level a bit more as I quite liked the setting.

Also, just in my defence, and if this makes any difference, I've only completed like 2 zones in story mode so I have virtually nothing to work with =p

Update list:

The entrance has been replaced by an infinite checkpoint to give players a chance at the unpredictable jumps

The last obstacle has been fixed so it is totally re-playable
