Create Marathon 5: Signups and Information [TEAMS INSIDE]

The date of the event is going to be July 26th(Saturday) and July 27th (Sunday), 2014.

Hello everyone and welcome to the FIFTH (Wow am I really saying fifth?) CREATE MARATHON! For those who want to skip the boring stuff and get right to the nitty-gritty deets; you'll find the sign-up information at the end of this post. If you're new and want to know exactly what this event is all about, keep reading! I'll be sure to cover everything and try to answer any questions you may have below.

So, what IS the Create Marathon, exactly?


The Create Marathon is an event that brings creators together from all over to create a level within a 24 hour time frame. Every creator that signs up will be placed into a team, and a group of 3 other creators, which will be their create partners for the entire event.

Let's quickly go over what makes up a Team:


A TEAM is made up of 3 groups, each group housing 4 creators. A single creator from each group will be the Group Leader, who will host the session and who will be in charge of handing off the level after their group's shift. In order to be a group leader/session host, you MUST have all of the listed DLC and a stable connection. If a group leader position sounds like something you can do, please specify in your sign up post!

All 3 groups work on the same level in 2 separate sessions, each session spanning 4 straight hours of create time. When the session is finished, the group sends the level off to the next group in line. This means each group will have an 8-hour break before their second shift begins, so don't worry about being worn out!

If the group rotation cycle is still confusing (Probably) consult this timeline:

GROUP 1 ---> GROUP 2 ---> GROUP 3 ---> GROUP 1 ---> GROUP 2 ---> GROUP 3 ---> Done!
(This goes for both teams)
(If this doesn't help, you can always ask for clarification!)



RULES:

In order to ensure that this event doesn't go into chaos (We've had a few rough patches!) We have to enforce a few rules that may be new to the event. They are listed below, and you MUST obey them if you wish to participate. (Please?)


1: DO NOT USE ANY DLC that is not in the permitted DLC list at the bottom of this post. We're sorry for imposing this, but we need to ensure that each group can access the level in create mode!

2: Ensure that during your shift, you stick to the theme that is pre-decided, and that you don't make it impossible for the next group to continue it! (I.E; Be as thermo-friendly as possible, stay on topic, and leave notes explaining things like custom logic that may be difficult to understand!)

3: Custom music is allowed, but remember that it must be created DURING the event, and that you should also be contributing to building the level as well, and you might not have time to finish the song.

4: Your co-operation skills, ability to create with others, and responsibility will be tested in an event such as this, so try to be the best team player you can! Sitting in a corner and creating by yourself isn't the point of this event!

5: YOU MUST BE RELIABLE! Make sure you are ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that you can make it to each shift, your co-operation in this regard is incredibly important, as finding replacements may be difficult last minute! If you happen to be late, or have to leave during your shift, we will call up a replacement for you. A replacement creator will not be chosen at random. Since the sign-ups are based on a first-come, first-serve basis, replacements will be selected from the pool of people who may not have signed up in time to reserve an official spot.

6: ABSOLUTELY NO, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES IS ANY CREATING FOR THE MARATHON OUTSIDE OF YOUR SHIFT PERMITTED. This rule is in place because other creator's visions and influence on the level may not be felt if it is overpopulated by things made by creators who are "working overtime". Please follow this rule as best you can, and if for any reason, you are absolutely CERTAIN that you MUST work outside of your shift, contact a Create Marathon overseer (Grayspence, KlawwtheClown, Themonkeyblade), and the rest of your team before starting ANY work outside of your shift.

7: Please be considerate of every creator's vision for the level. It wouldn't be right to completely change something the previous group has done just because you don't like it!


Now that all that serious stuff is out of the way; here comes the fun part!


Sign-ups



Sign ups will be dealt with on a first-come, first-serve basis. Those who make it in too late to get a concrete spot will need to keep in mind that they might be called upon to be back-up creators.

All you have to do to secure a spot is:

- Give us the PSN you intend to use in this event.

- Give us your time-zone. (GMT-/+ ___ would be nice as well.)

-Specify if you can be a Group Leader/Session Host. (Keep in mind, you will need ALL of the DLC in the DLC list and a stable connection to be suitable for this role!)

Important Note:

If you'd like to get a spot, be sure to sign up quickly! Spots go quite fast, and this time the thread will be posted on more than one LBP fan-site.
Please follow the above guidelines if you'd like to sign up. If you miss a requirement in your post, your application will not be considered. Sorry!

The theme of this event is....

FAIRY TALES

That's right! This time around, your team is tasked with creating a level surrounding a fairy tale! You can either base the level around an existing fairy tale, or take a creative plunge and create your own! Just remember; most Fairy tales teach the reader a lesson!

Ugh I really want to do one of these, I'm doing the Rotation Creation this this week and it's pretty cool so I know I'd enjoy this, but I have no idea where I will be at the end of July. Especially at the weekend Might have to wait until the next one. Or actually until you do one for LBP3 because I more than likely will only have my PS4 with me by then. Once I have a PS4.

Do the teams account for lag that might occur when players are in different countries?
-I have high-speed internet but if anyone from the states joins me (I'm in UK), there tends to be a lot of delays.

Do you need to remain in contact with every other member (i.e. through the forums)?

How does the creation process work?
- Does every member have a specific role/ build separate objects?
- Does every player input ideas or do we follow the groundwork set by previous teams?

-Yep! We'll get everything working for everyone as best we can. Don't worry about it!

- You only need to keep in contact with the group you are placed in. Your group leader will contact other groups. Still, keep an eye on twitter for updates

- Does every member have a specific role/ build separate objects?

-Nope! You just go with the flow. You decide if you want a specific role or not!

Does every player input ideas or do we follow the groundwork set by previous teams?

- Well, yes and no. You can go nuts with your creativity, but we would like it if you stayed at least stayed on topic (i.e If the last area the group made was a swamp, don't make a rainbow candy kingdom! haha.)

Honestly, creating in a group really isn't much different than creating alone. What has happened in the past in my experience has been that at the start of each shift we kinda just float around and decide what we want to aim to get done during the shift. If we have to work on logic, we get someone who's strong at logic to work away at that. Some might want to make a character or try to progress the story by working on a set of speech bubbles, or design a gameplay piece. They simply do that, and all the while just kind of hanging out with their group members.

If someone asks for help, go help em! If someone wants the group to test their logic, go do that! It's really just a fun and free-flowing experience all in all. Even if you've never worked in a group before, I have no doubt that you'll be able to handle this event just fine. Nobody's expecting you to be the best creator ever or anything! yesterday morning I was making dinner and I couldnt open a can because of the crappy can opener. it got about 90% of it but I couldnt open it because of 2 sides wernt opened so there was a gap in my canopeners logic. So I got a knife and tried wedging it open that didnt work. So I grabed it with my hand and pulled it open as it opened my finger went into the lid and now I have a 1 inch deep cutt in my right pointerfinger. I went to the hospital and got it cleaned out and its all bandgaed up and glued shut so yeah :'(2014-07-23 05:53:00

Just a little reminder:

Now that the levels are team picked, they will be drawing in quite a bit of hate. Just don't bother looking at the reviews anymore if you want to keep faith in the competence of others. Seriously, they get really awful, really quick. They don't bother reading the description and take it upon themselves to leave reviews about how undeserving these levels are just because one or two things break. Ignore 'em.
