WIP Pinball level

Archive: 13 posts

Suggestions please.

Have hit a creator's block!

Have created a pinball table, have quite nice metal cage ball runs (for off track excursions), bumpers and bumper run throughs.

Also, you play as the ball. But, having created a quite intricate track, I've started questioning whether this should be a track, or an arena level. Surely the idea with pinball is you can be bounced anywhere, without the constant resetting you get with a track.

I created this as 'reverse' pinball meaning you need to avoid the bumpers, which take score away, but go for ball runs which add score on.

Stumped!

Any Ideas...suggestions would be gratefully received.

This probably should be in help section, but wasn't sure.

A checkpoint race setting could give you the race track vibe while also allowing you to bounce around without being reset.2014-06-23 19:33:00

That's good, that's very good. One problem, the track took me hours to level with the table (as it runs sloped), I'd have to ditch that completely.

I've never published a track that's so incomplete, but maybe that's the way to go and see what everyone thinks?

Moving on....

Have switched off the auto reset. That solves that problem.

Have just created some simple knock down blocks, bump into them a couple of times, they disappear and reveal shortcuts/bonus areas.Pics now below.

Run through bumpers, touch the bumpers, negative score, go straight through, positive score.

Knock down blocks, plus also shows partial cage ball run, unfinished as yet

Will be laying scoring points flat on the pinball table surface, just deciding how they're going to activate/deactivate as I don't want them permanently accessible.

Worryingly I have my next creation in mind and that's hampering my progress with this.

Looks really impressive so far - great concept too!

You could publish a Beta and just call it that, explain it's a WIP.

One of the unfortunate flaws to LBP:K is that the level most likely won't be stumbled upon by random Sackfolk.

So you'll get user feedback, Unpublish - fix, lather, rinse, repeat, etc.

Since there is no shared Create mode it may be a good way to get feedback.

Ramp, not sure yet whether this will be accessible from the start yet.

Very cool! what keeps you in the ball cage?

Had lots of fun creating these. Although I've created tunnels before, I'd never tried a complete hoop, and found that you can't! If you make a complete circle the game considers it solid and won't let you drive, or in this case roll, through it. The answer to your question though is it has forcefield material just slightly smaller than the outer hoops, again not a complete circle, within the cage runs, as a tube.

Really? That's odd. I'm pretty sure I've done a square hoop before and driven through it... maybe I'm misremembering.

All I can say is, I tried it numerous different ways with complete hoop, piston attached, changed to scenery etc which worked but even the slight movement was causing issues with the line up of the tubing. The hoop with just a slight nick out of it, which is covered by the side bars anyway, seemed to fix the issue. Also this means, less motors, less thermo usage!

Update, looks likely this level may be heading for the bin. Despite repeated attempts to resolve the problem, suddenly the ball cage runs just blow you up everytime you try to go through them. They have been working perfectly until recently, and by recently I mean up until the thermo got to 2/3rds full. It's a real shame as they are an integral part of the level, I could do away with them and try something different? Not sure what that would be though. Any ideas??

Edited post, see above. Have been having these posting glitches, so thought I'd put this up so sackfolk know I'm still working on it, the pinball level I mean.

Level now completed, hopefully glitches all sorted!
