And the winners are..... The Floor is Hot Lava! By sevenSixteen http://ps3media.ign.com/ps3/image/article/954/954711/littlebigplanet-20090217012302145.jpg Why it gets a nod: Even in this day and age of constant electronic stimulation, it's hard to find a kid that hasn't played "Hot Lava" -- you know, the game where your carpet is a fiery substance and you have to make it across your living room without touching it. That's the exact game sevenSixteen has created in LBP except that he's using real fire. Yes, "The Floor is Hot Lava!" challenges you to get Sackboy around his parent-less house without touching the flaming floor beneath you. You'll need to swing from the lights, drag couch cushions around, and deal with an out of control kitchen. It's simple, fun, and challenging. Count Sackula's Castle By XianSolomus http://ps3media.ign.com/ps3/image/article/954/954711/littlebigplanet-20090217012304239.jpg Why it gets a nod: Everyone loves a vampire level in LBP, but what makes Count Sackula's Castle stand out is the fact that the supreme evil is about three years old. Yes, Count Sackula is just some kid's photo with fangs added in. That's awesome. The platforming is fun, too -- you need to make your way to the top of a giant clock and set it for midnight to advance in the level -- but it's the fact that the count is a kid and has his portrait on a stained-glass window that cracks me up. The IGN Blogs Collaboration By juvi008ok http://ps3media.ign.com/ps3/image/article/954/954711/littlebigplanet-20090217012258911.jpg Why it gets a nod: So, there are a lot of IGN-inspired levels out there, but I haven't posted any here because they weren't that great and I didn't want to come off as some biased fool. However, when I ran into juvi008ok's work, I felt it needed to be posted. See, this is pretty short and simple level filled with IGN trivia and logos, but what's cool about it is the fact that juvi008ok created it based on responses to his IGN blog. He called for ideas, his fellow bloggers responded, and this level was born. That's creative and something that needs to be applauded. Sure, there's a Fran Mirabella reference and my face chasing you down a slope, but the nifty part of this is how it was created. Jack McSetback & the Spiky Stone of Doom By Wyth http://ps3media.ign.com/ps3/image/article/954/954711/littlebigplanet-20090217012300395.jpg Why it gets a nod: The last Indiana Jones movie sucked, but you can always remember the good old days in LBP levels such as Wyth's Jack McSetback & the Spiky Stone of Doom. Here, Jack enters a temple with the simple goal of grabbing an idol, but after the snatch, the room begins to shrink like a trash compactor and the race to get the hell out of Dodge is on. You'll need to swing over fire pits, navigate platforms, and deal with a whole bunch of temple trouble to get Jack back. It's a good-looking level that's worth a shot for any would-be adventurer. Freddy Mercury's TreeHouse v1.2 By Kung_Fu_Russ http://ps3media.ign.com/ps3/image/article/954/954711/littlebigplanet-20090217012256927.jpg Why it gets a nod: OK, so Kung_Fu_Russ misspelled Freddie Mercury's name, but this level is still the hotness. The setup is simple: Mercury lives in a tree house and something is causing the tree to shake and drop its nuts. You need to climb up the structure, make your way past George Michael's nest, see the Elton John photo, and stop this miscarriage of nut justice. All of that is awesome? just awesome. Gaaah, I feel like they're missing out on so many amazing levels! Wyth's is definitely amazing, no problems there, but the rest feel like they just found them randomly instead of actually looking for the great levels that are out there. Oh well, big grats on the feature Wyth | 2009-02-20 21:28:00 Author: superezekiel Posts: 120 |
