Quicksand Material

Archive: 6 posts

Basically, if you stand in it, you sink into it. Object can also sink in it as well. The point is to add more platform gameplay, and you could even for hiding secrets. The appearance could be damp hermit crab sand with changeable color.

Good idea?
(It would also be a good idea for you to be able to jump up through it so you could get back up so you don't get stuck at a certain point of a level using it)

This is one of the ideas I put forward a long time ago that the dephysicaliser chip could be used for. Make several thin layers of material, attach a deactivated dephysicaliser chip to each layer, set player sensor to just over minimum and activate each dephysicaliser chip when the player is in range. Instant quicksand.2014-06-29 12:06:00

I think making it so it is a tool instead of a material, then we can have quicksilver and stuff, so we can hide secrets. Because having it being a different material would make it obvious if you weren't using a similar-looking material.

Edit: They could make it a liquidizer tool that could make the material look runny (if you wanted to, as an option) and maybe have the ability to place objects in it, so you could hide hidden prize bubbles, or make it so you would have to mash X rapidly to survive the plasma floor below, by jumping up inside. It would act like if the world had less gravity while inside the material, and maybe have a 10 second drowning rate, so you couldn't stay for long. could make for some amazing levels!

Actually, the tool sounds like it would a lot better in practice because it would allow for a lot more creativity.

Now that you say that, I actually agree. It would allow for some amazing intricate level designs, and the tool would allow for new types of things.
I think they could make it a "liquidizer" that makes the material all runny and melted(If you wanted to, it would be an option of course).

Though, that comes with a minor issue. If it only has a set speed for objects to enter it, it could be limiting. If you could tweak how fast the object enters the liquidized material, it could be used for specific purpose. For example, let's say we have a slime enemy. The only way to kill it is to hit in in the heart with a projectile. If it's set and too slow, it would be a bad design. However, if you could customize it to where objects go into the liquidized material faster, it could be used to make the enemy unique without it being bad design.

Perhaps we could also make it where you could set the Liquidizer to be hazardous, so if Sackboy enters it and his whole body is inside the quicksand, he would die within an editable amount of time.
