Using the Sack Pocket.

Archive: 15 posts

The new Sack Pocket, if you already didn't know, allows you to use the new powerup creator tool to carry items over to other levels, we can presume these items can be restricted somehow, just in case a level can be completely broken by getting a powerup early, or maybe restrict some created by certain creators or you, the level creator itself.

I plan to make a few platforming levels in LBP1,2 and 3 that eventually unlock other minigame-esque levels. if you get a certain amount of points in that minigame, you can unlock some powerups I create for advantages in community levels and (if it's possible) story levels! Obviously, these powerups would be limited, and they wouldn't be overpowered where it goes into an unused layer in a level and you can just run across the top...

But, my main question is: How are YOU going to use this powerup creator and Sack Pocket to your advantage?
Are you going to use them in your own levels, or are you going to use them to cheat your way through story levels!?

Hmm, that's not how I understood it. I thought it let you carry more than one power-up (including custom created ones) at the same time through the whole level, to switch between and remove/re-apply at will. This way all the control is in the hands of the level creator, as it has always been. I mean, they're not going design something that obviously lets you cheat story levels (bugs aside).

To get unlocks to save across levels you could still use the Memorizer, though.

It sounds pretty useless in terms of the things I make honestly. I can't remember when I last used a powerup in a level...2014-06-30 00:37:00

Pretty sure that's what it is as well.

I'd probably use this for a dungeon-esque type level for dungeon keys and tools/weapons such as a sword, torch, ETC.

How I understood it is that it will work similarly to a bot with powers that currently exist now, things can be toggled, and restricted; custom timings and restrictions can be put in place so only strategic power-ups can be used at certain times, and if any level breaking is to occur, it is because of a power-up made badly (like when double jump fails in a bot, and you can get out of a map by hugging a wall as a pseudo-floor impacting trigger)

But overall I think it will be a heavily in-game influenced tool, that will be used strategically used in order to prevent breaking, or oversimplification of levels

My thoughts are mostly guess based, but they are made off of facts from trailers, for example

Still a pickup at this point

Thanks for not being all TL;DR (might've hit some good info in here)

Could be useful. I've got a level that constantly needs to emit/remove powerups, but of course since they take up space they sometimes don't spawn if you have a ceiling above your head.2014-07-30 16:30:00

Its most likely just carrying around all the powerups that are available in the level, not bringing in your own custom powerups.
If that was the case, we would see scoreboards messed up as a player would cheat to get 4,000,000 points (maximum amount) by bringing in a powerup that emits score givers...
Just an example.

I bet someone will find a overlord glitch of somekind with the sackpocket though, in the first few weeks at least

Like I said, it will probably be just storing powerups that are in the level, and when you leave, its contents will be lost.

Wait, so is this a powerup that stores powerups? So, can I store like 8 sackpockets in my sackpocket and in each of those 8 sackpockets store 8 more? Of course I can't. That would be ridiculous. Ridiculously AWESOME!2014-07-31 03:19:00

I expect it as an inventory for that level, that stores the power ups that the creator has decided are available in that level.

It's the only thing that makes sense really. Considering that you have more ability to make custom power ups, it could do away with needing complex sackbot, camera control, follower, and collision logic to accomplish all but the most complex of tasks.

I would hope that it the power ups could be triggered by logic as well, and that you can assign power ups to costume pieces (which with my limited understanding of the power up creator seems possible).

It means that I can make a sword/shield power up and the would appear on your sackpeson's costume when selected through an inventory, or automatically based on the action.

Rough example; a player jumps off a cliff towards a wall of ice; a pickaxe will appear in their hand (based on a tag on the wall, or the player pressing 'O&apos, and then disappears when they finish climbing up the wall.

But in LBP3 you'll be able to make your own

I tend to make more scenery based levels, so I would probably use it to just give the players a few toys to have fun. I have been working on some RPG's so I would end up using it as a way to change items easily as well. I'm sure I'd find some other uses as I think of new ideas.2014-08-04 04:22:00
