Frame animation

Archive: 6 posts

Hi everyone.
Hope your all having a good day.
I have a problem that's bugging me. When I do frame animation using sticker panel I seem to always get a ugly flicker in preview mode. Its not game breaking, but annoying. All the logic and that works fine (eg- character starts looking right- move any direction and he has a walk animation in that direction, then he stops and stands looking in that direction).
However, as its cycling through the walk frames, it keeps flickering to the next frame.
I have tried loads of ideas to fix it:- selectors, sequencers but its still there.

Any help or suggestions how to get a seamless animation would be really appreciated.

thanks everyone

I've had this problem as well, haven't worked with it in a while but here's the fix I came up with back then - hopefully it still works (taken from this tutorial: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=73706-Artistic-Levels-without-Lag)

Animation Flicker (Sticker Panel)
If you create an animation using a Sequencer, you may notice a flicker when it loops. As of yet I don't know a way to fix this aside from omitting the Sequencer all together and using a Selector and a Timer instead.
Connect each output of the Selector to a frame of your animation, in order - output 1 to the first frame, etc. Connect the Timer's output to its own reset, and also to the Selector's Cycle input. Now set the Target Time to suit the animation style you like, 0.1 or 0.2 Seconds looks nice.

Thanks for the help Pookachoo.
Yeah, I'm using the selector technique. left activates a left animation sequencer, right activates a right one, and X does a jump animation. Each has about 4 frames of sticker panel ovelayed.

I use a sequencer that goes into a selector. This way I can run my animations at 15 frames per second as opposed to the 10 frames per second that a.1 second timer will get you. I don't know if this is necessary for what you're doing, but a higher framerate might looks a little better sonetimes. The problem with the selector loop function is that it turns of for 1 frame when it resets...which seems pretty silly to me, not sure Why they made it like that.

And also, if you want to run at 15 fps with no sequencer, you can just use a not gate plugged into itself. Not sure why I never used that method exactly but it ought to work fine.

I've seen this flicker happen when two different sticker panels are activated at the same time while occupying the same place in the same layer. The game gets confused and doesn't know which one to display. If the panels need to be lit at the same time, putting them in different layers will get rid of the flicker.2014-06-09 03:32:00
